I...am personally not a fan of these images. Something about them seem off. I'm fine with Yamato, Takeru, and Koushiro but that's it. But given everything else I've seen this isn't gonna really change the fact that I love the designs overall. :D

Not gonna lie, the character designs just seem awkward. Mimi & Joe look the best, and Izzy also looks alright, but the rest are pretty cringe.

I think there's almost no digimon anime that's not about saving the world, even the best digimon series is still about saving the world.

Tamers and X Evolution is still about saving the world, whether it's the digital world only or both human and digital world

The first chapter will premiere on November 21th, and Bluray and DVDs will be released on December 18th. This means that it will be available to the international fans this year. I was worried about that, but now this is a great news.

Also the first movie will be 80 minutes long it seems.

OMG OMG THIS IS GREAT NEWS

Like holy crap, this is like a first for Digimon, I'm so excited! This would mean the other five movies could be just as long!

Man, I wonder how Saban's going to approach this. They can't just put movies together now to be longer (though it'd at least make some sense this time around), so I'm looking forward to their announcement on it.

Region free doesn't mean international release, it just means you can play the BDs on any player, the days of region-locked BDs are mostly gonne, too.

Animation looks ugly. Digimon designs too (what happened with these beautiful designs from second poster?!). I really like Uki Atsuya but... it doesn't have a feel of his style. I expected it to be smoothly animated thanks to him, but Toei just fucked it up. Tsuritama with Atsuya looks much, much better. PV of Cencoroll 2 too...

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. Just look at their faces, they look bad when characters are moving. I know that this is a standard nowadays, but when I heared that Atsuya'll be doing designs for tri. I was like "Wow, it'll look awesome". Then the second poster came out and it looked really, really nice. When third poster was shown (that one with digimons only) I was thinking "What happened with these beatiful digimons from previous poster?". And now we're here, when there're two PVs and, ok, they doesn't look awful, but compared to the concept arts shown at the official site, they look really cheap and, seriously, I don't see Atsuya in this. It looks like they asked him to draw some really good posters, concept arts and designs and then told him "Shut up, you're not involved in this from now on".

You still doesn't get it but I must agree with the first part of your post. Look at the concept arts, even at the newest one with Omegamon and Alphamon. They just look beatiful. What we can see in the PVs has nothing to do with Atsuya's original drawings. A-1 Pictures in Tsuritama done it properly, they just moved his artstyle to the screen and it looks awesome. Now I can see why people say that Toei is shit.

But I don't know what Madhouse has to do with Cencoroll. It's Aniplex's work.

Edit: I found this comment on ANN, I'll post it here, because it says exactly what I couldn't put into words
Come on, guys. Be objective. The animation is not that great. Having a lot of sparking effects flying around is not the same as a good animation.

This is nice, and even though how much I'm excited for this, this isn't the A+ level animation I expected for a theatrical film.

Digimon had better. Yes, I'm talking about Our War Game. Uki's drawings have also moved better as animations. Dig Cencoroll some research, guys, for references sake. That guy even done the job almost alone.

Really, Toei should improve the staffs line in the animation department, for the next 5 films. Give Uki the animation director's chair, even. It'll work best for his own designs.

Sorry about that Madhouse comment, I forgot who did the animation.

I think the 80 minutes duration is why the animation wasn't that great. I mean, BnWG is just a 40 minutes movie and Tri is 6 parts movies with considerably same duration for further parts as Saikai.

TOEI sucks indeed, but when they do a single standalone movie, they're superb (look the case of X Evolution and Legend of Sanctuary)

Btw for those who are even wondering why Wada Kouji's voice changed very much and maybe isn't as good as original version for you, remember that he had lung cancer since long time ago and had been just recovered from 2 years of hiatus. So no wonder his voice isn't as good as back then

To be completely honest, I thought the CGI for X-Evolution was okay. It was probably passable for its time (in 2005, but that's most likely not true either, since the CGI Digivolutions in Savers, from what I've seen, look amazing), but it looks weird now. Toei can do better CGI if they put the effort in it, but one of Digimon's traits is that its quality is not top-notch. I don't expect the movie to have off-model shots up the wazoo, but it's probably still going to happen.

I still think X Evo was one of best TOEI movie in terms of CGI and animation. You can see how detailed a digimon was. Like that Dorumon's fur, Omegamon's MetalGarurumon's head, the damage taken by MetalGarurumon X and Wargreymon X, etc. Even the attack animation was superb even for a 2005 movie. I haven't even found a 2005 anime movie that can compete with X Evo, maybe only Advent Children.

I suppose, but even so, the animation would probably be better off coming out in the early-2000s than 2005, at least when Tokomon X is concerned. It's just "okay" at best.

you expected it to be same like a pixar movie it seems, it's too far to compare. Nope I still think it's one of best CGI japanese movie on that year. early 2000? you must be joking, even no japanese movie on early 2000 that can be so detailed like X Evo, not even japanese CG movie from a game.

I never expected it to be like Pixar, but since The Spirits Within, a 2001 movie (very, very loosely based off of Final Fantasy anyway), still looks good to this day and especially back in 2005, I definitely did expect the technology to be up to par (the next time a photorealistic animated movie was made, it was with The Polar Express in 2004, but that still looked weird in comparison to Spirits Within). I know X-Evolution is a cartoon, and the Digimon were always going to look cartoony any way you look at it, but I feel the lighting was off at times, which is why textures looked odd, and the animation sometimes looked a bit clunky or stiff (understandable if they were giving the illusion of weight, but it looked weird on some of the characters).

I don't know if Toei made any other CGI movies since, but I know they can do better if they put the effort in it. But given who Toei is as a studio, we'll be lucky if the CGI looked consistent and decent in anything they made (Sailor Moon Crystal's CGI could've been better for sure, the art style just didn't work with it).

TOEI made some full CGI movies like Saint Seiya Legend of Sanctuary and Rakuen Tsuihou (but it's an anime-style with CG)
Well, I still think X Evolution is a great CG movie on that time, I never saw something clunky with it, also the movement of a digimon doesn't look like a robot or doll but very realistic. If it was something "okay", there must have been a bunch of CG movies better than it on that time

Haven't seen them, but I looked up Legend of Sanctuary briefly yesterday, and Rakuen today, and saw comments that the animation in both movies are good, and the posters do show good quality. But then again, those movies were released just last year, nine years after X-Evolution, so of course the CGI is going to look better.

Exactly. Though thinking back on it, I honestly think that the rather poor quality we have of the movie online probably adds to why I think it looks weird. I don't know if Toei released it on DVD or not, but all I could find was the TV recording version (or at least the English subs are of the TV recording, though as I'm looking around, even the Spanish subs version doesn't look good, either, it's blurry or pixelated at times and it's distracting).

I did just see your review, although you never talked about the graphics outside of "it's awesome as they are for 2005", and that's not really helpful in that aspect (although the rest of the review is fine as-is). But I didn't have any personal problems with the movie outside of the graphics, I guess it just really wasn't my thing, even though it was nice to just have a full cast of Digimon.

yeah I can't describe detailed on that time of my review, all my attentions are just the plot and characterization

After looking at the new preview, it looks like Mimi still had that annoying personality. I am not shipping her with Tai.

The new PV is epic. I look forward to this so much now. Too bad we'll need to wait until december for BD. But this looks great so far. I wasn't fond of the new art style but seeing the characters moving made me love it. It works really well with Digimon.

Actually, I think its great that the BD will be released in December. Thats fantastic.

I thought that with the movie being on late November, the BD might have been released like in April.

This is great actually.
