This one wasn't that interesting to me. I found it a bit boring, I didn't like the development of the story, and yes, the animation and character design were simply decent.

Anybody who hasn't read the book wouldn't understand any of this. It's obvious that this anime is catering to the people who have read the books... This episode so far is the most ambiguous. I noticed a lot of differences here as well. Kokoro is a 248 page book, and the anime started at around page 160. With that, the anime is going extremely fast. We're past page 200 now. I like seeing some of the books' scenes animated, but it did irk me how they changed some of what was happening as well. For instance, K acts differently in the book, and is extremely philosophical. K is also supposed to be more attractive than Sensei, and here, Sensei is clearly A LOT more attractive. Most of the book takes place decades after what we're seeing, with K and Ojosan (miss in the anime) being more senior like.

And for anybody who hasn't read the book and is saying they understand it, please stfu. You will not understand this unless you've read the book.

That was absolutely captivating. I LOVED this episode. So much to be said about what it accomplished in so short of an episode. By far the best thing to come out of this series so far. I'm now really looking forward to the future arcs.

Well, I understand it just fine. You can tell me that I didn't understand it, but that doesn't mean it didn't make sense to me.

I loved this episode based on that I felt a sense of tension from start to finish. When K first glanced at that woman, it was obvious that this wasn't going to end very well; and I loved how it showed their friendship crumble slowly but surely.

The guy with the glasses was a bit of an ass, and it was nice to know that he still felt that K won despite that he got to marry the girl.

Never read the book. Honestly I'm pretty sure this whole anime was made for people who read these stories. Or if they haven't, then they'd maybe like to by the end. 2-4 episodes a story will never be enough. So I imagine these are just appetizers of sorts.

I already would like to own and read "No Longer Human".

Well, I understand it just fine. You can tell me that I didn't understand it, but that doesn't mean it didn't make sense to me.

Then you're contriving meaning for this ark. Kokoro isn't about K and Sensei. They're merely symbols, which is why I said nobody could actually understand this unless they had read the book. You might think you understand it, you might want to understand it, but you don't. You're looking at the story through a very narrow scope.

I don't really get why ojou-san was all "why didn't you call out to me? i was scared" to Sensei after the umbrellas+staircase scene. It was an act it seemed, but what for? x.x

This was the first story I really enjoyed, maybe that's because I've read the book. The animated version did feel very different and I wouldn't say it's better than the book, but it's still interesting. It makes me look forward to the last stories since I know them already. Much like with the others, I do feel that there's something missing in the anime even if the stories themselves are classics. Perhaps it really is true that with all the stories there are some aspects that are assumed the viewers know already. Like in the original (and much of classic Japanese storytelling) most of the things are implied rather than said directly. That also means it's more difficult to understand for someone who's been raised in a different culture. Indirectness doesn't often translate very well because you need to understand a whole system of implications. The animation was simpler but the backgrounds were just gorgeous.

That was atrocious. Everyone is so OOC I'm actually crying, they didn't develope the emotional aspect of Kokoro, they just made up a love triangle, omg I'm so mad!! How could they? How, when Kokoro is all about regret, sadness and morality?? Soseki is crying and so am I.

These little arcs need more development. Why would a guy devoted in spiritual development kill himself off so easily? We have all the time, what is the hurry? Why just one episode? I don't understand.

Looks like the next episode will also be about this one, maybe I'm wrong and they'll provide me with some proper development.

Didn't read the novel, but all I saw here was jealousy, ego and a typical love triangle. With a dash of suicide.

There was just not enough context and background info for me to care about these characters...
Also, weird choice of music for the last bit.

Huh, episodes 7 and 8 are together as a double episode in my download :O Anyway I thought this first bit was pretty interesting, pacing definitely seemed really fast but I guess they had to get through the entire book. The music was quite nice, I'm surprised that K killed himself at the end there, but I guess we'll get to see a bit more of him next episode when they do it from his perspective. I guess even though Sensei got the girl he's still haunted by what happened ... :O

Sensei was a dumbass to have a gigantic homeless vagrant live within his household and not expect him to eventually have feelings towards the beautiful girl that lives there. Those scenes where his sheer size, overly-slanted eyes, and pointed ears were shown in its full glory made it all the more eerie to have him around but I guess that's how the guy who adopted him sees him as. He might not have had the girl in the end but he proved that his love for Ojou-san will never be topped because he literally died for her. Crazy.

For whomever is watching this and has not read the novel “Kokoro” by Natsume Souseki, as @lucjan said, you are not understanding the significance of the story. If you’re only looking at it in a superficial manner of the plot of Sensei, K, and Ojousan, not even half of the meaning is perceived. These episodes lack context and is inaccurate. Please at least go read the analysis of the book on Wikipedia.

This was literally Sensei one upping and shattering K's determination and ideals to the very ground. All of them played him like a fool with their own interests in mind.

I only understood the tiny story that was told about these characters I know nothing about. I still didn't understand the reason he brought K to the house, I didn't understand their relationship, I didn't understand anything beyond a simple tragic love story... I really want to, and probably will, read the book, since I know it'll give me something more concrete.
