THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Dang, way too rushed.

I've read manga beforehand and was quite disappointed with this adaptation. They've basically recut, partly modified and fit 2 volumes into one movie (about 800 pages, sic!). Character development is almost non-existant, visuals are average and sound design isn't anything spectacular.

Frankly, I will be surprised if they manage to finish this adaptation, unless they cut and modify even more.

Sad panda gives 6+/-1 /10 , 1 being modifier for people unfamiliar with the manga. Some won't notice the absurd face, some will have a big wtf face at the end of this movie.

Recut or modify is fine, but they did not put their timeline correctly.
With Chapra part and Shaka Kingdom end together, it would mess up Tatta & Migaila part.

Me myself was satisfied enough because of 2 thing, to see one of Osamu Tezuka work be animated and Buddha's story be animated (well a bit reiligious).

Basically, we are trolled again by toei, like they did to many other anime. (Xros Hunter for example).

Well I'm quite disappointed with this movie.
I don't know about the manga but what they did here isn't anything spectacular at all.
The chara design was nice but everything else was average if not maybe the music.
Everything just seemed like a successions of subplots cooked up to make the audience cry...

I vaguely remember reading the first part of the manga more than half a decade ago so I was glad this was adapted into anime but after watching this, I was a bit underwhelmed. I was still entertained though. 7/10
You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,
Coz he's right here! ...and he's fresh out of mercy.

Haven't read the manga but I thought this movie was decent.I ignored some historical inaccuracies and enjoyed it as a work of fiction.
Too bad the sub/raw for the sequel will never show up on the internet :(
Always interesting to see works like this animated.

A bit rushed, and weak introduction to the characters; lacks good music, and the animations weren't very good, but still great movie.

I can believe how a great manga has an extremely poor adaptation. Totally deceptioned.

To me it started off great with Chapra making his name for himself and breaking out of slavery, Tatta living with Chapra's mother and the monk. Okay it was the birth of Siddhartha and he wanted peace, so he sought to know the outside world to gain perspective. But his companion was captured then taken her eyesight. While Chapra grown now he became a general and a noble. But things became boring and very disappointing when they went tragic route with no sense in mind, Chapra getting stabbed with a poisonous arrow then got killed after being saved by his mother, Tatta and the now crazy monk.

I didn't get why include these characters if they are not going to use them well. Siddhartha's sudden departure in the end to the rest of the world didn't even provide interest as it had no purpose for whatsoever. Killing Chapra and his mother was a very cheap sentimental drive and totally killed the movie for me. The meeting also of Chapra and Siddhartha, I thought it would be significant but damn was it damp.

They should've stuck with one plot either with Chapra rising to the top to create that inspirational story or stuck with Siddhartha's story of trying to find peace and ending wars around the world. But they mixed stories which weren't a match and did badly to match them. What about Tatta, I believe he had potential since he was able to transfer his soul to the animals, he would've made a great story but no they incorporated nonsense.

6/10.
