1. The human whose name is written in this notebook shall die.
2. Death will not take effect unless the writer has the victim's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.
3. If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen.
4. If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.
5. Any further details of the death should be written 6 minutes and 40 seconds after the death's cause.
6. If the Death Note touches ground of the human world, it shall be come the property of the human world.
7. The Death Note's original owner, a shinigami (god of death), can be seen and heard by whomever touches the Death Note until one or the other dies.
8. The human who uses the Death Note can neither go to Heaven nor Hell.
9. If a time of death is written 40 seconds after writing the cause of death as a heart attack, it will go into effect 40 seconds after writing the victim's name.
10. If a human uses the Death Note, a shinigami (god of death) usually appears in front of him/her within 39 days after he/she uses the Death Note.
11. A shinigami (god of death) do not, in principle, do anything which will help or prevent the deaths caused by the Death Note.
12. A shinigami (god of death) has no obligation to completely explain how to use the Death Note or rules which will apply to the human who owns it. 13. A god of death can extend his life by putting human names on the note, but humans cannot.
14. A person can kill himself/herself by using the Death Note.
15. The human who becomes the owner of the DEATH NOTE can, in exchange for half of his/her remaining life, be given eyeballs like a shinigami (god of death); this will enable him/her to see a human's name and remaining lifespan (in shinigami time) when looking at them. The owner will only see a person's primary life span in the human world.
16. A shinigami (god of death) cannot be killed by human weapons.
17. The circumstances for death will not be realized unless it is physically possible for the victim. Also, the circumstances must be something that the victim would be reasonably assumed to do.
18. The specific limitations of death circumstances are not known to a shinigami (god of death). Only the user can examine and find out for himself/herself.
19. One page taken from the DEATH NOTE, or even a fragment of the page, contains the full effects of the Death Note.
20. The instrument to write with can be anything-including, but limited to, pens, pencils, cosmetics, blood, etc.-as it can write directly onto the Death Note and remains as legible letters.
21. Even the original owner of the DEATH NOTE, a shinigami (god of death), does not know much about the it.
22. One may write the cause and/or details of death prior to filling in the name of the individual, but they may only wait 19 days (according to the human time). Also, names must be inserted so as to be read before the cause of death.
23. Even if one does not actually possess the whole DEATH NOTE, deaths they write will will take effect.
24. The DEATH NOTE will not affect those under 780 days old.
25. If a person picks up a Death Note in the human world, that person becomes the owner.
26. "Suicide" is a valid cause of death; all humans are thought to possess the possibility to commit suicide.
27. If the cause/circumstance of death is leads to the death of more than the intended, it will be substituted for heart attack.
28. Even after the individual's name, the time of death, and death circumstances were filled out, the time and circumstances can be altered as many times as you want. However, it must be within 6 minutes and 40 seconds from the time it was filled in, and before the victim dies.
29. Whenever you want to change anything written on the DEATH NOTE within 6 minutes and 40 seconds after you wrote it, you must first rule out the characters you want to erase with two straight lines.
30. As you see above, the time and condition of death can be change, but once the victim's name has been written, the individual's death can never be avoided.
31. If you lose the DEATH NOTE or have it stolen, you will lose its ownership unless you retrieve it within 490 days. 32. All human who forfeits/loses ownership of the Death Note will also lose all memories and abilities (including the eye power) gained during ownership. (Memories will be rewritten to account for this.) However, a human cannot regain the half of their life they traded.
32. You may lend the DEATH NOTE to another person while maintaining its ownership. Subletting it to yet another person is possible, too.
33. The borrower of the DEATH NOTE will not be followed by a shinigami (god of death). The shinigami (god of death) always remains with the owner of the DEATH NOTE. Also, the borrower cannot make the "eye deal" with a shinigami (god of death).
34. When the owner of the DEATH NOTE dies while the Death Note is being lent, its ownership will be transferred to the person who is holding it at that time.
35. If the DEATH NOTE is stolen and the owner is killed by the thief, its ownership will automatically be transferred to the thief.
36. When the same name/person is written on more than one DEATH NOTE, the death which was first filled in will take effect, regardless of each death's time.
37. If the same name is written on more than one DEATH NOTE within a 0.06-second time difference, death(s) will not take effect and the individual will not die.
38. The shinigami (god of death) must own at least one DEATH NOTE. That DEATH NOTE must never be lent to or written on by a human.
39. Exchanging and writing on the DEATH NOTE between the gods of death is no problem.
40. A shinigami (god of death) can kill one human to save an individual (s)he favors killed by the first human. However, the shinigami will die, and its lifespan will be added to the individual's. The dead shinigami will disappear, but the DEATH NOTE will remain. The ownership of this DEATH NOTE is usually carried over to the next shinigami who touches it, but it is common sense to return the Death Note the King shingami.
42. If a human who owns a Death Note touches another human's Death Note, they can see and hear the other human's shinigami (god of death).
43. An individual with the eye power of a shinigami (god of death) can see the name and life span of other humans by looking at that person's face. By possessing the DEATH NOTE, an individual gains the ability to kill and stops being a victim. From this point, a person with the DEATH NOTE cannot see the life span of other DEATH NOTE owners, including him/herself. But, it is not really necessary for the individual to view the lifespan of himself/herself nor other DEATH NOTE owners.
44. The shinigami (god of death) must not tell humans the names or life spans of individuals he sees.
45. If a DEATH NOTE exists in the human world, a living shinigami (god of death) must ensure that it is being used by the human(s).
46. It is very difficult to kill a shinigami (god of death) who has chosen to watch a human. However, if he should die, the DEATH NOTE that he brought into the human world will not lose its power.
47. In order to see the names and life spans of humans by using the eye power of a shinigami (god of death), the user must look at more than half of that person's face. When looking from top to bottom, he must look at least from the head to the nose. If he looks at only the eyes and under, he will not be able to see the person's name and life span. Also, even though some parts of the face-e.g. the eyes, nose, or mouth-are hidden, (s)he will be able to see the person's name and life span if he can basically see the whole face. It is still not clear how much exposure is needed to tell the name and life span, and this needs to be verified. If above conditions are met, names and life span can be seen through photos and pictures, no matter how old they are. But this is sometimes influenced by the vividness and size. Also, names and life spans cannot be seen by face drawings, however realistic they may be.
48. Those with the eye power of a shinigami (god of death) will have the eyesight of over 20/10 (feet) in the human measurement, regardless of their original eyesight.
49. Whenever a human who owns more than one DEATH NOTE loses ownership/possession of a DEATH NOTE, he will not be able to see or hear that DEATH NOTE's original owner (a shinigami). The shinigami (god of death) will leave, but all the memory involving that DEATH NOTE will remain as long as the human maintains ownership of at least one other DEATH NOTE.
50. A shinigami (god of death) must not stay in the human world without a particular reason. These reasons may include: When the shinigami (god of death)'s DEATH NOTE is handed to a human; when a god of death stalks an individual with an intention to kill them, as long as it is within 82 hours of haunting them.
51. Essentially, finding a human to pass the Death Note on to should be done from the shinigami world. However, if it is conducted within 82 hours, it may also be done in the human world.
52. A shinigami (god of death) must not hand the DEATH NOTE directly to a child under 6 years of age (based on the human time).
53. DEATH NOTES that have been dropped into the human world, and are part of the human world, can be used by humans of any age. All the same effects and rules apply.
54. If you just write, "die of accident" for the cause of death, the victim will die from a natural accident after 6 minutes and 40 seconds from the time of writing it.
55. If you write "die of disease" with a specific disease's name and the person's time of death, there must be a sufficient amount of time for the disease to progress. If the set time is too tight, the victim will die of a heart attack within 6 minutes and 40 seconds after writing.
56. If you write "die of disease" for the cause of death, but only write a specific time of death without the actual name of disease, the human will die from an adequate disease.
57. The a date of death written in the Death Note can be within 23 days after the death was written (in human time). This is called "the 23-day rule".
58. If you write "die of disease" with a specific disease's name, but without a specific time, death may take 24 days to be completed; the 23-day rule will not apply.
59. You cannot kill humans at the age of 124 and over with the DEATH NOTE.
60. You cannot kill humans with less than 12 minutes of life left (in human calculations).
61. The names you see with the eye power of a god of death are the names needed to kill people. You will be able to see the name(s) even if that person isn't registered in the family registration.
62. The DEATH NOTE will never run out of pages.
63. If someone possesses more than one DEATH NOTE, they write down the name and cause in each DEATH NOTE. If they do this while visualizing the victim, it will take effect. The order, however, is unimportant; if you write down the cause of death in one DEATH NOTE and afterwards, write the name in the other, it will still take effect. This can also be accomplished by two DEATH NOTE owners working together. In this case, it's necessary that the two touch each other's DEATH NOTEs.
64. The owner of the DEATH NOTE cannot be killed by a shinigami (god of death) who is living in the shinigami world.
65. If a shinigami (god of death) comes to the human world simply to kill the owner of a DEATH NOTE, the shinigami will not be able to do so.
66. Only a shinigami (god of death) who has passed on their DEATH NOTE to a human is able to kill an owner of a DEATH NOTE.
67. If a DEATH NOTE owner accidentally misspells a name four times, the written death will not take effect. However, if the owner intentionally misspells the name four times, the owner will die. Also, the person whose name was misspelled four times on purpose can still be killed if a Death Note owner follows the rules. 68. Lost memories will return just by touching the DEATH NOTE. In cases where you were involved with other DEATH NOTEs as will, memories of all the DEATH NOTEs involved will return.
69. You will lose memory of the DEATH NOTE when losing its ownership. However, you can regain this memory by either regaining the ownership or touching the DEATH NOTE. This can be done up to 6 times per DEATH NOTE. If the 6 times are exceeded, the person's memory of the DEATH NOTE will not return when touching it. Thus, if they regain ownership, they will have to use it with out any previous memory of it.
70. After a human makes the eye deal, they will not be influenced by the DEATH NOTE. Also, if the victim is killed using the DEATH NOTE, the remaining life span of that victim will be provided to the god of death.
71. Humans that have traded for the eye power of a god of death cannot see the name or life-span of humans who have already passed away by looking at their photos.
72. If a shinigami (god of death) dies in the human world, a Death Note it leaves behind will become part of the human world. However, in this case, only the human who picks up the Death Note first can see and touch the DEATH NOTE. Lastly, though it is very unlikely, a shinigami (god of death) who picks up a DEATH NOTE in the human world will become the Death Note's owner.
73. There are male and female gods of death, but it is neither permitted nor possible for them to have sexual relations with humans; gods of death also cannot have sex with each other.
74. Names written in the DEATH NOTE cannot be erased (by human means).
75. The use of the Death Note in the human world sometimes affects other human's lives or shortens their original life-span, even though their names are not actually written in the Death Note itself. In these cases, no matter the cause, the god of death sees only the original life-span and no the shortened life-span.
76. If a Death Note is owned in the human world against a shinigami (god of death)'s wishes, that god of death is permitted to stay in the human world in order to retrieve it.
77. A shinigami (god of death) cannot reveal the owner or location of Death Notes in the human world. The only exception to this is when a shinigami is trying to retrieve its own Death Note.
78. If the Death Note that a shinigami (god of death) god of death owns is taken away (by being cheated by other gods of death and so forth), it can only be retrieved from the god of death who is possessing it at the time. If a human possesses it, there is only one way that the god of death can retrieve his/her Death Note: (s)he must be the first to touch the Death Note and become the god of death that haunts that human. Then, they can only take the Death Note if that human dies or forfeits the Death Note.
79. As long as a shinigami (god of death) has at least once seen a human's face, name, and life-span, the shinigami (god of death) is capable of finding that human via a hole in the shinigami realm.
80. There are laws in the world of gods of death. If a god of death should break the law, punishments have 9 levels of severity. The main levels start at Level 8 and go up to Level 1. The is also a final, Extreme Level. For severity levels above 3, a shinigami (god of death) will be killed after being punished.
81. Killing a human without using the Death Note warrants an Extreme Level punishment.
82. Losing memory of the DEATH NOTE will only occur when the owner actually kills someone using that DEATH NOTE. You will not lose memory of the DEATH NOTE, if you merely owned it and had not written anyone's name. However, you still won't be able to see or hear the shinigami (god of death), and you will still lose the eye power if you traded for it.
83. The god of death will not die from lack of sleep. Moreover, gods of death do not really need sleep. The meaning of sleep for gods of death is different from that of humans and is essentially laziness.
84. Gods of death who are living in the human world and have passed on their DEATH NOTE shouldn't be lazy; they are required to see/verify the death of the human who owns their Death Note.
85. Only 6 DEATH NOTEs should exist at a time in the human world. Of course, the DEATH NOTEs owned exclusively shinigamis (gods of death) don't not count.
86. Only 6 gods of death who have passed on their DEATH NOTE to humans can stay in the human world.
87. One shinigami (god of death) is only allowed to pass on DEATH NOTEs to 3 humans at a time.
88. It is possible for a single god of death to hand out up to 6 DEATH NOTEs to 3 humans or less.
89. In the event that there are more than 6 DEATH NOTEs in the human world, only the first 6 DEATH NOTEs that have been delivered to humans will take effect.
90. A seventh DEATH NOTE in the human world will not become active until one of the other 6 DEATH NOTEs is removed from the human world.
91. A Death Note and/or its pages can be destroyed by fire.
