Nope, genders don't matter. It's all about happiness~

Decent ending to the story although I wish it was a bit longer. Quite a fun ride :)

I'm feeling soooo empty right now, maybe this wasn't the best manga ever made, but it was still in my top 2 (kanojo ni naru hi is number 1), seeing it finish after just 17 chapters it's just sad, especially when they rushed the ending like putting so much important things in the last two chapters.

Don't get me wrong i still reeeeally liked the series overall, and i don't hate the ending either, it's just that they could have treated it better, giving the story more time and chapters to develop.

Still, loved it

Where you read the final chapter? I find the chapter 17 but in any sites was the chapter 17 from the original Kanojo ni Naru..

Honestly i wouldnt have minded if this series had 2 parts like if they did this as one end and would have had their high school life for another 50 chapters (obviously would have had to get rid of some stuff from the last chapter)

Overall im thankful i found this and thankful i took the time to write a review because thats how i rememberd this XD

@_@ So why is this 20 chapters on MAL?

The beginning was really nice, but after Rin started falling for Yuu, there were a lot of cliche shoujo moments that made me just facepalm the entire time. The ending was nice at least! I just hope Aya ends up with someone better than Shima, but it doesn't look like that will happen. 6/10

One thing I loved about this sequel was that, unlike the original, the internal conflict of *being a boy who suddenly transformed into a girl* is REALLY fleshed-out! It's a lot more evident and realistic, esp. in a society like Japan, than what happened with Nao Mamiya. And there seems to be a much more 'gender-nonconforming' aspect of Sagara coming to terms with herself and her gender. Sagara, after a while, becomes "ok with" presenting and being 'girly' every now and then, but I don't think she's "shedded" the masculine part of herself by a long shot! Honestly... I think most readers of this manga would be *perfectly fine with* Sagara just being a gender-nonconforming- or, perhaps, less-gender-conforming than most- female or "tomboy" of sorts.

The fact that there were 2 potential, great love interests for the protagonist, as opposed to just one, also made it much more interesting, though it didn't give me quite as many feels. I think the fact that they had TWO emerged females as MCs was also pretty nice :D

The story seemed to have a lot more regular, active, outside characters aside from the protagonist and his 'main love interest(s)'- unlike the first Kanojo, which seemed to revolve around the 2 childhood friends a lot more- which really helped us get a 'broader view' of just how complicated Sagara's life had become upon emerging. The first Kanojo almost seemed to "dodge" this by having Nao collapse about a month or so after originally emerging, stay in the hospital for god-knows-how-long and then do that whole cocoon thing... for 5 years straight. Honestly, how in GOD'S NAME did Miyoshi last 5 years without Nao?? That's dedication right there!

I would, kind-of, also like to see *the reverse*- a 2nd sequel to the first Kanojo where there's a reverse emergence (girl becomes boy). I dunno if it's just me, but... whenever various 'Western' or 'modernized' cultures approach transgender or "trans-like" topics in fiction, it seems that they're, more often than not, of the "male-to-female" type/trope, with far less "female-to-male." In a way, this does seem to "ignore" or "minimize" the existence and struggles of transmen and GNC, cisgender women (and, perhaps, intersex folks who identify as and/or appear female).

I don't clearly remember the details of the parent story since I completed it in 2018, but I think this one is as good, with the same flaws from the lacking depth of the characters.
The concept is still strong, with some of the obvious issues that could happen of a male turning into a female and the related relationships, with decent drama.

Unfortunately, the origin of his mother's hate is a little dumb in how irrational it is.
The drastic change from a loving solitary mother become a spiteful jealous one towards the fauning of strangers towards her son as a cute looking girl could have felt more realistic if her hate was deeper with more to it.
The delinquents always attempting to bully Sagara were okay...
Shima turning to a potential love interest for Kurokawa is unnecessary and feels forced for how ungenuine and poorly built it is.
The plots could have been better, with some characters being used more efficiently.

The worst letdown was Kurokawa.
Her love for Sagara, so easily quitting and never fixing her fake personality or family issues of impersonating his dead older sister is a waste. Disappointing. 5/10.

Is there a reason why MAL says that the chapter count is 20, but I found out that 17 is the last chapter? Did I miss certain chapters?
