I just updated my old post with this new theatrical release information. It will now be shown in a much wider release of more than 360 theaters.

Seeing Sword of the Stranger in the cinema would be an experience and a half. I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hope it makes it over to the UK... eventually.

Did anyone check this out last night?! I went, and it was my first anime on the big screen. Pretty badass!

Yeah I went. It was the first anime movie I've seen in theaters. I thought the english cast was pretty good. I'm looking forward to seeing it on Blu-ray since my theater didn't have the greatest picture. I think all the theaters were streaming it through Dish Network on a DVR or something.

oh wtf, I feel retarded. I downloaded this and watched it on wednesday. Could have walked down the street and seen it in theaters, apparently.

Ah, but wait... it was dubbed. And I didn't like the movie. And what's up with it airing on a thursday night, that doesn't even make sense. Guess I don't feel too bad.

Does this mean the movie is getting nominated for an Academy Award or something?

I highly doubt it. I thought the movie was okay, but certainly not award worthy (the dub wasn't that bad, except for whoever played the kid). Fathom, the people who put it in the theaters to begin with, also did the same with titles like The Castle of Cagliostro, Death Note (as in the live action movie), and The Conqueror of Shambala. I think they pick movies that are either just coming out stateside, or ones with a huge fanbase. The theater I went to last night was damn near full for a movie that hardly anyone knew was advertised, so they must be doing something right.
