Overrated? Overrated.

The whole "fallen musician becomes pro due to terminally ill friend" has been played to death (heh) many times. The whole "journey" was meh and when she finally died I couldn't help but feel disappointed over the entire thing. Do you think it's overrated or do you think it deserves its praise?

I was wondering when this thread will come.

Actually this post useless since I only seen up to ep 8, but it was obvious much that she will die.

Also, put spoilers in the thread title.

Not at all, the execution of the ending was nearly flawless, if only we received more closure to the series in which I hope the upcoming OVA will elaborate on. Overuse of a certain formula is a poor excuse of rating a series. Because Shigatsu wasn't the first to come up with such a plot, it's bad? So if it were the first to make up something like this, it's good? We get the same series either way with nothing changed but that biased attitude. The ending wasn't predictable, it was an obvious fact nearly halfway through the series and the author didn't even attempt to hide the truth.

To quote what I said in the chapter discussion thread:
It seems people are equating predictability to "shit story." It's not being unable to guess the development that makes the series good, but how the development is executed, and Shigatsu did a pretty damn good job. Oh, so you "knew" what was going to happen before the ending came? Congrats, so did those who paid attention to all the death flags blatantly being waved at the reader halfway through the series. Perhaps I should now spoil myself the ending to every series before I read/watch it and call it shit when I'm done because I knew the ending? The author wasn't going for the surprise factor that Kaori died, the author was painting a story of how it inevitably concludes.

But it got forced "feelz" so it will be praised, nothing new here.

this but what annoys me more is the "feels" shit and than it changes into comedy like "let's cry and than beat the mc for being a shitfuck"

Clannad, Angel beats, Ano hana and now Shigatsu.
Well, it's not a surprise if some people hates a series with "feels".

The inconsistency when it came to atmosphere and the drastic art shifts from drama to random slapstick ruined it. Because it fails at execution it is, sadly, only defined by its premise and ending which is what makes it cliche. But that's my two cents. There is no such thing as a bad unoriginal plot but there is a formulaic, cliche, unoriginal way of execution and that's how Shitgatsu whatever did

To think people were comparing this to Nodame, is a complete insult to Nodame
