So I've been following Girls und Panzer and a common theme I found talking with other fans of the series is what's your favorite tank? I personally didn't really have a favorite but I decided to pick one to answer the question haha. xD

What's your favorite tank? =O And do you have any experience with tanks in RL?
Here's my answer: Hmmm =O I actually don't know tanks very well. I just like watching military stuff I. xD Hmm...if I had to pick a favorite.... it'd probably be one of the German tanks, mainly just from the look...and probably watching Band of Brother's but mostly Kelly's Heroes. I guess my favorite would be the Panzer VI Tiger. The main reason for me, is just the influence of movies. To me, a tank is something that should scare the crap outta the guy on the ground. From movies and just the way it looks, I think Tiger fits that role the best.

I've never been on the shooting end of a tank but I have from LAV's and it definitely is an intimidating experience. We were actually doing some training on Camp Pendleton during a summer exercise and we were pretending to be the EOD. I was the driver of the HMMVW. Well, I guess the LAV platoon wanted to have fun with us because they basically pretended we were the enemy as I was trying to drive through them on the highway lol. They all started aiming their turrets and sat staggered on the road so I couldn't drive straight through but zig-zag through them. The last LAV decided to be more aggressive and revved like they were gonna run over me if I tried passing them. I looked at my Master Gunnery Sgt, and he just shook his head and said, "Dicks." xD

I would say being deployed with LAVs was definitely really reassuring. When we went on convoys I felt so much safer. Just from knowing what they were capable of doing and have done to the enemy that tried to ambush one of our intel units that went to follow a lead. Being on the muzzle end though.....not fun. xD Hearing the sound of 3 round 20mm HE rounds go off and two M240 is like comfort food. Soothes the soul.

I agree with your Choice of the Panzer VI tiger. I agree with you purely by what I've read in the history books. As far as fear factor, fire power and how it was utilized it's definitely one of the greats. If I had to choose purely from an innovative and easy of production stand point I would have to go with the Russian T-34 because they were easy as hell to make and they were thee first tanks to utilized the slanted armor. Of course when faced with the German tiger they were screwed. The T-34 was only able to gain ground purely because they were able to make so many in such a short time.

On a different note, I to have never Been on the receiving end of one. God only knows I don't want to either. I have witnessed a couple of M-1 Abrams in passing when I was in my first pump to Afghan and they are pretty intimidating. Just the sheer size, sound, and the way they look make you whisper a silent thank you to God that your not on the other end of the things when they are angry. Although, I have heard the short burst of machine gun fire from a couple of A-10 Warthogs when I was in Marjah. I can tell you that they don't leave much the imagination when you're coming to the conclusion about what's happening on the other end.

Great topic! Let me add my two cents worth: M88 the largest tracked vehicle on the battlefield then the Israeli Super Sherman and tho this is not a tracked vehicle it is one of my favorite: the Stryker, saved our asses a couple of times in Iraq.

Never really thought about it, but if I really had to choose, it would be a toss-up between four, the Mark XX(DNE), Mark XXIII(NKE), SheVa 9, or Leona's "Bonaparte".

@skybluemalibu_67: Gotta love the flying tank: A-10 Warthog. The only plane ever design and built around a gun.
@Orlah: Bonaparte, isn't that from Tank Girl? If so, pick a REAL TANK, LOLOLOLOL ( I don't know about the other ones)

@Antalk; They are truly a sight to behold. My grandfather, AF Pararescue in Vietnam, knows a couple of guys who used to fly those things. They told him that they fire in short bursts because if the trigger is held down for too long the gun will literally push the plane backwards.

Ooooh! I ought to have clicked the other button next to "Quote" and reported your tail to Xinil for that one. Shame! SHAME, I SAY UNTO THEE!!! Go forth and restudy thy Shirow, sinner! And appear not before me until thou hast repented from thy heretical and blasphemous ways!

@ skyblue - not so much push the plane backwards as it causes it to stop in mid-air and regardless of how good a glide slope an airplane has, the removal of lift from the wings is a VERY BAD THING! Something one tries their damnedest to avoid doing for it causes ones vehicle to fall out the sky. And since the reason you used that massive implement of destruction recently to destroy the bad peoples toys, they are, somewhat understandably mind you, going to be somewhat irked with you. And will probably perform many surgical procedures upon your body without the benefit of any kind of anesthesia.

WWII the Sherman was a good steady tank as where most of the Panzers I like the Abrams M1 in modern times and I agree with Antalk A-10's are sweet as well as the AH-64 Apache which has just about the same role as the A-10.
