I agree completely. Even though the ending is so tragic, he still managed to make it kind of happy. To me that's an accomplishment.

Agreed. I also think this is one of Tomino's finest works. It needs to be released in the States. Like, right now.

The ending is the most tragic and devastating ever, but it's also the most epic, unforgettable and bittersweetly beautiful anyone has ever come up with. Be Invoked truly makes up for the TV series' faults. Not to mention its influence on NGE, one of the best known and acclaimed anime ever.

In a way, I think Be Invoked is Tomino's greatest creation. Then again I haven't seen that much of his works yet...

I haven't met anyone who likes Tomino's work who says that this is a bad ending. On the contrary it comes well recommended by Tomino fanatics.

I found the ending very spiritual. It also concluded the film and series extremely well. This is probably Tomino's greatest achievement.

It was a depressing as fuck movie, but the actual ending felt pretty optmistic. Like yeah everyone fucking died, gruesomely at all. But it makes a case that even people greatly divided by a culture gap and prejudice really can find understanding with each other when that stupid conflict is put aside and that all these people can get along now as well as be with their loved ones.

They failed in their lives and destroyed one another, but I kind of register it as others wont make that mistake in the recreated world and that the viewer themselves shouldnt fall into the same trap they did.

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

it's definitely a depressing and tragical ending, but also positive.
The last 10 minutes of the movie were filled with good emotions, bit also in a bittersweet atmosphere.
