Interesting. So Kiyoko and Tatsuya have to work for the Countess against Gilgamesh now. I'm interested to see how this turns out, its a very good anime so far.

Hmm, well its definitely captivating, the fact that you are left with the question of who is bad and who is good keeps your interests high. Will Kiyoko and Tatsuya meet their father? I sure hope they do it soon, seems interesting to hear his explanation on the reason why he tried to destroy the world. =D

Still with all the action it's still really boring... except the end action was slightly interesting but still the setting is so boring that I'm forcing my self to watch this...

But I'll keep watching this as it might be interested after this slow and boring introduction of everything! You never know!

Seems more like the Gilgamesh are the demons and that the Countess's lot are like the Gods among men. I like it, it's interesting. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it on here.

I wonder where the story will take the main characters, and whose side will they ultimately join. Though I gotta admit the Gilgamesh faction really have the edge in numbers and costume designs, I just gotta have one. The English Dub by ADV is just great with a talented voice cast all round, the Countess' voice actor just nail's the role.

I'm watching it subbed and there are plenty of familiar voices so with hearing then you could vaguely conjecture what will happen next and their true characters. Also I liked the statement about Evil...

Ok, this episode gave a bit more context. Seems like nothing special so far, but there gotta be more to it.

When you read the comments sometimes you really ask yourselves if you've seen the same thing. Yeah, the production values are crap and this looks super old and maybe even dated, but the directing is top notch and the setting feels ominous. We get just enough info to keep us guessing but not enough to put all pieces together. It's a slow burn to be sure and perhaps that's why I'm digging. If you love Texhnolyze, Ergo Proxy and the like...this is for you

That henchmen yelling at them to shut up and then calmly adding that that's what his boss told him to say was funny. Also, liked the lady's line about true devils playing God by calling others devils.

EDIT: It's also amusing how the translation of "to be continued" was done literally word-for-word in French for the end of the episodes.

@Farabeuf Yours was the only comment I read and luckily I agree with everything. Modern anime may have better production value, but I miss the days where anime had the sort of visuals that "Gilgamesh" does. I don't mind if it looks dated and don't care if the animation may not be amazing when the atmosphere is as palpable as it is here in this series. Also reminds me of the 2000 "Boogiepop Phantom" anime (and I did enjoy "Texhnolyze" and "Ergo Proxy," so makes sense I've been into what I've seen of "Gilgamesh" so far.)

@bucciest Agree. That's why I take all the scores of anime made before 2010 with a massive grain of salt. People see hand drawn or grainy animation and immediately BAD without taking the context into account.

Hope you enjoy the series. It's no masterpiece but certainly worth a watch if one digs atmospheric brooding stuff.

@Farabeuf Exactly! More specifically, scores for anime from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s cannot be trusted from my experience. I haven't seen as much as I should have, but what I have continually makes me think that the aesthetic and atmosphere of stuff from those decades are on another level. Modern anime either looks too refined or lacks personality even if the animation may be better. It'd be nice to have both, but if I have to choose, I really appreciate an anime that looks and feels like its own unique thing.

I realize I forgot to touch on your original point about "Gilgamesh" being a slow burn. I've indeed enjoyed what I've watched so far and that includes the storytelling as part of the reason. The other Shoutarou Ishinomori series ("Skull Man") that I saw I hadn't enjoyed as much as I wanted to, so I should try to not have high expectations, but it's pleasantly surprising to watch an anime that is taking its time to tell me its story and actually feels intentional like it knows what direction it wants to take. That slowness also complements everything else, atmospheric brooding and all.

EDIT: Then again, if it was the norm for anime to look the way it does back then it's not accurate to say that they were doing their own thing, but I still wish some modern anime could resemble those visuals - especially for series where they'd benefit from it.
