I really liked it!

I really like how this old kind of animation fit to old stories/fairy tales.
It give lot of charm and mood to whole story and movie *.*

Parts with squirrels a little irritated me...
Movie would be better without them.

At some times I had moments where I really into it and it start to give me lot of feelings...

Music especially this is as always the best part *.*

Generally - I like it!
I want see more movies like this!

An okay movie, but nothing really special.

IDK how much I'd rate this in terms of enjoyment, but for the time era in which this was made, I'd give it a 4/5.

This movie started out with some promise.  I liked that Prince Siegfried declared to his mother that he shouldn't have to get married.  For a brief moment, it appeared that this story might sidestep the unhealthy focus on love at first sight and obsessive romantic love that plague prince/princess stories, but this was quickly dispersed when Siegfried met Odette and instantly fell in love with her.  Not only that, he petulantly demanded that she marry him, which frankly only put him a little ahead of the villain Rotbarth since he at least wasn't trying to hold her prisoner.  All of the characters are pushy and self-centered about their romantic feelings, even the squirrels, and none of them were well developed.  I'm aware that this movie came out 40 years ago and a lot of contemporary films were the same way, but I can't really give it a pass for that.  I was a little disappointed that Odille didn't survive, since she seemed to be the character with the most personality. Overall, 5/10.

You know this is based off of a ballet, right?

What it's based on is irrelevant. Being based on a ballet (or anything else) does not excuse the film's problems. Being adapted to a new medium is an opportunity to fix problems, not create more.
