Shueisha has announced that mangaka Nobuhiro Watsuki (born Nobuhiko Nishiwaki) is charged for violating the Child Prostitution and Pornography Law and is currently sending the papers pertaining to the case to the Public Prosecutors Office. The previously announced Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Hokkaido-hen will enter a hiatus as a result. The violation hurts the publisher badly and the mangaka, admitting the charge of having multiple DVDs of displaying nudes of early teens, deeply regrets it. Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Hokkaido-hen is a new series of Rurouni Kenshin that also received anime adaptations throughout the '90s. The new series has began its serialization in Jump SQ magazine with Kaoru Kurosaki this September. Source: Jiji.com, Yahoo! Japan News via Otakomu |

I like how this news decides to focus on the manga going on hiatus rather than the fact that the mangaka just got caught with child pornography. Good priorities there lmao |

Good thing I never got into Rurouni Kenshin, I'd probably feel like shit now if I did. I wonder if this'll start a similar chain reaction of allegations like in Hollywood, and more mangakas and other industry workers get busted after Watsuki? |

sigh i havent even started much on the show yet and then this news came, couldnt it just be some random hentai author doing the crime ?! |

Note that the author confessed it, though there was a detail that nobody really wanted to see aside from the confession. I'm not someone that can talk a lot, because I only know Kenshin based on the conversations etc, so I really never got into it yet. This news doesn't stop me from checking the series out still (since there was a drastic overreaction over the news). Still can understand somewhat the feeling since if I were them then yeah, I would probably feel sad about it. |

Surprised it's not cancelled outright to be honest. You'd think they want to be as far away from the guy as possible right now but maybe I'm going by western standards with that thought. He's admitted to the charges as well, not like it's an allegation such as those going around in Hollywood. On his crime though (since it hasn't been as detailed here as elsewhere) it is disgusting, manga / drawings of fictional young girls / boys is one thing you could debate but this? Nope, he should take the full force of the law and be punished for it. Just because something may have been legal at one point does not mean it is now. At least he has no excuses for it. Will it stop me from reading his works at some point? No, Rurouni Kenshin looks fab and I do have the live action trilogy somewhere in my house. I can still enjoy one of Rolf Harris' animal shows he used to do, I could still listen to a Michael Jackson song and enjoy it and this is no different. I think you can separate the artist from the person absolutely unless there is a link between the crime and their works being influenced or affected by it which does not seem to be the case here. |

I do understand the feeling since I've heard nothing but praise for Ruronin Kenshin from people that I know of, so this news is rather shocking for a lot of people. It's really that known in here as well, somewhat I believe. I didn't even knew about the series much aside from the praise it got honestly. Never really got into it but will do sometime in the future. |

I need to look for more context of the law itself but I remembered few links about it which they enforced that rule on that year. You can kind of get why I said "There's also the fact when he got them" because he probably got them before the law was enforced. |

The same kind of situation (slightly different) occurred with Shimabukuro, the Toriko mangaka, he had to cancel the series he was working on. And after a couple of years of channeling his inner Togashi, he started writing Toriko. (he had some manga called ring which was unsuccessful, and cancelled, but we dont talk about that. Hopefully, Nobuhiro Watsuki doesn't have to do the same thing. |

As disgusted and ashamed as I am of Nobuhiro Watsuki [repulsed and so sad, I've always said that he was one of my favorites. now... not at all. never again], but I won't be throwing out my kenshin media, or deleting my kenshin fanfiction. [something that a LOT of people seem to be doing on tumblr. I had to unfollow like five people. it made me too sad and frustrated to see them talk about throwing all of it out.] Unless he comes right out and says that he's been a pedo for his entire life and that he was really thinking of a lot of underaged girls when he was drawing RK [doubt it], I see no reason to tarnish the series or throw it away. |

OH girl, you're so pure and I like it. But this is reality, Chinese Prostitution is well established, babies and young girls are being kidnapped, it was so apparent that it was just natural for people in China like it's just a daily occurrence, same for India which more horrifying since they are more chaotic than China, both countries have bigger population. Now including Philippines and Thailand which is known for cheap prostitution and these leads to girls being kidnapped, scammed and being used to black market. These detestable scheme was so apparent that it's not questionable if they were the source of child pornography. There are more slaves in this era than before. If no one buys these pornography, then the business will fall, at least in Japan only. Though I doubt that it will happen considering that Japan itself has the biggest porn industry in asia with their disturbing hentai materials, excluding the prostitution of Japanese High Schools which they do by their own choice with different circumstance. |
