Felt kinda odd for the pilot episode. OP song is somewhat catchy though imo while other parts felt silly. I mean, the usage of the OST didn't give me a thrilling feel. Although based on the episode, the technology and stuff was interesting in some ways. Kazari seems like somewhat of an interesting character. Otherwise, not sold on this just yet. Lol, the Engrish though. "Excuse me boss!"

Hmm the action was alright I guess.

Not a bad start imo

The premise was decent enough for a cop show and to me it felt a little like a light hearted version of Psycho Pass with our main female lead kinda reminding me of Akane from Psycho Pass in her early stages

The introduction of the main cast was okay and so far I like the dynamic of the entire group with our two mecha pilots plus the chief and purple haired girl being the stand out people for me

The mecha designs weren't as bad as I thought they would be and although the battles weren't really flashy per say, they still looked alright for my taste....Not sure how I feel about this series overall in general but so far it looks like it could turn into something that's pretty good in the long run

Kazari's so friggin annoying. She reminds me of Akane (Psycho Pass) in her early stages when she was meh but instead of naive for Akane here she's just annoying and bitchy thinking she knows it all (So like Mika). Love how the team treats her like a noob :P

I knew Saeki Shun was the Original character designer but didn't really see anything similar to his characters at the start until I saw Takeru. He looks so much like Souma. So that's how an Adult Souma would look like I guess ^^;

Blue haired girl is HAWT :L

Story is meh so far but we'll see I guess

It feels like they just suddenly dropped us into the show. The main character will take some time getting used to with her "Hey, look at me being smart and pretentious" personality.

Besides that, it was a decent first episode. Hope it gets better after this.

Dat engrish tho.

It doesn't look bad, but something makes me not to like it.
I will give it another ep, maybe even 2 to see.

Awfully fast paced for a first episode, not that it influenced the shoddiness presented so far in the show anyways. This feels like a sloppy rehash of Psycho Pass with some Classroom Crisis vibes. Must say, very disappointing coming from Code Geass' director, but the blame shouldn't be on him alone.

Kagari is highly irksome, but rest of the cast aren't any better. I can already see how tacky the character interactions and developments will be, which in turn will give the show a shabby form. Unless there're some interesting political intrigues later on, I don't see how it'd be redeemable.

The only thing that somewhat stood out were the soundtracks. At least one Code Geass staff managed to live up to expectation. GG Kotaro Nakagawa.

Am I literally the only one who actually likes the female lead lmao. Though I did like Akane too when I watched Psycho Pass so maybe that's why.

I'm actually really excited about this though the overuse of cgi in today's anime industry kind of annoys me. The art style in this series is nice though even though it's nothing special.

Active huh....

This was a fast paced episode and because of the plot of this anime that is actually a good quality for it.

The new special inspector has a lot to learn about the eighth unit... but all good things come in due time.

So guys in mecha suits protecting the public. Well, it reminds me a bit of Tiger & Bunny.

Our MC sure screamed really loud after seeing the 2 guys in their underwear. I guess this means she doesn't watch porn.

I didn't watch any of the PVs or really pay attention to this so I went in expecting a sci fi cop show and got a slapstick comedy sci fi cop show, I can't say it's not my fault, but I'm a bit disappointed.

CGI was pretty bad as well

That made me feel sleepy. Not particularly bad but there was nothing here for me to care about. I kind of dislike body suit mecha action which is why I struggled with Tiger and Bunny or Gatchaman Crowds.

A bunch of pretty looking characters fighting crime with their mecha suits. I don't see myself following this for more than 2-3 episodes. We'll see...

A very dull opening episode. I see other people saying how this is an amazingly faced paced opening episode but... well, it wasn't to me. Most of it took place sitting on a train and the final fight was like 30 seconds long.

It's a very generic group of characters, a generic set up and kinda lame robot suits. Very typical "our group are all rebels who get the job done and the evil government are trying to close us down with one of their rookie agents. Let's make the rookie look like a retard for 30 minutes until they decide to join us".

Kind of Rail Wars meets Tiger and Bunny meets Classroom Crisis.

Its not as horribly bad as Phantom world, but...it just feels like a mess. A bunch of elements thrown together and elements don't gel well together. In a way it reminds me a bit of Guilty Crown, which makes sense considering who is making this.

To get this out first - The OP is horrible. The singer is trying too hard to sound epic and the visuals are pretty much stills. It kind of reminds me of the "LN/VN advert shows" from 2000-2005 period, that did not have that much effort thrown into it.

Actually when I think about it "Trying too hard" describes whole show - as I said before, it has a bunch of elements that feel poorly thought out and the narrative is trying too hard to make it seem like the best thing ever.

Super Sentai genre is not something that is usually done good in anime. Tiger&Bunny and Samurai Flamenco got away via good quality writing, self awareness and meta commentary. Gatchaman Crowds and (to an extent) Yoru no Yatterman - via stylized art and darker subtext.

This does not have either of those excuses. It just feels thrown around together and as result I feel it fails to create interest or make the viewer attached to the narrative, leading towards it all feeling incredibly boring..

The fact that character designs(especially for the girls) looks out of place(most of them look like highschoolers and those faces...) also does not help.

IF the writers spent more time thinking out the world and creating a genuinely serious scifi cop drama(to scratch that SAC itch, not that Taniguchi Goro could write at that level), it would turn out decent. But this slapstick tone paired with poorly thought out setting and poorly handled narrative just makes it feel...bizarre?

I honestly don't know if I will continue watching this. It did not give off good feeling from promos and the first episode does nothing to stand out or make me feel better. We'll see how the rest of the shows are this season.

It's a comedy about cops who are kind of superheroes but not really. I like this.

Director Taniguchi was actually very transparent about the fact that Active Raid wasn't going to be a very serious show, therefore anyone who ever expected this to become a follow-up to Code Geass (or Planetes, etc) can only blame themselves and their lack of due diligence. Nothing was trying to present the show as a dramatic piece.

There was absolutely nothing major in the show even remotely similar to Psycho-Pass either, outside of a very common setup with a new female officer being introduced, so I wish that unnecessary comparison would stop. It's embarrassing. People should watch more cop shows.

No, not really. That's a very random comparison and your statement makes no sense either, since nobody working on this show had any role in the production of that one. None of the writing, direction or audio/visual elements involved in the two series share any kind of similarities. There are no real structural or superficial parallels.

The fact you don't like the slapstick tone is a personal opinion (as is disliking the OP theme song), but it doesn't mean the show should suddenly become a serious sci-fi cop drama. That's not what this series is trying to be, so your expectations in that respect are missing the whole point. The first episode of Active Raid was quite full of self-awareness and comedy, which is exactly why the cops weren't taking their jobs too seriously. That's not a secret.

It's very absurd to make too many comparisons to Tiger and Bunny, let alone Samurai Flamenco (which was, and remains to this day, a very controversial and divisive show because of its writing choices that some people love and others hate), without seeing more than one episode.

That also makes it rather premature to judge the narrative or setting at this extremely early point in the story, because there is simply not enough information provided yet. Which can be a valid criticism, if you prefer having more data right from the start, but it is foolhardy to reach such sweeping conclusions without any sign of patience or rationality.

the premise sounds like a fun turn of your brain series but the actual series is just kinda meh. will give it another episode or 2 but terrible cg in the first episode is not a good sign that any future action scenes will be any better

Seems like lots of people are having that thought.

Too much paint by numbers for me to enjoy: the two guys are the yaoi bait, enough shots of decent racks for the otaku. Characterizations were pretty bad, granted they had to introduce a lot of characters, but each of the introductions were too stereotypical: uptight clean boy, dirty "bad" boy, shy dark haired girl, cute short "chief", and the creepy genius mechanic.

And they really went out of their way to make us dislike the MC. Odd decision that. I don't mind the "fish out of water" combined with the "in over her head" tropes, but she was just so incompetent about even basic things (such as broadcasting things on the train at the start) and wrong about everything, that it is little wonder that most people here found her annoying rather than dis-likable. There was nothing of interest about her, or really about any of the characters. The writing itself was abysmal. Visuals were fine, and I liked the hat tip to Sakura Wars Train idea, but they really need to pull themselves together by next episode.

The first thing that i thought after watching this : Power Ranger.

The fucking female character is too annoying. i thought her character design was beautifull but the personality....fucking annoying. i already hate her after watching this episode. the action.......well, i can't say it was amazing and i can't say it was bad nor it was meh......just OKAY.

not planning to dropped this, but i don't think i can catch up with the episode while it's airing. let's just see what will happen in the next next episode. i doubt i will give this a score higer than 8 or 7.

AND EDIT: FUCKING MAIN CHARACTER, CAN SHE STOP SPEAK IN ENGLISH ? SHE SPEAKS ENGLISH EVEN THOUGH SHE CAN USE JAPANESE. IS THAT EVEN FUCKING NECESSARY ?

This reminded me of Power Ranger SPD with the police and badges.........sadly no "Guilty or Not Guilty" part. Well the episode was enjoyable with the fun characters. The female MC will probably get development and become more acceptable later so no need to hate on her at this early stage.......i have seen worse (Valvrave - Shouko).

As for the episode itself, we have the usual exposition and introduction of the cast as expected from the first episode. It can go several directions from the looks of it as our secret group are good at their job but unwilling to follow the typical rules and restricted by the Government in many ways. The op and ost were nice but sadly the op didn't have anything too much exciting.

Fanservice was bare minimal and it looks like the show will have both fanservice and manservice........it's good to be fair but people will still complain anyway. I hope it doesn't go full echhi later. Pink Ranger is coming up next episode so we will see then. Ending up with just underwear in public too many times can get a bit annoying so hopefully that doesn't happen too much.

The action though short was nice and fun. Since Orange, the studio that worked on 3DCG of Majestic Prince is working on this show, i have high hopes in the action department. Majestic Prince had one of the best mecha action scenes in recent times.

An original show can be a hit or miss for people. I am going to skip the obligatory watch a few episodes comment since people love to complain after only one episode of any new series to show off their typical and pointless elitism. People who dropped Majestic prince or Gundam Build Fighters earlier missed out on 2 amazing shows. We will see in a few episodes which direction this show takes.

Man, I can really tell that people here don't watch old school anime. This show is obviously heavily inspired by Patlabor.
Rookie is sent to new division in the Police
Division has the reputation of being goofballs or oddly unconventional
Substitute the mecha Willwear for Labor and there you have it.

I've yet to see a Taniguchi show I didn't enjoy, so I'll keep on watch it, even though this first episode wasn't too impressive.

The problem with that theory is that this show is too generic to even be able to make that comparison, this show could be compared to hundreds of different series with even more validity. Almost every army/cop story, and definitely all that intend to have some comedy, has the same "wet behind the ears rookie being sent to join a section with screw ups in it" set-up.

As for it be "inspired" by Patlabor, please. The first episode was too bad to warrant a comparison to anything, particularly one of the best robot animations ever made.
