The video file is in .mkv format, so you will have to download "VLC" to watch it, as well as impose subs upon it. You can obtain VLC here:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

To make the subs, I had to sync the fan-subs from the cam-rip. Download the 1.04GB torrent found here:
http://www.nyaatorrents.org/?page=torrentinfo&tid=16916
The resolution is 720x480 (Standard DVD quality), the only issue I have with this encode is the value distortion. I don't own the actual DVD so I don't know if it's specific to the encode itself. Although most people don't know what value distortion is, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Then download the subs here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/110726944/Ender_Wiggins_Subs.srt.html

Edit: Here is the torrent for the Lossless 7Gb in standard VIDEO_TS format:
http://www.nyaatorrents.org/?page=torrentinfo&tid=16929

For those of you who don't know how to impose subs on a video file, follow my very simple and overly elaborate instructions:
Step 1: http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/6784/step1yj4.jpg
Step 2: http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/3791/step2bb1.jpg
Step 3: http://img246.imageshack.us/my.php?image=step3bv9.jpg
Step 4: http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/5766/step4mw2.jpg

Being that I have a 50" plasma screen television, I burned the video file onto a DVD. I'm sure most of you would prefer a TV to a computer monitor, so I will guide you in this endeavor.

I used "ConvertXtoDVD" to burn the .mkv to the DVD. You can download it here:
http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/
Then follow these instructions:
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/3867/ssss3dx5.jpg
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/6221/sssss4rt8.jpg
then you can edit whatever you want, menu's and such then:
http://img186.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ssssss5bw9.jpg
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/1784/ssssss6gn2.jpg
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/4269/sssss7ow4.jpg
http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/2508/sssss8hq3.jpg
Then convert the damned thing, and place a DVD in it, and burn it after it's done converting, and then your done.

You see now you know how to do that for anything you don't want to pay for! Please don't delete this thread! i put a lot of work into it!

Edit: I'll post the subs and instructions for the Lossless when I get the time, until then thanks to Fredere... Fredrezn... Fred something for finding the lossless torrent, I couldn't find it after I dl'd it >__>. For now just use .vob merge found here:
http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/showsoftware_vobmerge_108.html
and watch the video with VLC or burn the .vob with timed subs onto a DVD-DL with ConvertXtoDVD. Like i said, I will post the timed subs for the lossless when I get the chance.

Wow, thank you so much, Ender_Wiggin; all your efforts are much appreciated by this club member! :D

I'm busy with study stuff this week, so I won't get around to doing all that until the weekend. I've got it to look forward to, though, yay! :)

If you have a 50" plasma you could just save a lot of hassle and plug your pc directly into it.

nice work Mr_Wiggin, but using vobsub is much easier than VLC. Just put the subs in the same folder as the video and play with MPC or whatever player you people use. Vobsub gives you a lot more control over softsubs (size, sync, colour, font etc.) rarely makes a bollox of them like I have seen VLC do on many occasions. As its a Matroska container you will need to download CCCP to play it with most other players that don't natively support it like VLC. You could even add the subs to the container if you felt so inclined.

Well I hope people can figure this out by themselves

anybody who cant should probably put their computer back in its box, write "I am to stupid to own this" and return it to the retailer.:P

I prefer owning a copy, and it's useful to own a copy for many other reasons as well. Preferably I just use VLC to impose subs for the sake of having one less program. I have enough already, and it's not difficult at all to use the subs.

Ok, what is the difference in the subs you provided and the .ASS subs found where the torrent is. Any higher resolution rips? Oh, and if you a DVD-R or a DviX/XviD format file, I'll gladly rip and/or hard-sub it, so you don't have problems with subs ;). Currently I have only problems with opening the H264 files for encoding, but I'll figure that out someday too :).

VLC has all codecs inside, that's why you don't need to install Codecs, on the other hand, you don't have that much control on what is happening, that's why I only use as a last resort player, usualy WMP, BS.Player and Media Player Classic work for me, and I don't use crapy codec packs, I've got one I've made by myself and it works fine :).

There is a perfect DVD rip available. However it's 7GB, and the resolution isn't any higher. There is no Blu-ray format available for RoE so 720x480 is the highest resolution output you can get (the 1280x720 is a Camrip). The main difference between the Rip and the encode is that the lines are a lttle sharper, and there is less value distortion. There hasen't been any subs made for the DVD rip as far as I understand either, it's also a much more involved process to incorporate it as well. I'm satisfied with the encode until the Blu-Ray RoE is released. Until then the quality difference is negligible.

Ok, I've found the difference in the subtitles, some idiot forgot to put the stylings inside the .ASS file :) (or that's what I can see from one try) it seems that all characters are "speaking" in different style :).

The 1280x720 (at least the one provided by zero raws) is not a camrip, it has 6.1 AC3 sound and has the 1.01 eye catch in the middle (as well as the spelling fix from "emargency" to "emergency"). It's an upscaled rip of the DVD. I have a copy of the limited edition DVD and it's noticeably darker, resulting in some loss of quality in the dark areas, than what I saw in the theatre, and darker than even the trailers on the 2nd DVD.

Top is trailer, bottom is DVD

Just use Media Player Classic, if you are using some codec pack it'll work :).
Usually, I use VirtualDub to change the type, but H264 is a bit tricky.

Would you mind posting a DVD image with the subtitles (non-colored)? Please make sure it's lossless for a dual-layer disc plz. I hate it when people post encodes, we're not 56K'ers I can wait a couple of hours for the 7GIG vob's lol.

First of all, your .mkv is software upscaled. Most video playback software automatically upscales video files, so you wasted time and harddrive space on a gimmick, their isn't any high-definition format available for Rebuild of Evangelion.
I understand what your saying though, my subtitles didn't include the NERV staff EVA 01 launch sequence dialogue as well. However I didn't care enough about that sequence to actually obtain a new file, so I can't help you there. If your subtitle file is missing more than that dialogue sequence you can use the subtitle file I have linked to at the top. Otherwise you can just download various subtitle files you find through google and test them out with VLC using my guide if you are unaware of the method to utilize them.
If you want the full 7GB Lossless DVD rip in standard VIDEO_TS format, I can upload it given the demand is high enough to weight the amount of time and effort it would take me to put it up. I was going to wait for Feredzhanov, but he seems to be absent since I last responded, so I jumped the gun and did it myself.

yeah , i know its upscaled, im kind of resolution freak s: tho i didn't downloaded it yet.. however, im still waiting for more releases with actually better video quality, doesnt really matter if its upscaled or not.. anyway, i did download your subtitle and im eager to get the vid to watch it.. oh and about the lossless dvd rip.. i kinda have slow dl speed (512k) ): so nah, i dont want you to waste your time because of me (:+

Actually, I've downloaded the DVD from the same tracker you give the link, it's not 7GB, it 6.05 (I think) :).
Here's the link:
http://www.nyaatorrents.org/?page=torrentinfo&tid=16929

and here are the subs:
http://rapidshare.com/files/114837710/_DVD__EVANGELION_1.01_YOU_ARE__NOT__ALONE__704x480_x264_AC3_5.1ch_.ass.html

They are for the release in the first post.

The difference being one is upscaled from a better source (DVD) while the playback software upscales from whatever you downloaded. This is the reason you always see an upscaled raw for anything that is ripped from DVD, although it's debatable whether it's actually worth it.

As for the quality, I've mentioned before that the movie itself is much darker than what was shown in the theatres, even if you watch it from the DVD. Turning up your contrast helps a bit but there's still a loss of detail in the dark areas, even compared to the trailers that are included on the 2nd DVD. Maybe the May 21st release of the regular DVD will be better.
