The Two Nations Austirca Austirca shares its borders to the north-east with the rival nation of Panovir. Austirca was once an Empire but has long since 'abandoned' the monarchy system, although descendents of the former royal family are still alive, in favour of a strange form of democracy. Austirca is split into seven states, also known as regions or realms, known as Damascus, Olmeos, Cravor, Esklar, Toles, Vatica and Sestan. Each of these regions is run by an elected parliament but the government of the region who wins the Arbitrium, the tournament for Panovir’s Box every five years, will become the supreme government over the other regions of Austirca. Damascus is the current capital of Austirca. Panovir Panovir is a large country ruled by a monarchy, although the king or queen is supported and advised by governors they appoint to the various states below them. Panovir has a long history of warring with the surrounding nations but in more recent years they have become less volatile. They have always had a rocky relationship with Austirca, especially since they discovered that the neighbouring nation is in possession of Panovir’s Box. Unbeknownst to Austirca, Panovir are preparing to sabotage the Arbitrium. |

The Seven States of Austirca Damascus The People: The Land: Damascus is composed of high mountains and high plains, and very rich in greenery – luxuriant plants elsewhere are common vegetation here. Some of them are utilized in herbal remedies that secure a rather stable alternative pharmaceutic industry. The people of Damascus also take a lot of interest in standard medicine, and invest a lot of time and money in medical research. When it comes to underground resources, Damascus is also abundant in minerals, oil, gas, precious metals – predominantly gold – and iron, as well as more minor deposits of salt, all which only serve to strengthen the state's economical prosperity to a point where it dances on the verge of opulence. Another stronghold of Damascus is its' exploit of natural textile fibers, which have spawned a monopolizing industry of their own: about seventy-percent of the fabric used in Austirca is made here while about eighty-five percent of the clothing in the Federation is tailored here. There exists a growing interest in export, which prompts an increase in exploitation. Damascus presents a temperate-continental climate. The Culture: The State: Olmeos The People: The Land: Olmeos is mostly composed of low plains and hills, being technically a peninsula as it is bordered on the northern side by the mainland, on the eastern and western sides by narrow seas, and on the southern side by the ocean. Olmeos presents a mediterranean climate. The Culture: The State: Cravor The People: The Land: Cravor is a mostly mountainous land peppered with lakes, famous for the high rocky cliffs and numerous waterfalls it has; as such, the people that populate it have adapted to “life at altitudes”. Quasi-barbaric in a social sense, the harsh people of this state take to jewel magic like fish to water – they use the elaborate gems found in their vast cavernous mines to correct the faults of their territory. In no other place will you find gardens as proficient as theirs (ironic, considering how...sterile the soil truly is when magic doesn't meddles with it). Those gems are also the main source of income for the regular citizen, as the jewels of Cravor are sought throughout the whole wide world. Vegetation-wise, the land presents a lot of thick forests, predominantly pine, as well as typical tundra plants. Cravor presents a tundra climate. The Culture: The State: Esklar The People: The people are typically short (averaging at 5'6”), with pale skin tones and a variety of unusual, vivid hair colors (from blue and red to pale pinks and violets and everything in-between, au naturelle). Their style of dress is extravagant: layered clothing, wide belts, long skirts and wide sleeves, with a critical attention to details and colors. Embroideries, damask and silk are highly prized. Esklarians also favor jewelry, and it is common for both men and women to have at least one piercing in each ear. They are very disciplined and hold in high regard traditional values. The Land: Esklar is composed of mainly high plateaus and low hills, Ekslar presents a highland climate. The Culture: Esklarian religion is centered around temples and monasteries, with a pantheon of at least 25 deities. Gods are served by priests and monks, with Goddesses served by priestesses and nuns. It is heavily impacting on the society of Esklar, as spiritual truths often have wormed their way into juridic ones. Social status is extremely important to the Esklarian culture and there are many fine divisions of these class distinctions; they are maintained with reverence since they denote one's fate as chosen by the Gods, usually judged by his/her previous life: a poor man should remain a poor man as a punishment for being honorless in his previous life. The State: Esklar is ruled by its' High Council, a legislative and executive entity comprised of elected officials as well as members of the noble Great Families. The head of the military (which is typically elected from among lords of the Great Families) is appointed by this Council and receives the title of Warlord during a grand ceremony. Subsequently, he (or she) is given the supreme command over the legions that comprise the army of Esklar, and is tasked with not only protecting the realm, but also with keeping the peace in its' borders. Soldiers are also called upon when executions are decided by the Supreme Court following grave crimes. Toles The People: The Land: Toles is composed mainly of low plains and grand deserts with the afferent oases, Toles presents a dry tropical climate. The Culture: The State: Vatica The People: The Land: Vatica is a geographical oddity; bordered on all sides by a mountain circle, the depression formed inside the arc is comprised of very low plains which, due to the heavy all-year-round rainfall, are submerged completely underwater for the most part, with the exception of the plains nearest to the mountains (about ~150km of land from the base of the arc toward the “swamp” length-wise). The main exploit of Vatica is marble and granite, although rather than centering on export, they use these resources for their own infrastructure: pagoda-like buildings that rise above the water on vast platforms, supported by wide and sturdy pillars built on the ground beneath the waves. Vatica presents a humid tropical climate. The Culture: The State: Sestan The People: The Land: Sestan is mostly comprised of medium-high plains and high heels with very few mountains in the western region, found almost always under the reign of thunderstorms. Sestan presents a tropical monsoon climate. The Culture: The State: |

Guardians Guardians are the tools used by Sorcerers to compete in the Arbitrium. They are the manifestation of mythological beasts and monsters, made real by the power of Panovir's Box and anchored by the Sorcerer. The summoning ritual chains the soul of the Sorcerer and that of the Guardian together, representing a mark that appears somewhere on their body. From then on, the Sorcerer can give it form and have it fight by simply calling its name. This power, however, requires a steep price. Because their two souls are bound to one another, their life force will shared between them. This means that any injuries that a Guardian recieves will affect its Master, and should a Guardian fall in battle, the Sorcerer too shall perish. |
