WARNING: This thread is about the drama that is currently airing in Winter 2016 on Korean TV. As of the most recent episode (12) it is not only beyond the official US translation, but also beyond the unofficial translations that are available if you know how to look for them. So there WILL be spoilers and some of the things will be different from the manga, because they were not quite the same in the TV Drama.

After episode 12, I felt a need to discuss the drama... Having seen the raws of this section of the manga, I had been waiting for either the translation or the drama to get to this point so I could get a firsthand picture of the events instead of seeing it through summaries and the lens of a non Korean reader looking at the panels.

I now have a pretty clear picture of what happened between Jung and In Ho when they were teens. Before, I had been told about the fact that In Ho was reporting back to Jung's father about his behavior at school and "keeping tabs" on him and that seemed to be what caused Jung to distrust him. It was also made clear in the sections prior to this in the manga that In Ho was a pretty insufferable jerk to the guy who eventually crushed his hand. He treated him like dirt and rubbed his relative lack of talent in his face on a regular basis.

Watching the episode, I built this view:
1. In Ho was a complete jerk, to the other pianist who crushed his hand and to most everyone else. He did seem to get along with Jung, but even in their personal interactions he was frequently a bit of an @$$. Then the final straw came backstage at a competition.

2. Jung was seriously hurt by In Ho's betrayals of him both to his father and .... {See the spoiler block above} To add fuel to the fire, Jung's father wanted to adopt In ho and In Ha and make them officially Jung's siblings. (In Ha was against this because she wouldn't be able to marry Jung. In Ho was for it...) It wasn't the fact that he wanted to adopt them that was the problem, but rather the reason he was doing it.

3. Jung's father really did a number on him. His distrust in his own son and his belief, based on In Ho's grandfather's analysis, that Jung would have problems forming healthy interpersonal relationships because he of his antisocial tendencies made Jung feel that his father considered him to be "strange" or "broken" in some way. He made Jung not like himself and feel that he had to hide his true self from everyone. He made him distrustful of others and isolated him.

4. The big question: Was Jung responsible for the injury to In Ho's hand? The answer: Yes and No!

Yes: Jung set in motion a series of events that lead to In Ho's hand being injured by a group of delinquents and one jealous fellow pianist who got caught in a completely intolerable situation because of Jung's actions.
1. Jung got more friendly with the other pianist.
2. He talked about a drinking party some delinquents were planning with college age girls where he knew the other pianist would hear.
3. He intimated that he was going and asked the guy if he wanted to hang around with people like that.
4. In Ho's told them that it was stupid to hang around with those guys and slammed the other pianist's skill, telling him he should practice more and not go around with guys like that.
5. The kid went to the drinking party.
6. The cops came.
7. The delinquents wanted to know who ratted them out and the pianist remembered what In Ho had said and figured he had done it.
8. He hated In Ho because of how he treated him and crushed his hand while the rest of the guys were beating him up.
9. Jung was watching and In Ho figured that he had done it.

No: Jung would have NEVER been able to accomplish this if the pianist in question did not already hate In Ho enough to want to hurt him and if In Ho had not made it look as if he were the most likely person to have "ratted" the delinquents out to the cops. (They were most likely tipped by Jung, frankly.) He also wouldn't have even thought of doing it if he hadn't found out how little In Ho thought of him and that he was reporting back to his father about his behavior and keeping tabs on him. He also had no control over how the events actually went down after the police were called. It was probably about a 70-30 chance that In Ho would be blamed, but the other 30 percent was that the delinquents figured out that Jung had sent the pianist there, letting him think that he would be there, and then the cops showed up right after. They could have easily gone after him thinking he was to blame.

5. Seol really loves him... and he loves her...

@zensunni
What do you think of Seoul accepting Jung in episode 14? It caught me by surprise honestly. Didn't think she would be able to do that, since she had a big fight with him because he manipulated someone like that fat senior before.

Gotta say episode 12 was one of my favorites because before it I was definitely rooting for In Ho and thought Jung was just broken and a bad person for no particular reason. Seeing the flashbacks it really changed my impression of him. Started feeling sympathy for him. He is such a unique character.

@tsudecimo - I totally agree with you about episode 14. After seeing the previews for it at the end of episode 13, I was fully prepared for the "break-up before they get together for good" moment at the end of episode 14. The fact that Seol hugged him and told him, basically, "I totally get you and accept you for who you are and you're not going to get rid of me!" was a bit of a shocker! It was also a great moment. It isn't very often that a story truly surprises me...

I was always in Jung's court, but I felt that episode 12 justified it. The way he was treated by his family and by In Ho and In Ha was really not good. That episode showed the reasons why he is so broken and, to a large extent, that Seol is the one person who can put the pieces back together.

The previews at the end of chapter 14, though... That had me scared! I love the fact that the story of the drama is beyond the actual webcomic now. Anything goes and we have NO idea what is coming next, or if it will be the same as the comic or not! It is GREAT!
