Can we talk about how the Zeta Gundam never ever experiences any teething problems that would normally be associated with a prototype, and yet the Russians have made well over a hundred flights of their Progress robotic cargo spaceship and Soyuz rocket, yet just this week it appears the third stage exploded, leaving the thing tumbling out of control with no way of communicating with it?

Implying the Russians stand a chance against the technical ingenuity of an angsty teenager.

Kamille didn't design the Zeta; at most he laid out the thing or did the high level concept. Something like that is too complicated for any one person to do; you'll never find somebody who has sufficient knowledge experience in every area - controls, structures, propulsion, etc. to completely design something that complicated on their own.

I'm pretty sure they state somewhere that he personally designed it, in those words. Which implies he did it alone. I think.

According to the Gundam Wiki:

The MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam (aka Zeta, Ζ Gundam, ζ Gundam) is the titular mobile suit of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Though the unit itself had many pilots throughout Zeta Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, it was most famously piloted by its designer, Kamille Bidan.

The MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam's design was originally used to build three prototypes; the "MSZ-006-X1", the "MSZ-006-X2", and the "MSZ-006-X3" as part of Project Zeta. While these machines can transform, there is too much metal fatigue on the frame. This problem was corrected by Kamille Bidan, a Newtype teenager, incorporating innovations of that time such as the "movable frame" concept extracted by the Anti Earth Union Group from the Titans' RX-178 Gundam Mk-II project (headed by Franklin Bidan), and the Gundarium gamma alloy used in the RMS-099 Rick Dias.

The Ζeta's design was revolutionary in many ways (both in and out of the anime), and in the UC time-line looked very different from previous models of the Gundam type of Mobile Suit. The transformation ability and the suit's great speed is the Ζ's signature quality, as its transformation is fluid and integrated into its combat style often giving it grace unrivaled by most MS. In the story of Gundam Sentinel, when the MSA-0011 S Gundam approaches the Base of Pezun, a commander replied there shouldn't be Mobile Suits like Zeta Gundam everywhere that have the high acceleration of a Mobile Armor but of the size of a Mobile Suit. While ironically, two MSZ-006C1 Ζeta Plus C1, a.k.a mass production Zeta Gundam units, are approaching behind S Gundam as a demonstration of how technological advances quickly shifts the form of war.[1]

Kamille Bidan became the designated pilot of the Ζeta Gundam in the year UC 0087. Replacing Gundam Mk-II as his personal Mobile Suit, Kamille obtained the Ζeta Gundam after returning to space from the Hong Kong incident involving Four Murasame. Screaming into battle, this sleek convertible Mobile Suit took all of the Titan's forces by surprise with its incredible performance and attack potential. Kamille led many successful missions against the Titans and the AEUG turned the tide of the war. Kamille in the Ζeta was responsible for battling and ultimately killing Titans leader Paptimus Scirocco, besting his powerful mobile suit, the PMX-003 The O.

So Kamille solved a crucial problem regarding the Zeta prototypes, hence why it's often said he designed the Zeta Gundam.

That's only the armor the entire thing isn't made of it. Look, if there wasn't an electrical fire at some point in it's career, it means they weren't trying hard enough.

You are clearly underestimating the advantages of using Gundarium versus your traditional metal alloy

While it’s called an "alloy," Gundanium contains many non-ferrous metals and non-analyzed matter, meaning it is not a true metal. It is created in high-temperature plasma that can only form in zero-gravity. The compound is adjusted in nano-units, a process so precise that it can only be done in gravitationally stable Lagrange Points. The annealing process, which strengthens the alloy, is performed by electromagnetic waves from the sun. It is even rumored that the nuclei of the atoms themselves are modified within the Gundanium alloy.

There is no armor capable of defending against beam weapons. The Gundanium alloy used in the Gundams' armor and the Planet Defensors of the Mercurius and Virgos is highly heat-resistant and virtually immune to corrosion, but it's still not immune to beam attacks. It does, however, create an "anti-field" that repels beam attacks to some degree, reducing the damage delivered, but not stopping it outright.

High heels don't make you feminine, just fruity. See Rozen Zulu. Katoki has an obsession with legs.

Angelo's Geara was the manliest of mechs until Sinanju came along and tagged its parts all over it until it was Rozen. It's some sort of rape. I imagine the situation was the same with FF and Angelo. The result is a hermaphroditic robot that can't compare to the naturally voluptuous Tetra:

Mecha discussion in general? Which one is more fun: Valvrave, Aquarion, Star Driver, Daimidaler, Nobunaga the Fool, or something else I'm missing? I'm looking for something recent (2010+), and as ridiculous as possible. Nothing serious. Older stuff is OK, but I've probably seen it. The only recent mecha I've seen are Cross Ange, Shidonia, Aldnoah, Akame, Rolling Girls, Gargantia, Dandy, Gundam, and Captain Earth. CA is probably the closest to what I'm looking for.

Yeah, I found Star Driver and Valvrave the most fun of those. Driver is heavy on the cheese and spirit, Valvrave is just just top Sunrise edgesilly.

Daimidaler was pretty amusing if you don't mind the hands in pants ecchi. The VA's and Masaki Endoh helped save it. Lukewarm parody with good laughs if you like potty-sex humour. The action was pretty good at times too.

Aquarion was pretty dull at times, and largely forgettable, since it was episodic. It has its laughs, and the openings were golden. Haven't seen Evol. The format was mostly CGI supers with the formulaic gimmick/team learning per episode, so it ended up with the rushed climax sort of thing.

Nobunaga was silly, but never really outrageous like Aquarion. It tried to have a story while mucking around a lot, and it crammed a lot of random things in, but overall wasn't really that engaging, imo. Kind of felt half-baked and directionless.

If you haven't seen it, I'm a sucker for Majestic Prince. It's very by-the-book cheesy heroic team-spirit vs the space invaders stuff, but the cast was likeable, the episodes had a good pace and variety, and the CGI action was a real showcase.

Majestic Prince is on my PTW, but seems a magnitude more serious than the aforementioned. I do have a more serious mecha list I'll get to eventually.
