THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Saw it on Anime Prime/Strike today.

The MC is pretty generic and not impressive but he gets himself caught into another world. I think the highlight of the show/episode is the music so far. Very noticeable soundtrack.

The place Celestia came from is mysterious so I hope they explore more that later. They didn't waste much time introducing Gunpuku no Himegimi into this show either. Plenty of action so far. Not all the main characters were introduced yet and we didn't see much of the OP song clips. However, I think the show itself establishes its premise already. Episode ends with the quote 'only takes 1 second for the world to change'.

This guy has a anime waifu as his phone wallpaper? He checks fanart on pixiv everyday? He watches anime on a tablet? THIS GUY IS ME IN REAL LIFE!

Wow! This was my most anticipated anime this season! And it met my expectations so far! It's a bright spot for me since a lot of the non-sequel spring titles has been disappointments so far. Everyone seems to be ignoring Re:CREATORS, but I hope this gets more attention since it will not be on a Saturday competing with AoT and BnH!

Here is a picture that Hiroe drew of both Revy and Celestia. This is confirmed to be 22 episodes, so this should not be rushed.

The premise seems like something from Fate with heroes from another world/time (this time, from anime) are summoned to the modern world in a sort-of battle royale. And since I'm a big Fate fanboy, I'm already on board with it.

Since this is an Aniplex title, there is a lot of clones from other Aniplex properties. The magical girl looks like Madoka. And the main villain looks like Nobu from Fate/Grand Order except with swords instead of rifles.

Now there are a couple of people who thinks this will be generic, but I have a LOT of faith in Hiroe. Whether or not you like BLACK LAGOON, you can't deny that it was entertaining with good character development. This will not be like Aldnoah because Hiroe will not drop after 3 episodes like Urobuchi did.

This show will appeal to a lot of people, but it will probably go somewhat unnoticed because it's on Amazon. Amazon Strike is the bane of my existence. I have a Prime account and used to be able to watch all the exclusive anime offered by Amazon, but after Strike came out you now need both. I not only have to pay $10/month for Prime but an extra $5 for anime now? Fuck off! In all honesty, when I look at shows getting licensed I pray to God that either Crunchyroll or Funimation picks them up. They have the best compression and video players, and you don't need to pay extra for a service you're already paying for!!!

@Tokoya Yup!

Once people get hooked on this first episode, I don't think we need to worry about publicity. I see that episode 1 has just been uploaded to a bunch of illegal sources.

So, we should see the discussions go.

I'm tired of the MC always being a wuss at the start. He doesn't have to be badass, it's just tiring to see another MC being a pansy and crying for his life for a portion of the episode. He'll stop crying by next episode probably because that's how it goes. The show seems alright so far though, lets see where things go.

I'm already liking Himegimi xD she's cute in a way. I have to agree that the soundtrack was really amazing, one of the best of the season thus far. The premise is pretty similar to the Fate series, so I'm hoping the director will make it shine.

I enjoyed this a lot. I was surprised at the animation detail at times. I also like their execution of the premise so far, it's been fairly believable and interesting. The humor is also pretty good. Overall I have to say I'm pretty excited about this anime, which is a bit unexpected because I found the PVs very confusing.

The anime really reminds me of The Devil is a Part Timer, I hope it will be just as good if not better.

One of my biggest concerns is that they may focus on fights between the characters and create a fast-paced show with little time for exposition. There are so many interesting topics or situations they could address, so I really hope they ease off on the gas so the story and characters can become fleshed out and interesting. :)

The badass music and ED song? aside, this was really good

We got an alright MC who as of right now doesn't seem like an idiot or is over the top and is rather acting kinda like someone IRL about and all 3 of the girls so far all have something likable about them (the post scene was funny lol and the short white haired girl is something else xD) - Really nice humor between them via their dialogue

The action scenes were pretty good and I was VERY impressed with the Gilgamesh girl and the red haired girl...And did I mention how great the music is for this?

They didn't really explore what's going on but this is a 2 cour series so we have plenty of time....But as of right now, I'm really liking the concept of this series and I don't think I've seen a series yet where actual fictional characters come to the real world....Its usually either like SAO or LH

Overall, really nice start and I hope that the visuals continue to be good

Sure cause everyone wouldn't freak out if something like that happened (though i would be a bit happy if my waifu materialized lol). I think he's pretty normal, he seems tense about the situation, but he's not over the top. As you pointed, gotta watch more to judge...

Pretty good first episode. The OST is so good. MC is a bit of a wimp. He got transported into an anime he was watching and got caught in the middle of a fight. Then he and Celestia came back. The place she came from was nice. I wonder if we're going to see more of it. Meteora is a fun character. The action scenes were cool. Looking forward to see more.

Pretty fun start. Nice animation and action and the OST's pretty great too. My only hope is that the ending/2nd half isn't as disappointing as Aldnoah.Zero's

Himegimi's the most interesting character so far, though I do like the other two as well. So, this is somewhat like a reverse-isekai or something? A bit odd, but I like it. Also, "land of the gods" or whatever, I take it that pretty much anyone can be considered a god? I mean, if all it takes is for them to create a character, I mean. I guess it's, like, fiction meets reality

Anyway, this has my full interest so far. Hope it doesn't disappoint

This episode was pretty fucking awesome, actually this is like so far (if my opinion changes for later on stuff) my favorite premiere episode for today and probably of the season. From the OST towards the anime choreography, the animation and well while the artstyle isn't amazing, it actually still looks good in the sense.

We basically get the introduction of things although there are some mysteries towards said conflicts of the characters, example the gray-haired girl is rather interesting to see... I'm curious about her.

As for the MC I don't think he's much of a wuss. Thinking realistically, he REALLY can't do much in the situation he has gone through or is pretty much riled up towards. Basically reminds me of the MC of Black Lagoon at the beginning as well and as expected this is the same author that wrote this series... so I don't have much to say on that. I will give some credit I think adding him as a focus since he would know about these series and the characters themselves (since they are based out of LNs and were adapted into anime format as well).

My only issue would be them not really explaining how the other two could be able to go to the real world, because it made sense for Selestia, but not for those two. Unless it can be explained later on but that's pretty much the only grip with this.

I find it funny though that Selestia thought that the car had weapons and used the freaking cleansing thing as it. Lol she doesn't know how real cars are like, it was hilarious.

I am not going to lie, this episode was better than I expected. Like some people have already said before, the music was amazing and the windshield wiper scene was so unexpected.

In terms of characters, for me, the main character is really relatable. Being a fanboy, I think they can do a lot with him since he also wants to be a content creator or creator in this case. I have a feeling I'll start to like Celestia and Meteora. As for Himegimi, keep doing what you're doing and remember to keep bringing the epic music with you.

The animation surprised me with its detail in certain scenes (when the mecha thing came up and when they were flying around.)

Finally, I am getting a very "The Devil is a Part-timer" vibe from this and honestly, I hope it stays. Overall, I liked this episode.

Not bad, Not bad. I feel like the dynamic between the 3 won't work that well unless the main develops some sort of opinion about the situation, but he doesn't seem like the type of person that would.

It reminded me a bit of The Devil is a Part-Timer, but not as funny...

I'll continue to watch, until it either screws up or impresses me, I suppose.

That was a pretty neat first episode in my opinion, I liked it. The fact that it's going to be 22 episodes adds more to the potential. Let's see if Ei Aoki and the project in general can turn this into something decent.

Music is fantastic, but not surprised there, since Sawano Hiroyuki is doing it. Already in love with the OP. Tielle and Gemie is a great combo <3.

Spectacular first episode! The soundtrack was great and the battle scenes were fantastic. It's only the first episode, but I already like the characters so far (except for MC xP). Maybe the chemistry among these three protagonists will keep improving in latter episodes.

Highlight of the episode for me was the windshield wiper scenario. xD And whenever I hear Meteora speak I keep getting reminded of Rem. <3 Funny to see her nonchalantly explaining while eating potato chips, lol.

The last time I saw the type of thread at least MAL wise when it comes to series that started out promising but then everyone went on different thoughts and such would be Kabaneri (which can be considered as a trainwreck but I thought it was fine. Not really familiar with Aldnoah.Zero's forums tho)

Man, I loved the premise of Re:Creators so much!

The first thing I liked about it was the animation: the illumination, the angles, and the shots (and how real the screen of computers look!) Then, I loved the representation of media, how we are constantly bombarded with commercials and spectaculars of manga, anime, movies, and all that jazz everywhere, everyday; and how we interact with them, especially on social media (fanbase being the main focus). The scene with the glasses was a little bit too much, thou; I consider it unnecessary ding that kind of statement to reinforce the focalization.

I really love how metanarrative this was. (Yes, I love everything meta.) I mean, pay attention to how the score is used. We, as spectators came to learn the importance of insert songs, how they represent the whole essence of an anime and of a character. And then we have our MC, Sota, being witness of a crucial moment in this anime his watching, with the most important song being played.

On a side note, the plot were the anime within the anime turns out to be a magical set up, with a female protagonist, /and/ mechas got me drooling the entire time. I'm such a nerd.

the ost is fuckin' bomb. like i said to a friend the animation wasn't consistent but when it was good it was great - so many screenshotable moments!

i'm glad there wasn't a fuckload of fanservice like i was expecting. there was some there for those who like it, but it wasn't overboard so people who hate it won't have a reason to complain either.

i hope mc gets some personality soon. i doubt it'll happen though, he seems like the typical cookie-cutter harem mc but hell i can hope.

i just hope this doesn't become a shitfest... this kind of premise, can either be really great or if handled badly, really terrible. which would be a shame because i've been waiting for a cool, Literal genre mash up like this forever T_T and i adore the whole fictional characters coming to life thing! so i'm getting two for the price of one...

as an aside that monk(? idk what to call her lol i'm having a brainfart moment) girl is cute as hell, lol.

EDIT: aforementioned friend brought up a good point - what is the purpose of them finding their creators??? she thinks it'll be to go kick their ass, which i'm inclined to agree... especially with that opening, it seems like anime might attempt to be very meta.

I know it is a bit early on, but can someone explain to me what happened in the first, say, 5 minutes? I'm assuming a lot of it was undertone, and setting of the tone, but it focused a lot on the girl committing suicide. Is that an "inception" style foreshadowing of the existential crisis the anime characters are going to face? As if nothing they knew is real and they cannot handle it? Or am I making baseless assumptions and it was just thrown in there for impact?

Great show, but Anime Strike is just not worth the price of admission. If you aren't already a Prime subscriber it's basically $16 a month to get access. That's HBO Now territory without the award winning catalog to back it up. Even paying for Crunchyroll and Funimation separately is a better deal at $13 a month, but if you're willing to use VRV you can even cut that price down to $10 per month and get a bunch of extra content as well. Amazon just isn't being price competitive here.

Even the Prime subscribers I talk to that are Anime fans feel like they're getting ripped off. They're already paying subscribers and now they're being up-charged for access to the content that would've interested them. Amazon just isn't providing any incentives here beyond the content, which is weak.

Anime Strike should be available as a stand-alone subscription, with a discount for Prime subscribers. That at least'd be something, and it'd make a lot more people willing to pay.

Sorry Amazon, but I'm gonna find my Anime elsewhere.

PS: For those wanting to stay legal and watch this show, I'd recommend waiting until the end of this season and then starting your Anime Strike 7-day trial then. Binge the show in a week and cancel.

I think it implies the consequences of this "war with the creators" that's going to happen. Maybe killing the character somehow affects the creator, possibly leading the creator to commit suicide or something. There have been similar premises in Anime before, like Mai-hime, Yumekui Merry, and such. Though I like the twist this show is putting on it.

Agreed. He took things rather well considering he was dragged into a life threatening battle out of nowhere, interrogated at sword edge, and dragged halfway across the city in a chase. I like how he wasn't straight up paralyzed with fear and managed to explain things to the girl, admittedly a bit panicky but reasonably so.

I am REALLY, Really liking it. The concept of fictional characters slipping into the real world has always been something i thought of. However, The main concern here is the fast pace of the story and focus on action. I understand that this is the premiere and it's just setting things up, And it did so perfectly honestly. But this subject needs a heavy and a thought provoking story with a decent lore, Not just some random jumping between worlds here and there like the other slipping into a fantasy world animes. I have really high hopes and expectations for this, Which very few media that i check out accomplish, But i also have story concerns. We'll see in the coming episodes.

EDIT: Also the production design, The soundtrack and the animation all were very well done, It managed to capture the classy vibe of the poster that i thought it wouldn't capture. As i said, So far things are great. We shall see if it remains that way.

Somehow Gunkufu No Himegimi is connected to the girl who committed suicide in the beginning of the episode. She says specifically "Yes...my master liked this world, too."

A solid beginning and top notch soundtrack for what IMHO will be the anime of the season, competing with SnK's second season.

I think I was let down by this episode because just from the PV 3 trailer I was able to predict the plot arc of the entirety of the first episode.

Fun first episode, laughed when the MC started slapping the shit out of his iPad like a retard. Hat twin tails battle loli is the best thing so far. Love her design.

I don't know how this anime original is going to turn out. This can be a complete train wreck or a surprise hit. So far, nothing in the first episode made me go WOW, but I did enjoy it. I'm cautiously optimistic about this one; mostly due to Rei Hiroe being behind the writing. Then again, the guy who directed Aldnoa Zero is in charge....

Looking forward to the next episode.

The premise looks interesting, but I don't like this as a first episode. There is way too much action in this episode and felt it needed more quiet moments. The only ones we got was a few minutes returning to the real world and the post credits scene. I do wonder the implications, if any fictional being came to life you probably would distance yourself from it believing it to be fake. If fictional beings became as sapient as human beings I would not be surprised if they wanted to murder their creators because being born from a light novel would suck ass. Every shitty thing that happened to them in their stories came from a capricious author.

I legit picked this show up for two reasons: 1) Rei Hiroe, the creator of Black Lagoon being the writer 2) Hiroyuki Sawano being the music composer. This first episode was something I wasn't expecting even with your generic MC. I like it already and I pray it goes strongly and also hope it doesn't go to shit like A.Z did.

Man, this came out of nowhere! Didn't expect to enjoy this at all but that was pretty darn entertaining. Animation solid. OST f***ing amazing so far with Sawano at the helm. The action scenes look like they're going to be incredible.

On the surface the MC seems bland/generic. But honestly, I find him likable and appropriate for someone that just got himself caught up in a seemingly impossible and absurd situation. His reactions felt realistic. All the female characters so far are interesting.

This might either be the dark horse of the season or turn into a dumpster fire real quick. Either way, so far one of my favorite non-sequels this season.

Anime was the catalyst of my life's downward spiral.

Not a bad start to be honest.
Instead of the MC becoming the protagonist in another world, the other worlds (several of them) come to him instead. Get the feeling that one of the character's stories was probably written by that girl at the beginning (whom I suspect committed suicide by jumping in front of a train), and won't be able to find her "creator".

The battle scenes were great and as absurd as this premise is, it's interesting to have a reverse world travelling story for once.
