Tsukushi cries more than I had thought.

I like the team's manager role so far, she's pretty tough. The practice match felt awkward imo, Tsukushi making many missed plays, getting yellow cards, and even fell on his knees. At this rate, he needs to really improve himself but I think there's room for that. However, I really like his determination especially with trying to go for the impossible.

So Seiseki won 12 vs 10, not bad...

Seriously though, this episode was as cheesy as ever. The characters are still endearing and the show still "feels good" but I really want to see Tsukamoto improve already and become able to do something other than just morale support.

Tsukamoto the best hype man any team could get lo000ol.

I feel for Kasahara senpai but it is what it is. Glad to see them win their first game of the tournament. Tsukamoto was running like crazy.

Tsukamoto is fucking great. True morale booster for the team, can't wait for him to be a soccer star (he can already run fast as shit through his endless training)

The first half was sad, i felt bad.

I was wondering if Kasahara's nickname "Kassano" was some kind of reference to this. I didn't notice at all until my mom passed by while Kazama was talking about "Kassano", and she made me notice this :D Well whatever

Anyway, I too think that Tsukamoto being able to play just because of his fighting spirit is going to get old soon, also because it's totally strange that such a clumsy guy gets to surpass his sempai that easily just because of that.

Also, tbh, I wouldn't call that way to prevent the ball to go out a wise move. I cringed.

Great episode and I found it quite funny at times as well xD

Chikako has Tsukushi in her palm xD

Sad that Kasahara couldn't get picked but that's that I suppose. It was kinda obvious it was gonna be Tsukushi as the 17th member but I couldn't real find a reason as to why they would pick him though it's pretty apparent why the coach picked him after seeing the game.

It's great to see how Tsukushi's appearance reinvigorated the entire team, His pure passion is helping the team relax. I laughed hard when he said "I want to win" after forgetting the coach's orders.

I didn't like Chikako at the beginning of the last episode and by the end of this episode I love her <3 , It was nice to see her set Tsukushi straight and stop him from being all moody.

Lol at Saku's captain xD

It was pretty obvious that Tsukamoto was going to be picked over Kasahara due to the power of MC. However, it was nice to see Tsukamoto boosting his team's drive to win. Hopefully he starts to improve his skills so he can do more than just being a cheerleader.

I actually started reading the manga last week to know to when will Tsukamoto improve. And I was a little frustrated because his development is really slow. I still like the manga though since he has something that really inspires the team! So far, manga is still on its 46 chapter so I am glad that they will do 24 episodes of this! More matches to come!!!

I love this show and this episode, as much as I love the idiot savant type chars that are over powered from day one, or don't realize they are strong till given a chance, but I'm loving a different style, where he's not the best player, he's not the strngest, but what he has is heart, and never gives up. Some times thats just as important or more so then being the best.

This anime is about a ditzy, uncoordinated girl who tried out for the cheerleading squad but got placed on the soccer team by mistake, but everyone keeps her around because she peps up the team and activates their maternal instincts with her clutziness and they're utterly amazed when she does something remotely useful.

Well that was a nice episode! I like the fact that we are starting to know a little more about other members of the team. I would feel really awkward being in tsukamoto"s position! It really sucks for the senpai, but he is a good guy and takes it gracefully.

The "I choose you because your will boost the team”s moral" was a little too easy to see coming but I guess it cant be helped...

There was so much wrong with this, I can't even... ARG! D:
For starters, nominating a complete beginner for the Interhigh Prelims over obviously better and more exerienced players? Dude, that's what you have test games for, not the real deal.

Seconds, Tsukamoto is being subbed in to "change the mood". This was a game against their rival school, no? Weren't they supposed to be good or something? Playing with 10 people on the field + someone the rest of the team has to cover up for the entire time is not going to work. Again, this is something you're doing in a test game, not a tournament.

Tsukamoto reaching that ball was downright impossible. Being fast does not make you good at soccer. You can go to the olympics as a runner, but not as a soccer player.

That hand play right in front of the goal, should've been red. However, that would've resulted in Tsukamoto leaving the field and not allowed to play in the next game, therefore we can't do that. *facepalm*

Until Ep4 it was alright, but now it's drifting off into lalaland.

It's not a rival school, since it's the first round it's safe to assume it wasn't really a strong school. The Seiseki players were merely nervous (as is the case with many first game of the season matches almost no one kicked into gear immediately). Having someone like Tsukamoto made them relax and give them the motivation. I suppose hearing encouragements from the stands is different than hearing it from the pitch. Just look at Simeone and Conte who turned their limited team into giant killers with their motivational skills.

While on that subject, both coaches weren't exactly known as technical players during their playing days yet they were renowned as on-field leaders. There are many others like Gary Neville, Dunga, or Roy Keane who are all somewhat limited as players yet they are all captains who are able to drive the team forward. Obviously you can't compare the overall ability of those players to Tsukamoto but as far as their impact on the team is concerned, they all have the same effect. Plus, although this game didn't show it Tsukamoto has been shown to be deceptively strong in last episode. Maybe he's kinda useless in attack but he'd be very useful in defensive phase (as a defensive forward ala Simone Zaza or Vardy)

Depends on the referee. Not every handball in penalty box resulted in red card especially if it was unintentional. Boateng's and Schweinsteiger's handballs during the Euro looked more ridiculous yet Schweinsteiger only got a yellow card (Boateng didn't even get one). From the snapshot it seemed like the opponent kicked the ball towards Tsukamoto and accidentally hit his palm, perhaps he shouldn't have raised his arm (neither should Boateng) but this kind of instinctive reaction happens all the time.

Agreed. Fun episode but it's a real stretch to put Tsukamoto on the team just to raise the mood. He can do that without having to take another player's position. Plus, it's pretty normal for players to get a bit nervous for their first game, no? I would think if Seiseki is that good, why wouldn't they have already developed ways to deal with their nervousness or get used to playing through it without having to rely on another person.

But well, obviously this series isn't about the realism, it's about 'how to take a pathetic kid with no athletic ability and make him a regular player on a strong team' lol

Not really, most of the hand plays in the goal area are given yellow card, only those shots who are pretty much a garanteed goal but someone hit the ball with their hand/arm deliberately are red cards.

Really hope that we'll get another Giant Killing one of these days (I mean why not? it still gets decent sales after all), but it is what it is and these shows have an audience for a reason.

Same here. I cringe so hard while watching this that I get the urge to punch myself in the face. Regardless, I think I must be a masochist, because I'm probably still going to watch this shite next week anyway.

Giant Killing is the only football anime I've watched that was not only bearable, but really fun to watch.

Isn't that the main selling point of the series? To see a passionate, honest and hardworking young man strive to get better and become an epic player? :D

I like the whole dynamic going on with the characters. From the comradeship of the players, and the chemistry between Tsukushi and Chikako.

There's two tournaments. Will each cour of the series focus on each of them, I wonder? Should be interesting!

You haven't been seeing much football lately.
Most referees never give a red card in a fault inside the box (except for agressions and such) because it would be a double "penalty" for the team (the red card + the penalty shoot)

I literally sat there with my mouth wide open during the game scene because Tsukamoto was put in for the same reason I was during my first game and WE BOTH RAN THE FASTEST AND STOPPED THE BALL FROM LEAVING THE FIELD! Of course, I royally fucked up after that and instead of kicking the ball to the MF who was my captain, I panicked and hit it straight to the opposite team. It's nice to know that the main character fucks up too though but I'm glad he doesn't stay discouraged.

I hope they use some romance in it as all sports anime seem to just be missing it an days has set itself up to actually have some if they decide to also i dont think he will be godly or probably not even good in the first season which i will be happy about if they do make him progress slowly. I hope days does lean to much toward Kuroko no Basket an Haikyuu!! cause it has the same feel to me an it will be nice to see it go its own way. also on him not being good in first season it takes time to get good an unlike other sport anime the main character only has spirit no background or skill in the sportso at earliest he might become ok by ep 12 Imo.
Anyway im really enjoying this series :)

I know it's no good excuse, but the focus is more on character development of tsukushi so the football match isn't given much importance in terms of animation, but once the match itself is the sole importance and tsukushi established himself, maybe it'll get better . I actually hoped production IG may pick it up .
