| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- So begins the first multi-part story we've had since volume 1... Gonna be completely honest here, while I was translating chapter 17, the main thing I could think of was "Once I'm done with this chapter, I'll finally get to work on the Magic of Ambition three-parter, yay!" Because yeah, I really love this story. I obviously can't go into much detail about why I like it so much here, being that this is only the first part, but still, I just wanted to get that out of the way. So, in this chapter: Asuma is sending out letters to an old friend of his, Ahito suspects that by reading those letters he'll be able to find out something about the people who experimented on him as a kid, so he tries to hijack the letter only to find that Asuma had predicted this and planted a decoy letter. Gotta love how Ahito is so tense about what amazing secrets he might learn from the letter and then... it's an invitation to a party. And then Misaki immediately concludes that now that they've seen the letter, they have to take responsibility and go buy ingredients. I just find it hilarious how seriously she takes it too... Then Asuma starts having a flashback and we are left hanging just as that starts. More on that next time. Oh and BTW, if you look at the publication-dates for these chapters, you'll see that almost two full years had passed between the release of chapter 17 and 18... and that chapter 17 was itself released nearly THREE years after chapter 16... So this chapter was the series' long awaited return from its seemingly endless hiatus... and yet the actual main character of the series is hardly in it at all. I just find that kind of ironic. "THE LONG AWAITED RETURN OF HIBIKI'S MAGIC, FEATURING... not Hibiki, she's completely irrelevant in this chapter." |
