Chapter 1 - Memories

It’s a beautiful spring day. Leaves are blooming into beautiful white
blossoms and the grass is packed full of dandelions. The view from the roof
of my school is quite amazing. I come here to think about things. Like how
my ex-girlfriend Crystal is going out with my best friend Derek. Crystal and I
have been friends since we were four. Our parents were business partners
so me and her ended up hanging out a lot. She would always urge me to do
rash things. She is one of those people who would take risk no matter what
the repercussions could be. That’s what I liked about her. Derek on the
other hand is a different story. He is more like a mammas boy. He is always
seeking help from his friends. He always has a smile on his face. I swear to
god if he was being shot at he would be laughing the whole time. But I am
just guessing.
I stared at the streets outside of the schools gates. It was clear of traffic. It
had a steady stream of water going down it from yesterdays rainfall. “Hey
Vinnie what are you doing up there! Class started 20 minutes ago!”.
“Come on Mayumi you know I am not one of those kids who would go
to class on a regular basis!” Mayumi is the goody two shoes in my
school. She is the number 1 student in our school. But suprisingly she is
pretty sadistic when it comes to talking to people. “Well get down here I
need to talk to you about something.”. What could she want? Me and her
never really had any kind of contact other than being science partners.
“Okay I’m down here. So what did you want to talk to me about?”.
“You were up their thinking about Crystal again weren’t you.”.
“What? I was just looking at the beautiful scenery.”. Could she really
have cracked me so easily? No way it was a lucky guess. “Don’t act dumb
with me Vinnie, you go up there every week and your excuse is the same
thing.”. Well it looks like I’m caught I might as well confess. “Alright
what if I am? You should mind your own business Mayumi.”. “You
should just stop you two have been over for 2 months now. It’s time for you
to move on. She is with Derek now. He’s your best friend you should talk to
him.”. “I do talk to him though.” I know she knows I’m lying.
Honestly I haven’t talked to Derek ever since he asked out Crystal. “
Vinnie, I’m just worried about you. You have been so depressed lately. You
used to be the head of the debate club. Now you have no fight in you
whatsoever.”. She’s painfully right I used to be energetic and bold. I
would speak my mind, but now I don’t even talk to my friends anymore.
“Well I need to get back to class Vinnie. I hope you’ll join me.”.
Mayumi walked off. I could see the displeasure in her body language.
I sat down and stared at the street again. Again I was admiring the beauty
of the dandelions and leaf blossoms. Their was a man on the street this
time though, he looked poor. It’s a rare site seeing poor people here, since
this is the political district. But I thought nothing of it. I guess a commoner
just got lost trying to get to the town hall or something. The man falls over
on a curb. Is this man drunk? The way he fell did not seem natural. It was
almost like it was on purpose. The man got up and walked out of sight
behind a fence. I decided to head down to my algebra class since I really
didn’t have anything better to do.

“Nice to have you join our class Vinnie. We are currently on page 586
reviewing exponents.” I open my book to the page.
I sat there staring at the problems. For some reason I could not stop
thinking of that man who fell over. There just wasn’t something right about
him. Why was a commoner walking around in the political district? This
district is only for government official families only. Even the checkpoints in
town are heavily guarded. So was that a drunk police officer? No if it was a
police officer he would have at least been aware of the curb. Something
just doesn’t add up. I look out my classroom window. Nothing of interest it
was just our Gyms warehouse. Then I notice to the left of the yard. There
was a woman. She resembled the man. She walked awkwardly and
dressed as if she was a commoner. I take a good look at her. Than I jump.
Her eyes. They. They. They were missing! After I notice both of her eyes
are just sockets I know something is up. The other man had both of his
eyes intact but he looked the same. Is this some kind of prank? No. If it was
a prank the school officer would’ve ended this by now. Anyways where is
the school officer? I look at the woman with scared eyes. What was this
woman she was tripping over on flat ground.
Then I saw Coach Brahman. He walks up to the lady and points her towards
the front gates. She’s obviously not supposed to be on our school grounds.
Coach Brahman must have seen her eyes. Cause he jumps backwards and
falls over. The woman than falls over again. This however looked more like
a lunge. She landed on the Coach. She dug her head into Coach Brahman’s
chest. I watched as he tried to push her away. It was terrifying. I watched
as Coach slowly went pale. The woman had blood splatter over her. What
was going on here?!
