THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This is quite ordinary, we don't really have any major developments yet. It seems that Touya isn't having a lot of screentime until the very end but I don't think the episode will be better even if he did. Hopefully the next one will be a lot more interesting.

There is some big problems in this episode. First it is a major breakdown of Yuki with Rina. It looked really bad as a breakdown and I have not seen Yuki like that. The conversation in the restaurant did reveal what was said in the first season between Rina and Yuki during the first recording of Yuki to motivate her into recording her first song. Also Yuki does not know that the truth about the letter and that shows in Rina's surprise. Yuki also cried more in the restaurant. Yayoi got paranoid around the picture thing again but the guy looked like the wrong guy so I wonder where did the flash come from? Very emotional drama with Haruka/Mana in the Echoes cafe about her brother. Haruka/Mana cried both together, O_O another surprise that I did not even think would come and felt really bad during that part. Akira admiting Misaki being his girlfriend was a good sign to me. The contract thing between Kanzaki and Eiji looked very important if the money involved is 1 000 000 000 yen and that is about 10 000 000 USA dollars/7 000 000 Euros. So it looks to be lots of money involved. Was impressed that Touya went to see his father and avoided Yayoi. Too bad Eiji's little precious painting got painted with some red paint. It looked like Eiji was impresed with Menou's assistant from how he looked at her. Why did Touya even laugh like a idiot when Mana told him about Haruka? It looked stupid to me. At the end I was so shocked by what is happening with Rina through the radio announcement. Whatever it is it looks a big event concerning Rina since it was announced at the radio. This is getting better with more drama. Things are moving a lot more around.

The relationship between Rina and Yuki isnt quite that simple and theres definitive no major breakdown or etc. It shouldnt be regarded only by the look of it.
a great part of the reasons why Rina quits the company, I believe, is actually to help Yuki, to help her to gain success on her own. because when I watched the caffee scene( convo between yuki and rina), i realized just how much yuki depends on rina. Yuki's character is a new, warmhearted and very very innocent pop-star comparing to Rina. She understands little from the business and is heavily dependent on Eiji and Rina and also everyone else around her. She trusts anyone without even doubting and this can be fatal to her future career, thus why Rina leaving her would help her to gradually stand on her own.

I think i didnt quite get the business about that contract.(need rewatch sometime) What i heard was the woman was trying to get back the painting but Eiji wouldnt, so she tried to buy it, for 1 000 000 000 yen. Eiji said he would love to, but its too late already.

"Too bad Eiji's little precious painting got painted with some red paint."
He painted "FAKE" over it~

"Why did Touya even laugh like a idiot when Mana told him about Haruka's crying? It looked stupid to me."
Indeed he is stupid. This show loves to portray him like an idiot~

"At the end I was so shocked by what is happening with Rina through the radio announcement ..."
It only announced Rina has switched her company...

Overall another great ep, cant wait for more ~

This show isnt a story about Touya and his "harem" love-story(even though it might appear to be so...), but it is a show about the story how Yuki becomes an idol. since touya her lover has major influence upon Yuki, every character who affects Touya is portrayed in detail as well. So i see nothing wrong with Touya having no screentime from time to time~ :-)

ps: and some more about Rina and Yuki: I think their relationship can be seen as a normal friend-, and a mother/daughter relationship. This would be reflected by the OP animation, which i find truly great. (best op this season btw :-) )

But Yuki cried because she was afraid that Rina would leave her or she cried because she never wanted to be alone? Thanks for explanation vinesage, it helped to confirm that Yuki is way too independent. The scene just confirmed that with her breakdown. She looked like she was collapsing with the way she was crying twice.

For this much money for a painting looks ridiculous.

Great episode. Things are a little more straight forward compared to how they were in the first season.

We learned what Rina really said to Yuki while she was recording her song. Yuki really is too dependent on others, she needs to grow up.

Seems like both Haruka and Mana love Touya. I think Mana knew Touya to some degree from high school.

With regards to Menou, that other girl has been writing all of her songs all along. Kanzaki sure is daft sometimes. Eiji immediately knew something more was going on with the girl. I also think Menou is Mana's sister.

Touya is still an idiot. I really hope his father guides him out of this rut while he still can. I think he hasn't been the best of fathers so it would be nice if he helped his son out a little.

And should Touya redeem himself, he really needs to start soon. He's got a long way to go, heh.

GIMME SOME MOARRRRRR MENOU, DAMMIT!!! Seriously, what's the point of creating her character when she only appeared in the ending? And hope that fatass Hiiragi got caught soon since I don't wanna have some disgusting stalker in this show, go fap to your porn mags and leave Yayoi alone already...*sigh*

And that was some expensive painting!!! 0-o 1,000,000,000?!!! Either by yen or $, that was damn high for a mere painting that I can find anywhere on e-bay...

Also, I guess I'm the only one here who LOL'ed when Yukki was on stage and sang? Or maybe I just got fed up with the famous VA who wore her bikini upside down, Aya Hirano?

Last but not least,...

Hmmm, only thing I can really comment is the "FAKE" thing.

To me the painting seemed to represent his sister Rina. She always played the role of the dutiful sister helping out at her brother's label and pretty much doing everything she was asked. However, the perfect image Eiji had of Rina was shattered with her rebellion and subsequent transfer to another production group.

So yeah, that's about all that could come to my head about the FAKE thing.

After taking a look at it a second time, I think the contract now is a fake and a setup is coming. Already Kanzaki, got Eiji's studio and Rina's changed company officially being announced at the end in a hotel conference. Once again Touya was foolish for two reasons this time: 1.Still thinking he cannot do anything for Morikawa and 2. For laughing that Haruka cannot become jealous.

Weird episode. Kanzaki's plot to extort Eiji is a strange devleopment, Touya now seems to feel a little guilty about how he has treated Yuki, Rina spills some of her motivation while seemingly holding back some sort of animosity for Yuki (this goes back to the guilt thing I was talking about), and the pressure's getting to Yayoi.

Most interesting was the catharsis with Mana and Haruka, and Mana saying what everyone thinks--It's impossible for a man to be so thickheaded like this.

I disagree that this show is about Yuki. We only get a sense of her character in her interactions with Touya and Rina. Touya is the focus of this show because he is the center of most of the plot. In some respects, I think that this episode needed to happen because Yuki has been in the background for a lot of the series and hasn't developed at all. Hopefully this will be a jump off point for her.

I agree with Meddigo about the painting being about Rina, though I disagree with the reasons. I think it more has to do with Rina's lack of earnestness and wanting to quickly cater to his demands despite her talent. Then, here comes Yuki who is arguably less talented, greener, and more open. I think Eiji is captivated by that, and no longer trusts his process with Rina. Eiji's been casting Rina aside for a long time, and I think he would have asked her to step back on this competition once again. Rina couldn't take it and that's why she cut to the chase without hearing some empty speech from her brother.

If my memory served me right, I think he did mention it last time that the picture look similar to his mother somehow. So I don't think your comment is really the case.

I do think that the way that Eiji treated this painting is very similar to the way he treats Rina. This obsessive idolization, and subsequent disaffected possessiveness.

Well, I do misunderstand Meddigo in his comment a little right there. But I do agree that Eiji treated Rina and the painting in a very similar way. There is something really interesting happened in this episode when Eiji saw the little girl who is with Menou. It seems to me that he is already started to have his eyes on something new other than Yuki. To me, Eiji is like a person who wishes to get something once he wanted but once he get his hand on it he starts to feel dissatisfy with it and begin to look for another new thing.

He did treat at first as his mom and then decide not to anymore. Does this mean he hates his mom somehow? Why would he treat Rina so bad after spending a certain time with her in the first season until he gave up on her this season. He said he never knew his mother, right? So I think this has to do with a lot of his issues viewing women.
As for Rina, I think he was growing tired of her in the first season, and it finally came to a head last week. As for how he sees Menou, I totally agree with the thought that he sees her as a shiny new toy. It's very, very immature, and almost mentally unbalanced about him. He's the most unpredictable character in this show aside from Touya, but I think Eiji is meant to be that way, whereas Touya is a victim of bad writing.

I suspect the contract was a fake or a bluff. They mention in the car "What do we do if he tries to return it? We'll have to cry and beg on our knees". I suspect the painting was a fake and Eiji noticed it. The contract is probably referring to the real one.

I'm pretty happy with this episode. Like last episode Touya is trying to sort out his feelings for Yuki and all the other girls he's messed with. If he doesn't make a choice to be with Yuki soon then he's probably going to end up alone.

As expected the new girl and her friend are the new rivals. I still cant wait to see all three compete for the spot light (Yuki, Rina, and the new girl). Eiji looks like he already knows the friend is actually the one writing the music and lyrics. I wonder if he'll try and recruit her ;).

And again it's apparent that Yayoi cant stay in one place by herself. If she does she grows paranoid and scared. I wanna see her brake down and call Touya a bunch of times like a killer :D.

Yeah that was surprising of Touya to react like that but he is realizing. Do you think it is a good sign he might be maturing or his father made him realize it?

Yuki was willing to quit to keep Rina from quitting?O.o Not a good idea. Still, if they switched like that, Yuki would 1. have ruined her career and 2. get more time to spend with Touya, which in turn might technically make Touya quit on being such a jerk.
Still, that won't happen, so w/e

So all of Touya's friends are about to find out about Touya's affair with Yayoi? Or at least it seems like it could come up at any moment now..
Oh seriously I get annoyed at the awkward situations Touya will no doubt get into..
And what the heck's up with Haruka and Mana yelling at each other while crying?

The strangest thing about this anime, is that I find every new episode more and more interesting, and I also find myself more and more hoping for something School Day-ish in the end .

With the way things are going right now, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Rina continue being the queen of music while Yuki just return to being a normal girl at the end since Rina does put in a lot more effort into her career (as evident from the concert she had) than Yuki.

The contract for the painting is fake. Eiji knows the painting is fake. It was even written on the painting, so I don't know why he is still going through with the deal. Touya is having flashbacks. It's just what his father said a few episodes ago. He said that it all comes together when you have an event. You have fragments of memories, then you recall all of them when something unexpected happens. That's why he's recalling memories of Yuki and Haruka. This is probably a foreshadow. I'm expecting something bad to happen to Yuki, Haruka, or Touya.

What the hell is so important about that painting? My guess it was Rina who put that red pain all over it. A way to show how pissed off she is by her brother. Or the painting was really fake and he did that. Who knows.
