This show is made by Studio Ghibli (the patron saints of anime).

This show is CGI and looks like their Nintendo DS game.

This show will more than likely be bizarro mad town popular and sell like hotcakes.

Between this, Sydonia and Arpeggio, is the day of clumpy action figure anime upon us?

In my opinion, the CGI for "Knights of Sidonia" wasn't bad.

More expensive traditional animation would have been preferred, since CGI is still not the best looking unless it has a budget like Disney (an Pixar), DreamWorks, or Toei Animation that made the CGI film "Space Pirate Captain Harlock".

Golden Time. I knew the animations were bad but I don't even remember many scenes with people as CGI. That is pretty bad wow.

I don't even remember that scene (or any CG for that matter), but I still knew it was from GT before I read it >.>

Still, it's hard to watch entire shows with that. Couldn't get into the Kingdom adaptation either because of it.

Saw the preview, the 3DCG is pretty poor.

If you want to see 3DCG ruining anime look at a certain Mekaku City Actors opening.

This will be a daytime/morning show, its success will have no affect on late night tv shows. whens the last time a ghibli movie had any affect on late nigth tv shows?

This show will rely on ratings for its profits, it wouldn't even surprise me if it gets a DVD-only release or a box-set release.

3D CGI doesn't bother me, especially if it's all animals and such (a good example is Arashi no Yoru ni). 2D CGI, in the other hand, looks awful... I would like to watch this anime because it's from the Studio Ghibli and the story happens in a forest (there's Nature and animals everywhere, I love that), but I don't know if I can ignore the awful 2D CGI.

The 2D realm is still my favorite place.

Yeah Ghibli switching to 3d cgi when they are known for never using 3dcgi means nothing.

Amazon Stalker told you that.

Making one CGI show ≠ "switching to CGI". And Ghibli might be a well-known studio, but they're not going to make CGI anime "take over". Quit being so dramatic.

I think they are trying to evolve somewhat. Like a Disney branch now, and that the great guru Miyazaki is out . . . Mmmm, I'm allways with classical way with mere computer touch, so the results are better, 3D animation have a limit, I dislike extensive 3D to all the aspects, you can save an animation like FFVII Advent Children i.e. with a game base. But I don't imagine Love Hina on 3D, only latest UMEMARO hentai doujin films have the chance to give this technology into a serious animation, but it have its limits at all if you near it to a real model anime lose it raison d'être, this is a lowcost formula on decrement against staff, but need many specialized ones on other hand and materia.

I have not seen the result of this thread, so when I can saw the animation, I could argue with more sense.

No, I don't think so. I don't know the difference in cost between and full 3dcgi anime and a regular modern one (maybe some cgi, but mostly 2d), but I don't think Japan will give up the distinctive look of anime. I hope they don't.

Not to mention how ghibli is not popular among Otaku, they are a mainstream studio/producer. At best/worst(depending on your opinion onc CGI) it will affect mainstream anime, but not the late nigth otaku shows.

It seems that studio ghibli is making the environments in 2D while polygon studio is placing their 3d characters onto it(with the exception of a couple scenes/frames).
They really don't blend since the animation of the 3D doesn't fit (Is not up to par) with ghibli's gorgeous backgrounds. It looks like 3D animation that you would see in a low budget game.
In the end they should've either gone full 3D or keep it at 2D since combining those two usually creates a mess when it comes to blending the characters into the environment

I tried watching the first episode, because I love the original story by Astrid Lindgren and how could anything by Ghibli NOT be good?? I was so looking forward to it, but I had to drop it after 20 minutes because of the terrible, terrible artstyle. The backgrounds are beautiful and amazing, but the characters move and speak so unnaturally, it's like watching a computer game from the early 2000s or so. I also don't like the character designs that much (especially that hair, like what?)
I am so disappointed, but I just cannot get over it, I really tried. :(

Everytime I see that ending theme I feel kinda sad that characters doesn't look like on that pictures from ending theme.

Story and whole anime is good, but that CGI looks so cheaply...
Is like some new animation studio makes this anime...

I think lot of people like me started watching it just because is made by Ghibli.
Really, they should make classic animation for it,
because anime lose lot of points because of low quality animation.
