Rose looked beautiful in that dress. I'm on her side. The prince betrayed her and everyone else. He also does bad dealings with the church by making fake elixirs. He deserves to die. I hope she killed him next episode. Sorey trying to stop her was pathetic.

"You shouldn't kill, no matter what!" says the guy that kills on a regular basis. Sorey as the Sheppard eliminates evil in the form of malevolence by stabbing and slashing monsters with a sword, effectively killing them (while only sometimes the host survives). How is that any different than Rose and her group assassinating powerful evildoers the law can't touch by stabbing and slashing, while sparing said evildoer's followers that were simply hired to do a job. I'm with Dezel's on this one...some people don't deserve to live. They forfeit their rights to live the moment they themselves take a life--at least the Rose's group acknowledge they'll likely go to hell if there is one. His idealistic thinking will be his undoing at this rate.

The moment Sorey spares a rampaging Hellion (aside from the human host) that massacred a city's worth of people, I'll consider listening to his BS. The only way to "purify" a Hellion, is killing the Hellion. #HellionLivesMatter

Shit, even Batman chooses not to save some villains, letting them die from time to time.

Thing is that Sorey doesn't kill hellions, but purifies them. The knights in the war that Sorey purified are also all alive. That hobgobin that was defeated last season was due to Zaveid killing it rather than purifying it. The anime left this out, but in the game, when Zaveid kills that same hobgobling hellion, it reverts to a now dead corpse, which then Sorey buries.

Are you treating malevolence as a form of life? It's like a virus. It's like the anime's physical/ethereal embodiment of "sin". Sorey isn't "killing" anyone and anything. His Ritual Sword, as the game text says, is "dull-edged and unlikely to mortally wound anything." In light of Lailah's powers, it's made to cut down malevolence and keep a host's body intact.

Still, Sorey is human, and having human-born hellions killing of everyone he holds dear would most likely plunge him into malevolence. However, Alisha made it clear to Rose to not act on revenge if she dies. Seeing that she and Sorey hold those same views, I'm holding the belief that Sorey wouldn't go berserk if Alisha, Mikleo, and etc were to get killed by Heldalf, Symmone, Lunarre, and etc. Furthermore, he takes the malevolence of human-born hellions into his heart, so in a way, he is experiencing all the sins of an individual and yet still keeps heart for his ideals.

You make Sorey out to be a hypocrite, but he hasn't done anything of severely compromising his ideals as of yet. Should he become that, then he is betraying his role of oath as Shepard, his symbol as a light of hope for humanity, and everyone's expectations of his conduct and character.

I can't buy into this ideological split because Sorey doesn't have any true ideology that goes one way or the other.

From what has been shown from the anime the only thing we know about his thoughts on being a shepherd is he wants humans and seraphs to live together and he wants to purify hellions/malevolence.

That's it.

That's all his goals and thought process amounts to. To make matters worse, he still doesn't quite know what it means to "purify" humans and hellions infected with malevolence. He doesn't fully understand what malevolence is in the first place. It's been 2 seasons and Sorey is still just as bland and one note as ever.

If this was between Alisha and Rose, then it would have so much more of an impact. Honestly, their interactions and clashes were some of the best parts of season 1. Rose is a character with a strong sense of how the world works and how she must move in it. She's also aware of the things she can do to change it piece by piece. For there to be a believable clash of idealism, there needs to be more than one strong ideal present.

Alisha has that. Sorey doesn't. His involvement just comes off as pious and irrelevant.

If we're going to go with game logic, Rose is much stronger than Sorey.

Sorey was walking like a slow turtle while carrying Rose. Rose was running and could even jump while carrying Sorey. Rose runs faster than Sorey.

I could add more to this list, but it would be spoilers.

From a standpoint of someone who never played the game, I think these episode is pretty good. I know Sorey is annoying (I feel that too), but I understand his point of view though. He doesn't want to spread more malevolent, or let Rose become malevolent herself [and he just believes that no one deserves to die].

However, I prefer Rose ideals, and kinda wish he killed the prince though (I hope he did die). I think that's easier and faster to drastically lessen the amount of malevolent, without turning malevolent herself quickly (because her sense of justice is really pure). With little malevolent remains, following Sorey/Alisha's way of ideal will probably work.

Also, wouldn't Rose become more malevolent if she didn't manage to kill him, with all the hate and anger? Hmmm...

Shall see.

PS: I'm liking these pacing though. I'm fine with slow as long as it doesn't feel draggy [to me] and doesn't rush in the later episodes, with a proper conclusion.

Sigh even with reversereality's nice explanation, some people doesn't get the simple fact that If Sorey starts killing because of vengeance and stuff, then he will become the same thing he fights against. It will corrupt him or Rose.

Sorey and Rose, while having similar opinions are like Light and Darkness in their methods. One won't be able to exist without the other.

Seriously think about how or why Hellions are formed for a few seconds and what Lailah said before, you will understand the reasoning behind Sorey's actions.

Quoting Batman from Under The Red Hood Movie since it somewhat fits.

Batman: You don't understand. I don't think you'd ever understood.

Jason Todd: What? What, your moral code just won't allow for that? It's too hard to cross that line?

Batman: No. God Almighty, no. It'd be too damned easy. All I've ever wanted to do is kill him. A day doesn't go by I don't think about subjecting him to every horrendous torture he's dealt out to others, and then end him.

Joker: Awwww, so you DO think about me.

Batman: But if I do that, if I allow myself to go down into that place, I'll never come back.

And why the fck is the MC trying to stop Rose from killing anyway?? She already killed A LOT so what the point? Jesus.

Of course, for the plot.

But to stay true to Mayvin's words, Sorey must stay true to himself at the expense of Rose being herself. Mayvin's words are still lived in Sorey, but the consequence is that "staying true to yourself" proves to be difficult since it can get in the way of others "staying true to themselves." It's a shame that Rose can't be Rose when Sorey is Sorey.

Wise words, but albeit does nothing. Look what Velvet and Artorius got themselves into for doing that. Their ideals and views will clash, and the stronger one will induce a change in the other or perhaps an "agree to disagree" moment.

If Rose was in Sorey's shoes in the last episode of the first season, she would have killed Landon in a heartbeat for hurting Alisha. Sorey, while he pondered the thought, didn't let his emotions get to him.

I guess I just don't like how Rose gets a free pass away from malevolence in the games when she is as flawed as any human in the anime.

That is True, but i consider Mayvin Word more than just saying "stay true to himself",he is sugesting to Sorrey the option "to kill" (when it cannot be purified) and that he should think about it but still stay "true to himself", so that he doesn't take the path of the previous Shepherd, which is kill everything instead of purify them.

there is people like "Bartlow" or the "prince" that are not Malovelent (therefor cannot be purified) but creat Malovelence by doing what they do (and they are also staying true to themselve).

Rose doesn't really get a free pass from malovelence, she kill /assasinate only the target without other sacrifice, wihout emotion ( she doesn't hate the target, she is not enoying killing her target) and believe/prove that target need to die and that it has to be done ( every time they kill, they alway ask question to the target, if it is show that the target is innocent they will let it alive (like what hapened to Alisha)).

Her character use the same design as those "power hungry" people, they can creat malovelence but aren't malovelent themselve.

Do people turn into hellions after just one kill? I mean, she's an assassin for crying out loud. The only problem here would be the reason or intent she has while killing him. So Sorey should not as much stop her from killing the scumbag, but let her kill him for the right reason, instead of just enacting revenge.

Anyway... my answer to the question about whether or not you should kill someone:

People who are outside (or can escape) the reach of justice deserves death, no matter their crime. Basically, a murderer doesn't deserve to die if he/she gets a fair trial, no matter how horrible that person is. A murderer who can corrupt the justice system and gets away deserves to die.

If justice cannot reach a corrupt prince, then that prince deserves death.

If the justice system itself is corrupted, then you should just go ahead and kill those criminals.

Malevolence is what turns people into Hellions. Each person has malevolence swirling around their heart. Malevolence seeps into your heart when you are very emotionally vulnerable. If you believe that you kill for the greater good, then you probably won't be too disturbed. However, if you are mentally unprepared for such an act, you might go through a variety of emotions. During that period, Malevolence may seep in and take over your body, turning you into a Hellion.

Rose generally kills for the greater good and she detaches her feelings from it. Basically, she's safe. However, in this case, emotions have everything to do with this killing. She's currently vulnerable.

It's a little like the final episode of the first season. Sorey was vulnerable when he learned that the general tried to kill Alisha. Had he not restrained his actions and killed the general, he might have regretted (he would have) it afterward. That regret might just be the opening for Malevolence to seep in and create 1 powerful hellion and 3 dragons.

Hmm so Rose has been hunting for a prince all this time eh
lol wow Rose does look like a princess when she dresses like a girl though

So Brad commanded a lot of respect from his men then eh
hmm so thats why Rose is hunting for the prince he killed not just Brad but also all of Rose's friends as well

While the church certainly had it coming
It's surprising how much Rose actually dislikes them
but then again the church here are nothing more than crooks and murderers wearing robes.

Rose's current mood is focused on revenge so no matter Sorey says to her it won't work.
Well Sorey and the others only see one aspect of Rose's personality though
The other side of her is a righteous assassin that kills those that have sinned

Well because of Rose's personality in that she treats everyone with respect its no wonder that the farmers and shopkeepers like her

Lol Mikileo finding out that he's joined with Edna
Lol Edna not trusting Mikileo enough with Dezel
Lol they sure weren't paying much attention to Dezel

Sergei is stuck in the middle eh
The military that he's part off and the church that he opposes is at odds with each other.
Prince Konan will have it coming i think

When you put it that way Rose is amazing
To both lead the sparrowfeathers to success and at the same time be a capable assassin that kills those that deserve it.

Prince Konan is your typical rich brat eh
one that uses them to achieve their own ends before discarding them like scrap
I can understand why Rose wants revenge that badly and why Dezel who knew both Rose and Brad is willing to help them as well.

Though i think after knowing the truth Sorey would want to stop Rose
hmm a pretty unique looking castle there
hmm so the bones have their own code of honor eh

Hmm so the prince is also a drug smuggler in addition to a ahole eh
selling fake elixir is just so low
No surprise that the church will be mixed up in this
This guy that killed so many deserves to die painfully

Hmm to think that Rose's strike did not kill the guy
And to think that Sorey also arrived there as well
But one thing thats for sure is that Rose's skills in combat are amazing

Hmm its a complicated thing really
On the one hand that prince really deserves to die for what he did to Rose's adapted father and her friends. On the other hand i can understand Sorey's reluctance to allow killing of any kind because it causes malevolence

Overall I thought that this episode was a good one
The revelation that Rose was an assassin which is something that we know about was the main plot here and it was nice to see Sorey and co's reaction to it. This episode will no doubt have plenty of discussion given Rose's actions but i for one support her decision as that guy really deserved it. The backstory for Rose i felt was actually pretty well done and you can see the bond that Rose had with Brad and his friends as well. The combat scenes in this episode was pretty well done and Rose is a very capable fighter with her daggers which i would know as i seen the first season as well.

I suspect that she isn't saying that claim for the sake of adhering to a moral/ethical principle, but because she can't come into terms of Eizen being euthanized. Given that Sorey was the glimmer of hope to turn her brother back, then Edna claiming that "nobody should be killed" has weight.

If she agreed with the notion "some people deserve death," then there would be no reason for her to hang around Sorey in the first place, and she wouldn't have stopped Zaveid. I don't think what she said was unexpected.

The answer is right in this post...........seriously people stop taking everything at face value. The same people will probably bitch at Sorey if he doesn't stop Rose and she gets turned into a Hellion.

Or Sorey successfully interrupts the assassination.

How to put it...

I guess they are somewhat not following the game by the letter. When ToZ came out, it was just "one game". I'm currently playing Tales of Berseria and I can tell that they've made changes to accommodate a new reality introduced by that game.

They made a big deal out of the fact that Malevolence swirls around your heart and that it seeps at its openings. This anime dwells a lot around the meaning of Malevolence and what should be done about it.

Overall, it is not too bad this episode, is a bit boring the first part because of the many dialogues, but the second part when Rose unleashes its violence, the episode, "falls down" that is a pleasure. Really well done fighting, talking about animations and choreography. Who knows what will happen after the revenge of Rose, you definitely will close the chapter that sees her as the protagonist, or meet again soon with Sorey, in his battle as a redeemer? I am very curious.

Beautiful fight in this episode, Rose is so determined. I don't know what to think, I know Sorey is right, but this guy is such a bastard :/.
Great cliffhanger!

I dunno how to feel towards Sorey. I kinda like good-hearted and kind characters and I like him for being a cute sunshine as well, but he seems to be "too good" in those situations and that makes him quite uninteresting and a little bit bland too. Damn Sorey, don't come with this holier than thou-attitude and let Rose do her job. XD That guy is awful, really, so let her do her job.
