Ah more Thunderbolt and its classic music.

This was thrilling for the second season's first episode. "Cornelius do you have a tissue"?

Looks like the War of Independence is still ongoing. I also feel like the animation quality for this slightly improved. Quite a catchy song played throughout the episode as well. Overall, I think it was a nice start for the second season. That Bianca girl also seems kinda interesting.

Woooo we're back

I liked the brief dog fights. Daryl always playing best music. Beams 1 shot everything, sucks but whatever. And the atlas in action! I'm really not a fan of the atlas design but damn it's railgun is sooooo cool.
Did the animation seem a little worse than in December sky? There were a lot of still frames as well as condensed explosions that were somewhat lackluster and such. Kind of sucks.

Overall it was cool
I give it a 6/10!

Pretty good re-start for something I wasn't excited to see again (after the first salve of shiny but empty episodes). Too bad it will again be a mini-conflict revolving around some Zeon remnants.
The same graphism, let's hope they left the shock seeking behind them. There were more still pictures (but as long as they're well drawn). Still a big focus on the machinery but it doesn't say much about the next episodes since a reentry needed some attention grabber.
The music is still good. And still used both as effectively and awkwardly as before.

0080? The psychommu discovery, like that, is very disappointing with how simplistic it is, new (anachronistic) models keep coming right qfter the Federation dumped money in producing their GMs and Pegasus. A delay of a few months/a year would look less suspect.

3/5 Zaku / GM / A Baoa Qu were a winning trinity for the first minutes.

@Stark700 In 0080, the Zeon War is done. What came after were skirmishes with remnants (in space or on Earth) while the biggest stack of survivors went hiding on a colonized asteroid in the belt (Char Aznable included).

@CodeBlazeFate Don't know why they left the pay-per-view system behind but you have two weeks to watch this fifth ONA: https://youtu.be/Dl7GJBFpTW8https://youtu.be/Dl7GJBFpTW8
@CodeBlazeFate That's what I wrote and thebreason why I warned you to watch it while you still could. ^^"

edit: 8.6 after a re'start episode?! when some shows long past and finished hardly get the 7-8 points they deserved...

edit @forexjammer Thank you.

Luckily, it's available on YouTube for free @Rei366

This was pretty cool. Nice to see Daryl and Lorenz back, seeing a Zeong is cool, Bianca's cute and cool, the action is as kickass as ever, and the Atlas Gundam is one of the sweetest pieces of machinery ever put into badass combat.

soo since Im not familiar with the universe - as far as I understand the war is won by the federation and now the "rebels" who cant accept it try to get revenge on them, that is why Zeon forces are on earth?

(Why is it called thunderbolt when they arent in the thunderbolt region anymore XD )

Yes, you are correct. However, note that during the war, Zeon forces invaded earth, so some of the Zeon forces on earth are remnants who have been there for some time, while Daryl and his gang just recently came from space.

I really enjoyed this episode with its great action and graphics. Glad to see Io back in a kickass Gundam. Was also glad to see Daryl get the respect he deserves for his sacrifice.

I am also curious about the bald headed cult chanting, and their weird tattoo. I wonder what conspiracy they are making.

The Gundam franchise is still going strong, and unlike other franchises, Gundam is not milking itself and keeps on releasing high quality works.

Off to an explosive start. This is definitely Gundam. This is war.

If nothing else, the episode sets the mood for the season. It ought to be rather grim, even more so considering the creepy chanting during the battlefield cleaning operations (and that particular recurring symbol). The furnaces have a profound effect as well...

As an introductory episode, it is a fine one. A set of intriguing new characters is introduced with the already familiar fan favourites. Bianca looks particularly captivating, though. She ought to liven up things a bit.

The mechanical department doesn't disappoint either. I have been missing the sight of MS-s designed for surface (and underwater) operations, not to mention the scenery of Earth itself. In that respects, those Acguys were a godsend. On a related note, the overall aesthetics of Thunderbolt Mobile Suits are commendable, those Special Service Zaku IIs with gilded ornaments were sublime, not to mention the novelty of the Gundam Head GMs.

All in all, it looks promising (and the wait isn't atrociously long).

I was wondering around with my friends last night, and we saw a gunpla bar, so we decided to go inside since the JoJo themed bar was closed for the night. It was stuffed full of gunpla model kit boxes, and some voice actress I don't know was chatting people up at the bar and signing a picture for a patron. The bartender put on this episode at the bar, so I didn't have to rent it :D

Really beautiful episode. Lots of setup. Looking forward to the next one, and I'm glad it's not too far away.

I'm wondering but why isn't Thunderbolt an anime series but an ONA? I think Thunderbolt has potential to be an anime series just as Gundam F91 could've been in 1992 after releasing the theatrical film. What is Sunrise thinking? How could they do this to Gundam fans? Doesn't Sunrise have enough funds to produce another full anime series?

Top quality animation once again.

I am a little disappointed that Io got rescued so soon. I guess they just wanted to set things up for round 2 a bit faster.

What's this? An ace pilot girl? In a gundam series? ... it's about time! Such a rare thing.

I'm wondering but how come Thunderbolt is NOT AN ANIME SERIES LIKE TEKKETSU NO ORPHANS, but an ONA? If its an ONA, why is it only 4 eps per season? what are the producers thinking? what is Ko Matsuo thinking? I thought Ko Matsuo would just expand it to like 24-5 eps. No trolling btw
