Feeling conflicted. The ending wasn't really eventful; I guess the triumph was nice itself. I initially had sort of an interest in the characters and the background in this show as well, but it quickly went downhill from there. Pity the execution wasn't great.

Same...I actually liked the three main characters and found them interesting in the beginning. Once they started to show all these other characters and didn't characterize them or anything, it just got worse and worse.

Reminder to self that checking out an anime for the VAs is okay, but if it turns out to be bad, stop watching. I guess I kept watching just to see how bad it could get, lol. Like a lot of other people who did the same.

But yeah seriously, this is probably the worst thing I've seen in awhile in that it barely made any sense because it felt so rushed. At least Gokukoku no Brynhildr from spring 2014 made sense despite apparently rushing through 100+ chapters. But this. This is on another level. There was just too many damn things going on and too many character that no one cares about in this series. They could've fleshed out the main characters more so we can understand and connect with them better, but no, there was a plot and they had to rush through that.

Well, this anime was kinda decent.
And it's gonna have a season 2? WTF!?
Anyway, I'll rate it a 6 (or 7?) score overall.

This is seriously the very first show that I found promising, but that turned out so bad afterwards, I had to give like a 3/10. The very first.
The other one is "Bihada Ichizoku", but I only watched the first few minutes for fun and decided it is garbage for me. Never rated any anime this bad before.

- So, what Deus Ex machina did revive or rescue everyone in the end?
- What is with Midori's friend and Akane's father and especially Aoto's brother?
- What happened to the robot girl Aoto took a selfie with a few episodes before?
- What was that episode with the training and conflict with the animal people for?
- What exactly does Loki want to pull off with Arthur?
- Does he want to make him an evil god? And if yes, why didn't he use the the gate for that or his "might"? Does he just want Arthur as his "barbie"?
- And just what were those Adapters for? Helping with criminals as in the first episode?
- What usage had this "bon" thingy that sometimes was with them and sometimes just disappeared?

I'm sure those are enough questions about the plot holes, but especially that they forgot that robot girl is hard to take. How can you simply "forget" a character?

Oh well ...
I read almost the half of the first page here, but I dunno if I want to read the rest of it or the next pages since I know what everyone will write. I really wanted to like this anime and even subbed it, and I liked Aoto and his change in the anime, but everything hardly made sense and the plot holes are bigger than any hole that made the titanic sink!

So, I guess I will just stop thinking about this anime and be happy that at least "Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya o Mezasu" wasn't a full disappointment.
I'm sure they could have pulled it off much better, especially with that handy game in mind, but well ...

See you, second season of Divine Gate, if you will ever be created.
I'll be sure to sub you again, no matter how bad you will be ...~

wut? why shinji is suddenly acting like a cool character when he betrayed akane and the rest, Arthur is still with Loki. Are they really thinking of a chance of a second season D:?

what a fucking joke LOL everyone is ALIVE!! I guess that was Arthur's doing?

how does Dark Arthur collapse the tower in one sword swing?

I guess Arthur and Loki are stuck in the God Realm until someone releases them. What fun it will be to be with a dickweed 24/7

I was half hoping Ginji wouldn't be able to convince the trio, just so another person would show up to do the same thing

that girl at the end was so cute, no wonder Aoto's brother is the way he is

Omg ... what a terrible last episode. They don't even go through the gate and EVERYONE'S ALIVE??? What a waste of 12 episodes ... oh my god OTL That was such a terrible conclusion :( Is there going to be a second season with that ending?! I guess there has to be ... why?! T_T

Yeah so, this anime had really terrible characters and plot ... I actually liked the animation/character designs though! The music was OK too, I really like the OP. Too bad it was executed so poorly I feel like they could have made this a good show :( 5/10

what a waste of a nice OP and ED and OST in general and it's clear that effort was put into the animation and voice acting, but the writers should end themselves.

Yeah, this final episode was just honestly forgettable. Basically I couldn't give any f**ks to the fact that the main 3 refused to enter the Gate despite hyping it throughout the entire show. Whatever.

Also, why is there no ending? At least it's conclusive, kind of, unlike Gangsta's, but seriously, WHY? At least the Knights of Round were alive, since their deaths all meant nothing anyways earlier. Basically them dying was pointless.

I may be a little generous with this, but this anime is getting probably a 5.5/10, much like Dance with Devils. While that show just starting sucking in the last half, this was just underwhelming all around.

wow and here I thought that the final episode will at least be decent because the last episode was not that bad tbh but yeah I was wrong I guess.
I hate how they changed their mind just because Ginji talked to them for like 30 seconds ??!! what the hell =/
And what's with Aotos brother now? Why didn't he go beyond the gate ???
The ending did not satisfy me at all.

I stopped caring about the characters or the plot after the first 3 episodes so it was easy to watch. I still can't believe I made it through without dropping it.

But still it is a terrible show which was all over the place. I hope they don't make a sequel. 3/10

Yawn...oh is it over already? Silly me, I shouldn't be sleeping in the episode discussion.

This last episode was such a snore fest, it's like they were so caught up in their pseudo-enigma narrative that they forgot it was the last episode and decided "Zoinks Scoob, let's just wrap up the conflict in 3 minutes and then tease for a second season!" And considering there was no announcement, this reminds me of one of those open ended "go read the manga/LN!" oh wait this is an original series so thank goodness that can't be done!

Divine Gate felt like it took a bunch of concepts and scrambled them together with no rhyme or reason. It always felt like the plot was being moved forward whimsically and behind all of the overly ambiguous dialogues were fairly shallow motives. It's not like the narrative style was bad, I liked it at some points. But it just didn't make up for the lack of focus or consistency and often beat around the bush. "The boy didn't like the rain because the rain was disliked." Well uhh no kidding?

With that said, I liked the initial idea and was starting to feel it after about 5 episodes. As soon as they started the expedition for the gate, however, that's when it felt like the threads were coming undone at the seams. I would have preferred a greater focus on Aoto and his brother, I wasn't really feeling Arthur's side of things. Which, speaking of, lol @ how all of the knights survived fatal wounds. The mythology references just felt so random and crammed in for the sake of it as well. Jumping from Shakespeare to Cinderella to The Wizard of Oz to Scandinavia to Santa Clause. Ay yai yai...

Going back though, the high point of this series was definitely Aoto and Ariton. Often times characters exhibit self sacrifice, believing that they are taking the brunt of the damage for the sake of the one they're protecting. It was very fascinating how Ariton was more tormented by being protected than sharing the pain. Actually everything involving Ariton kept me glued to the show.

5.5/10, it's hard to say at this point. I was feeling 6 vibes until the last episode and now I just don't know what to say.

THE FUCK DID I JUST WATCH?

- Santa but not Santa
- Arthur want the world peace but grab the cursed sword shit
- the knights died but not dead
- the only thing that actually meet their death are Akane's father and midori's friend (?)
- human and gods can easily enter the divine gate that it is so hard in the beginning (?)
- WHO THE FUCK IS METABON?
- hikari become the queen of heaven, and yukari become the queen of hell with no reason? what?
- ginji the messenger
- undine easily beaten with just one stab? I thought she's in gods class which takes so much effort when human try to kill them.

I AM SO CONFUSED. 4/10

While this anime started off good, it went really down hill along the way and became a very generic and meh anime in the end.

While the animation and art were still pretty good the overall story and characters just lacked. So all in all it was pretty meh.

when I want to watch the other 'GATE' anime, this anime came out at the search too so I just randomly picked it.

I didn't know this anime is for advertising the game. in that case I think this is quite successful, many people are talking about it and maybe will be remembered for long time.

First episode was great, I was wondering what did this series do to deserve the low score. Up until the half way point, the series was decent. From then on, it was a lot less than ideal. On top of that, it didn't even end well, if you could even call that an ending. -.-

Very disappointed because it could have been pretty cool.

It's true, humans are not perfect. But they are not better or worse in making decisions or choosing their fate than stupid and selfish gods. Leaving everything to the gods or the World Council is not a good idea. We have seen how this turned out.

I'm glad that the trio was able to overcome their obstacles and made the right decision in the end.

It was great to see the Knights again. I expected, that they aren't dead.

Oz paid a price for taking away the gods powers by accelerated aging. I feel sorry for him.

Not everything was resolved, but I'm satisfied with the conclusion.

Also Loki understood exactly nothing until the end.

The comments give the impression, that most viewers just threw in the towel and did go deaf. The plot was very basic and simple in my opinion.

i wonder why the anime is getting too much hate. personally, i enjoyed it a lot. it had a lot of deep thought to it and a great concept. i agree with you that some stuff didn't make sense especially in the last episode but it doesn't make the anime bad. with that last episode, though, i expect a second season for it.

At least one reasonable comment. I almost thought, that I was alone in enjoying it.

Final score: 1.5/10

In detail

They finally arrived at the "Divine Gate". We therefore expect Aoto, Akane and Midori to ask their wishes because this is the only logical objective of the series.
But ... no, actually, unnecessary Ginji arrives at random and made them a "little lesson" of morality and told them not to be selfish. The three eventually renounce reveal their wish. The other spirit of the "key" tells them that it doesn't matter (WTF after eliminating all the gods xD)
The Knights have all been saved by ... no idea, a miracle xD

In the end, this series is an infamous shit, with false psychology that makes the anime only pretentious and not intelligent.

Obviously this show went over a lot of people heads. It was actually an amazing anime. The fact that it was able to surprise without losing consistency and keep on point all while being clear what's going on was a fantastic asset.

The incorporation of gods and the references to famous medieval people was brilliantly done.

The only real criticism that can be had here is the deus ex revive.

Overall the show deserves a 9/10 at worst.
