Jakob listened to what Byaku's excuse was, if it was intended to make Jakob forgive the boy it did the opposite, 451 people had died at this person's hands. It briefly crossed his mind that the assassin that killed him mentor could be this boy, however, he quickly dismissed the thought as the chances were very low. The ex-knight seemed not to know that Jakob was not just protecting Kiyomi or fighting for the fact that she had been violated, it was not pride but Jakob's personal code of honour to hunt down contracted killers and murderers to make them grovel at his feet, make them feel what their victims felt. He would not kill the killer, he would punish them. It was not pride, it was honour, but he did not care what the ex-knight said, his words were worthless and his opinion even more so. Whether he thought Jakob was fighting for honour or pride, it was irrelevant.

Another figure entered the cafe, they looked quite strange to Jakob, his 'solar' didn't seem to act normally. Then the figure began writing in the air, Jakob was still able to see it with his sixth sense but it was extremely blurry and hard to make our as the vibrations bounded off it strange. Jakob ignored the figure but Kiymoi was quite terrified, even though she was behind him he could still see her due to his sixth sense. He was much closer than the assassin and molester so he back up to her, his sword continuing to be levelled at the opponents, and lightly touched Kiyomi's forearm with his left hand, a gesture for him to say that he would not let the strange figure come close. As the molester came forward Jakob would raise his left hand to stop them from proceeding, Cerebus would address the girl. "Jakob's a bit prickly at the moment, I wouldn't approach if I were you."

Hopefully, the person merely gave up and went to the couch to sleep. When Byaku tried to approach and comfort the girl Jakob's eyes hardened again and he acted with his enhanced speed, also due to his sword being already levelled he did not need to move it far, he pointed it straight at Byaku as he approached, stopping him from proceeding less he pierce himself. Since Jakob was in front of Kiyomi and slightly to the right while Byaku was in front of Jakob he was in between Kiyomi and the assassin and he didn't plan to just let Byaku through. Kiyomi was an ally and Jakob had already lost someone to an assassin. His eyes seemed to convey a single message, "Back." Cerebus looked at Byaku, "Take another step and Jakob challenges you to a duel, an official one."

What Byaku said didn't make much sense at all. Jakob was well aware that Kiyomi was quite scared but Byaku's words made it sound as if she was dying. Jakob would never let a murderer approach one of his allies, pride did not drive this thought, common sense did. This person had killed 451 people, had worked as a contract killer, could still be working as a contract killer. Jakob would have to be stupid to let Byaku through to 'help' Kiyomi, for all Jakob knew, the boy could be trying to assassinate her. He then said that Jakob should get off his high horse, seemed to read his mind about an assassin killing his mentor, and said the he had never received justice for his crimes. That last statement just made Jakob's intent much stronger.

If he tried to proceed again Jakob would adjust his stance, making it clear he had no intention of letting the boy pass. The assassin then said that if Jakob really didn't trust him, which he didn't, he would remove all his weapons. Jakob curtly shook his head, an assassin could kill with his bare hands too. The strange creature began to write more stuff in the air and Frank took up the creature for a duel. Frank asked Jakob for his sword, Jakob would have hesitated before tossing it to him, he did not like the look of the creature at all and at least Frank seemed to be honourable, despite his choice of associates. The reason Jakob would have given his sword to Frank was because he still had his power and other weapons.

However, another man seemed to appear out of thin air and the two of them were gone, falling through a hole that quickly closed up again. They were gone before Jakob had his chance to give Frank his longsword. The man had calmed Kiyomi down before leaving, which was good. Jakob backed up, his sword relinquishing its contact with Byaku's skin as he did so. He now stood beside Kiyomi and lowered his sword so that the point was directed at the ground. Cerebus padded along and sat down in front of Byaku, "A man is nothing if he does not have pride, a man is nothing if he does not have honour, a man is nothing if he does not protect his allies from the advances of murderers and men like you. You refuse to accept Jakob's duel, and dare to call him pitiful. You have taken the lives of 451 people, Jakob and I will both remember you, your blood will be on Jakob's steel eventually."

Jakob then puts his left hand out and uses his longsword to slice the palm, he then wiped his hand up the length of the blade, smearing blood along it. A blood vow that contracted killers sometimes used, he had seen the assassin that killed his mentor do the same thing. He did this to convey a message to Byaku, his steel would drink the murderer's blood. He then pulled out some cloth and wrapped it around his sword, he then hung it on his back. Thus, it was not sheathed, and it would remain like so until he fought Byaku. He then pulled out some more cloth and wrapped it around his left hand which had the cut in it, stopping it from bleeding. He then turned his body towards Kiyomi and placed his right hand in her left one. He then lightly tugged and gestured towards the exit, indicating he wished to leave the area and take her with him. He didn't want to leave her with this man. If she agreed he would lead her from the area, Cerebus following them.
