So, I only read about six chapters or so of the manga, and that was ages ago (stopped at six because that was all that was scanlated at the time). I'll admit that my understanding of all this is limited. A small sample that wasn't even the source material is all I have to go on.

This being said, I thought Aria was a badass gunslinger, not the flighty princess we saw in episode one today. My first thought when I heard the voice Rie was doing was that it was brutally unsuitable, but then I saw what they were doing with her and it actually fits about right.

So my question is, did I misunderstand her character entirely, or is this a case of adaptation decay? Because, while I did know she was tsundere, I thought it was a secondary characteristic rather than something that completely overshadows anything that could be cool about her.

See this thread without any reply while I'm linger around the forum. Are you still looking for answer?

Well, I read up to Vol.6 of LN. What I can say about her characteristics: She has Louise's tsundere ojou-sama character mounted with Shana's level of skill.

Yeah. I've been starting to clue into that. She's a very skilled combatant, but not a true fighter proper. She needs someone to think for her. Not into the planning, not into staying composed, she really doesn't have a whole lot going for her beyond some skills as a marksman and martial artist. Even the martial arts don't seem to be accompanied by the associated discipline. Really, it's actually kind or remarkable she can ever aim worth a damn with her inability to ever really focus on anything.

Nothing wrong with that. It's not as if there weren't already more than a fair share of male feebleminded berserker warriors, driven by their passions to the exclusion of any level of thought, rational or otherwise. Plus, unlike many of the worst offenders Aria seems self aware and willing to concede to what she views as a greater intelligence, which has always been instant redemption for the "Dimwitted meatshield/warrior" archetype in my books anyway. Now if we could only take some efforts to actually establish Kinji as that greater intelligence XD Episode five was actually a pretty good start for that^^

Reread the manga and I think I definitely either got a skewed impression, or just degraded memory over time. It's not like she was portrayed any differently in there. The badass gunslinger almost taken out of a western, a modern day action flick, or perhaps The Dark Tower novels was never there. This was never a girl characterized by a sharp mind and honed, harsh practicality. Not quite sure where I ever got that lol. I guess it had been longer since the read than I gave credit for.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to reply. Louise's personality with Shana's level of skill. I like that. Quite astute.

I still find it rather odd that she is scare of thunder, after all she kinda shots stuff for a living and a.45 can be pretty loud (the gun might around 50~cm from her head when she takes the shots shots?).
huh?

That's... a good point. All I can say is that phobias are irrational? I mean, technically there's no real reason to be afraid of thunder to begin with. Admittedly though, it does seem odd when you take into account that it's not loud noises in general.

I really don't know what to say. I mean, looking back to early childhood, I was never actually afraid of thunder. Vacuums freaked me way the hell out though. Perhaps that's comparable?

Still, it also brings to mind a question. She's never let a criminal get away before. She's a reputedly elite butei. Does she just now work on rainy days? I mean, the system allows for enough freedom that she could totally do that if she wanted, but it still seems like a point of interest.
