There has never been a more epic anime. Throughout this whole series I thought that this is an amazing anime indeed, but it does not surpass Neon Genesis Evangelion. I had believe that something surpassing Evangelion is an impossibility. This episode, this amazing finale has just kicked reason to the curb and done the impossible.

Never will an anime this amazing ever appear again.

To be honest, evangelion bored and depressed the crap out of me, so I found this series to be incredibly more fun and entertaining to watch. difference between a 5 and a 10... but to each his own; Im glad an evangelion fan could find enjoyment in this series.
evangelion and rahxephon tried too hard. although the endings for both are not bad(eva, the movie ending). both shows aimed for selflessness and happiness in the end that they forgot to make it as epic as this one. hey eva is from gainax, figuratively they are family so im sure they'll tweak somethings for the last eva movie coming in the future.

I dislike when people say they hated the ending; almost all the people I talk to on AIM said they hated it, but~~~~

Simon had to seal his spiral power :3 His rate of evolution was too dangerous for the universe. The power to evolve and bring about off spring - that is why he married Nia before she was gone ; ; It would have been too dangerous; and that is why he wasn't piloting GL at the end.

I find it very romantic ; ;

Wow, that was mindblasting...its not like I didnt know that cause they mention somewhat of it during the scene when the anti-spiral told that to simon and the others, but when i read your comment i was like "wtf? ohh yeah!!"

maybe thats why he's wandering earth, didnt want to be like another Lord Genome.

From the beginning to the end, this show was amazing, except for my. Nia. I really wish that she didn't have to go.

I'm really not one to enjoy bittersweet endings either, but I suppose this will have to do. To be honest, I went through the first 2-3 episodes thinking I was going to see something completely overrated, and I'm pleasantly surprised to see that I was very, very wrong.

I was hoping for more to tack onto the story for the two upcoming movies, but it seems their just going to recaps.

- Lol more Dragon Ball Z actions again.
- More Kamehameha.
- More Robotic Super Saiyan transformations.
- More "random Street Fighter combo moves lolol"
- Helix King = Freezer in DBZ XD
- Again, all the cheap, cheesy and nonsense talks.
- All the brainless support characters plus one "Superhero - I'm Songoku" Simon... in "God-mode"... LOL

- And lol at the end Roshiu turns into an old ****tard, same as Simon. And Yoko, aw :( how come you let that magnificient body go to waste T_T... )

OMG there's no words to describe how childish this series is. It's sickening. I regretted listening to all those recommendations and believing so much in that 9.01 rating, lol. However, look at all the kids in this thread, going "OMG ITS SO FREAKING AWESOME!" and "TRULY EPIC QQ I REALLY CRIED"... or "ZOMG BEST ANIME SERIES EVER EVER!!!1111one"

It makes me laugh out loud XD. Truly expected from such a niche of audience. No surprise here.

Graphic: Oh Gawd! My eyes!
Sound: Bad music. That is all.
Story: GG classic.
Characters: PainS in the ass. All of them. Except Kamina.

To sum up in 1 word: SUPER CHEESY !

Best character in the series: Kamina
2nd-best character: Maybe, just MAYBE, Viral.
3rd-best character: Gaylord Leeron
Runner-up: Yoko (Thanks the boobs and all the fanservice you have provided, Yoko, I love you!)

TTGL actually should have had 8 episodes only. After the death of Kamina everything turns from bad to worse.

I'll give it a 7/10 in overall. And that's with too much mercy already.

GG... so much for a 9.01 rating series ! Disappointed. Truly, disappointed !

Again, why is it that people who like it all of a sudden are kids? I don't give a cake whether you like it or not, but it's definitely a shade more childish to make generalizations on such flimsy things such as "liking" than giant mecha with phallic drills throwing galaxies could ever be.

And a seven is... well, "good". You patently didn't think this series was good.

Obviously you don't get some of the more in-depth concepts behind TTGL. Also, I find it shocking how you can call some of the people here kids when you love an anime like DBZ so much. Of course, it's a good anime. But it is definitely an anime for kids, not for more mature audiences.

Did you even watch the whole series, or did you actually think Kamina was cooler than Simon in the end? Simon ended up being so much more badass in the end.

Not only that, but you have to come into this anime looking for a lighthearted good time, not some plot-intensive well organized anime. It's just a hell of a lot of fun to watch this anime, and truly thats what anime should be all about. Thats why we watch it, right? Its enjoyable. I understand if you didnt enjoy the anime, but it sounds like you didnt appreciate the true beauty of TTGL which was that it doesnt have much of a point. its like solidified epic.

A remarkably bitter-sweet ending for what was otherwise a very heart-warming show. This was a series that accomplished something: It made me smile. Constantly. I felt it was missing something though, but I can't quite put my finger on it. I give it an 8/10.
Your search on "Oran Solus" returned the following quotes:
"Oran Solus? I know him. What a wanker. He still owes me a tenner." Oscar Wilde
"Oran, you're so intelligent and awesome <3" Bakayaro
"Oran's sexy." LolitaDecay
"Oran is a sophisticated penguin." Drybananna
"Oran is a Hand-Eye you faggots." EddieSpaghetti
"Oran for Prime Minister." the_prime_one
"Oran is all that is stated in his sig and more." orbitzz

This anime series is a rehash of Mobile Fighter G Gundam. Same type of ending except with a poor attempt at a bittersweet ending.

5/10
No originality but it's probably one of the only anime series that came out in the last three years and managed to triumph its mediocre competition. It definitely does not deserve a place in the all time greats (Ghost in the Shell, Hajime no Ippo, etc.)

It didn't revive anything. "Oldschool" mecha shows get made several times every year and always have, Gurren Lagann was one of four of those kind of series made in 2007. As for originality, it recycles a LOT of scenes and ideas from other shows, especially Ken Ishikawa's works... which I found a bit disrespectful and disappointing really.

That would make TTGL unoriginal then since it's rehashing the same material.

A 7/10 for NGE does not mean I didn't like it. NGE is completely original and a breakthrough anime series for its genre and anime itself. The plot was poor so I docked 3 points off.

It's a great starter anime. It's inevitable that its originality is going to be put under the spotlight since it's one of the highest ranked series out there. It even rivals Ruroni Kenshin's OVA's. It's not the best anime series out there but it's definitely one of the best anime series produced in 2007. Nothing more, nothing less.

It deserves a 9/10 if only anime series in the past two years are considered. It definitely does not earn a 9/10 when compared to every single anime series ever made. The only reason it got such a high rating is because majority of the audience have not experienced what anime series with extremely high production values (ala Ghost in the Shell, Spirited Away, etc.).

I agree with you on that last point, and I am going to watch ghost in the shell soon. however, I've seen spirited away (I mean, who hasnt?) and frankly I liked TTGL a lot better than that movie.

We only disagree because we want two different things when watching an anime. I want an anime that has some form of realism whether it be a fatal flaw in the main character that I can connect to and can also be respected in reality by anyone. Gurren Lagann was more of a "Being reckless and following your heart is what a man should do" motto really irritated me to no end. I wouldn't have minded if the character was fundamentally flawed but instead, the two main protagonists are either too dense to consider other people's feelings or too "whiny" and emotionally weak (Read: Shinji from NGE) to even be considered a flaw.

yeah shinji annoys the shit out of me...

and I do agree that its fun when the main char has flaws, but its also fun to watch an anime where everyone has NO FLAWS AND KICKS ASS EVEN WHILE UNCONSCIOUS

I really hate it when people talk about bullshit like "a man's soul".
In fact this sort of talk is why I'm starting to develop a grudge against Gurren Lagann.
I really don't want to hate Gurren Lagann. I enjoyed watching it. But if this keeps up, I'm going to change my rating from an 8 to a 1.
