I am pissed that they didn't do Hawk's plea to shake hands in his Engrish. I always thought Ueda Yuuji would make a great Hawk, but I guess Akio Ohtsuka is ok

Sound direction in this ep was great, as was the fight overall. The sheer excess of Takamura calling himself -sama twice in the same sentence was the cherry on top of it all.

This series seems to have hit its stride in the last two episodes. I'm totally looking forward to the Battle of the Hawks without worries about bungling now.

wasn't a bad episode but i didn't think it was handled too good either. The pacing is just far too fast, i know the episodes are only 20 minutes long instead of 25 minutes now but the director needs to learn that he doesn't need to rush through shit tons of material and place it into one episode, i feel this has been ruining the emotion and drama portrayed in the scenes throughout this second season, the same for this fight as well, when i read this fight in the manga i thought it was a proper tense situation, whilst in this i just felt it was rushed so quickly, even takamura's ring out just failed to get a rise out of me.

judging by the pacing the next episode will cover
and i suspect by episode 19 the fight will begin and the anime will end with
which if it does is incredibly rushed, oh well here's hoping it works out in the end.

I knew there was no way that fight could last more than an episode. Takamura's comeback is so retardedly GAR as is the comment following the match. Nothing like the always pompous Takamura referring to himself as ore-sama as well. We love you, Taka. So glad to see they didn't tone down Hawk either, ahahahaha. I love that crazy bastard. I was gonna say they shoulda borrowed someone from the Eden of the East English crew to voice Hawk, but that was magnificent. Can't wait for the interview scene now, that was so ridiculously intense, hope it adapts well.

I was surprised how fast the fight went. It felt a bit longer in the manga for some reason. But I did like how they did a montage through the fight like a classic Rocky movie which I thought was cool.

Anyway

After playing some Street Fighter IV in Japanese, Akio Ohtsuka as Seth has convinced me he can do some menacing voices.

I wasn't really impressed by the episode. It wasn't bad, but it definitely had more bravado than it could put up for.

It is also one of my favourite bits too next to the hawk fight, i just hope the director doesn't fuck it up, but honestly when this season ends i hope they wait for nishimura to finish with the trigun movie so he can resume his position as director of ippo again before making any new seasons/episodes

So, uh. What was so creepy about that last scene? Why was everyone freaking out?

Unless Hawk is confessing to be a cannibal or something (which would be...odd), what's wrong with saying that you like to eat Asian women?

Cuz japanese media is used to boxers being humble and respectful? So slight sexual reference shocks them. We are talking about a country that censors porn, remember?

That's how i understood it at least, i don't know.

Yeah, basically Hawk is a giant pervert and has no respect for the sport, that's what pissed Takamura off. He doesn't train and he spends more time screwing around with some women than bothering to even focus on the game, so when he came in and said he came for the delicacy of Japanese women, Takamura was infuriated. Also, it was the disrespect that Hawk showed towards Japan as a nation by saying the only reason he came was to indulge in sexual pleasure of their women. Do also keep in mind Ippo is still 20ish at this point, which puts this about 15 years behind us. Couple this alongside the fact Japan is still a semi-racist nation in the sense that they wish to keep everything internal(their superior genes in particular >:( ), it doesn't help.

In my previous post I mentioned the press conference scene, and this side of Hawk is HUGELY fleshed out there, haha.

Yeah, I think Bakayaro has it right - it's probably a nationalist/racist thing. If Takamura had said those exact same lines, no one would have batted an eyelash.

Takamura actually mad...now there's something new.
I liked how they made Takamura weak this time,
so that next time we can actually see the difference in
a half-@ssed fighter and the true Mr."Ore-sama no punchi wa dainamaitou"
(at least I think that's what the makers were getting at and what I also hope to see).
Can't really argue with Ippo, I do enjoy every episode so...no bad things from me.

But shortly after this episode, Aokimura did say

But in the end, I think they do acknoweledge they are alike, but yes, they won't publicly admit it

as for ippo's age at this point in the anime, he's still 20 (and he's almost 24 in the manga). right now in the anime, it's been almost one year since he beat sendo.

Thanks for the tip off on Ippo's age. It's something I've never been able to keep up with, I think I did the math a month or two back and just forgot all of it, heh.

Yeah about time he crow up.

So if i ever go to Japan i better not say that i like their women because they are gonna get pissed off. Strange because in my country they consider it a compliment.

Anyway the theories that some of you guys said have a point but i have another one about this delicious women thing. Maybe they have a really big problem when a foreigner(especially when he is a big black guy) says something like that because they have a complex on how small there penis is compared to us(maybe they are afraid we are gonna steal their women). Really every time i saw a Jap porn movie or something that showed Japanese men naked i couldn't stop laughing on how small they are down there. And the thing that makes it really funny is not just the size but the fact that the women were screaming and staff, like they were fucked by Godzilla or something. I was wondering how did they even felt anything.

Just wait until the press conference. Hawk will really be a riot.

As for Hawk's skin color, I do agree that he's overly tanned as hell. Then again it's later revealed
That may give some indication about his skin color.

I hope they use his trunks colors from the games and not change them like they did with Arnie and Itagaki.

After that ring-out punch, I was slack-jawed and bug-eyed. Moments like that are the reason I am glad I never read the manga (bigger shocks when they happen in their animated form)

Then, Hawk's racial tendencies just made for even more epicness. Going to a country just for sexual favors of their women... Can't wait to see this guy even more. Im sure he is going to do/say even more things that will provide much shock value. I LOVE IT!

So I guess that this would be Takamura's most difficult fight we've seen yet on the show. His condition was really terrible. The fight itself was nothing special though, which left me a little disappointed. However I really enjoyed that music with the electric guitar that played in the middle of the match! I felt that it really fit with the mood perfectly (Can't say the same for the rest of the music).

Now it wasn't until the end where things actually got a little interesting as *gasp* Brian Hawk is in Japan...in the audience...and looking as arrogant as ever with two girls hanging off of him! I mean my god this guy has got to be the biggest sleezeball ever (and remember....he's American -_- ). I can definitely see how Takamura was motivated by this, so motivated that he actually starts winning his exchanges with West and them KOs him with a ring out!....a freakin ring out!

My favorite part has to be after the match though when Hawk meets with Takamura and says that his favorite food in Japan is Japanese women! I wonder if he'll pay for saying that in the next episode. I also find it interesting that the show made it so we don't actually hear Hawk when he speaks in English, and honestly I think that was a really good move. I'm willing to bet a lot of money that if we did hear him it would be nothing but some of the worst Engrish we've ever heard.

So all in all this episode was alright, but not great. I'll be watching the next episode soon.
