I want him to make the deal. I don't see anything bad about Soutetsu writing the Era.

I seem to be agreeing with you in all these threads, but yes, he does seem a bit morally ambiguous. I also think the series seems to be slowly undermining Akidzuki's role as correct. We know he's a heroic and good guy, but is his mission truly just?

The ED is rather symbolic about how sacrifices have to be made to achieve a nation. Clearly, if you divide up a country with loads of heavily armed feudal lords reigning over bits of it, there's going to be some unpleasantness before a united country emerges.

Is this what Soutetsu is trying to achieve? His rooftop conversation with Akidzuki early in the anime implied that he wanted to use the evil skull for a noble purpose. It seems at the moment that he is honestly working to create a united Japan through manipulating war.

I'm with Hanna_Ana. I think Soutetsu just wants to position himself close to the top of Japan or at least ensure Enmoto becomes ruler of Japan. The unity of Japan is not the issue, the issue is who will be running Japan. The handwriting is on the wall, everybody pretty much knows that the Tokugawa will lose to the Imperial forces, so Japan will soon be unified under the Emperor's leadership. Soutetsu has been a source of division since the beginning when he interrupted peaceful negotiations with that ambush. On top of all of that he's trying to harness an evil entity to add to his power. The exact nature of the Head of the Conqueror is a bit vague, but it seems to be a force that simply promotes chaos and bloodshed. Even if they managed to win, I don't think Soutetsu can control the destruction the Head of the Conqueror can cause.

Also, I wonder why the monk is worried about the other sword..

Hajikata is an excellent addition to the characters, I son't know if siding with Ibaragi is good for him or not,
Akizuki and Yuyama got a little fight LOL, but now they're good, also I'm waiting when Kana with his new team is gonna encounter Akizuki again.
