I'm stuck here.

The animation is good and the comedy is good, but the story and plot so far are terrible :V

The OP is okay and I'm not a fan of the ED.

lmao at the penis shadow though XD

The episode was better than I expected. The art was nice and the characters were interesting. This could be a cult hit. I have high hopes for the show. 9/10

Best penis joke I've seen in anime in a long time that didn't involve phallic objects, puns, or dropping towels.

Surprise hit for me. I'm glad I decided to watch it on a whim. The fact it doesn't take itself seriously is a really nice plus for all the comedy that followed. This is the first Anime no Chikara to both interest me and make me want more past the first episode.

Art didn't yet catch me, don't like the facial expressions.
Was surprised about who voiced the teacher.
Just hoping that it won't be swallowed by fanservice..

Storywise it's pretty interesting, promising.
..and I got so wtf when the guy came down o_o
Fleshy-Ending? why? <.<

That was very promising start.
I really liked the first episode spooky and funny + some violence
the female lead was ver well dressed and cool.

The animation was indeed terrible. Overall not that terrible, could work as a comedy but should it take a more serious approach and it will turn into plain shit.

The fluidity with which the comedy is implemented makes this show very interesting. I'm loathe to watch High School of the Dead, but I'm going to anyway. At least there may be one good show this season.

It is fluid on close-ups, but overall it's bad. Just look at the scene when the possesed headmaster is going through the roof, for example.

After my initial doubt since it's another summer show.. I really enjoyed this!
I'm looking forward to how Maya's "plan" to destroy the school will play out.

The animation is really good and Maya's reactions were hilarious. (i.e., shadow penor)
I guess I can say this is what I wanted Kaidan Restaurant to be like, sorta?

Im going to lean with best premiere.. second best show.. (and no not HSOTD is the best in my opinion this summer)

I basically just gave this a try on a whim.. Im glad I did.. I really like Maya alot.. her character in general is just appealing.. I dont think Ive watched anything about ghosts and spirits yet.. so Ill give it a go... 7/10 so far.. if I fall more in love with Maya it will probably go up again.. LOL

I think if someone's watching only one anime this summer.. this would be a really good second one for them to pick up.

Well that was a pleasent surprise!

Genre savvy, doesn't take itself entirely seriously while keeping it serious enough that you care about what's going on. Also Maya's one piece dress is such a constant tease.

Good stuff! Maybe we'll finally see an Anime no Chikara anime work?

Maya was cool wielding that ax haha. She's like a goth chick.

I enjoyed the horror/comedy combination. It reminded me of Ghostbusters a bit.

The part where possessed Kozue got punched/whacked and then started looking for her glasses was funny.

Totally bums me out that this will probably be the most overlooked show of the season. The character designs are simple, but the environments are genuinely creepy and well-drawn. Lots of dramatic and hilarious facial expressions in some of the more comical moments. I have no clue how the story is going to pan out at all so I'm pretty excited to see how it'll develop.

I'm impressed so far. I liked this more than any of the other summer shows I've watched.

This series honestly surprised me. From the somewhat good animation, and music opening, I wasn't expecting something of a darker version of Ghostbusters meets Scooby Doo, but it still turned out great.

10 pages, but well, 1 page doesn't make much of a difference anyway. (Also, it could be stupid comments, like mine here for example, that make this more looked-at than it is~)

Wasn't expecting this to be that enjoyable, but I was pleasantly surprised =]
Maya's facial expressions were priceless.

I'm trying not to think of this as Scooby Doo but with actual spirits and fewer masked perpatrators ('My glasses, where are my glasses' xD)

Now why can't shiny naked boys come down from the sky more often?

that totally took me by suprise.. I just watched the first episode out on a whim, and after watching the first few minutes I thought that I'm definitely gonna drop this show, then just after a little more patience hanging on the show, WTH? it's a comedy? it really took me by surprise I never checked the genre of the show, so I really didn't expect it to be a comedy especially since the atmosphere is very serious at the start.. very interesting first episode, and nice cliff hanger at the end, I'll definitely wait for the next episode, this is my dark horse this season..

Weird start for an anime. I wonder what the significance of it being 1999 is? The beginning makes one wonder where this show is going as it doesn't really fit with the rest of the episode until the very end. I wonder what the school staff's secret is? Looks promising so far though, I liked the characters.

Surprising good for the first episode.

I'm a bit worried though since the Anime no Chikara project hasn't produced anything great and I doubt this will be any different.

Sora no Woto was brilliant.
...

Just because show doesn't reach its full potential it theoretically might have does not mean what it manages to do is automatically bad or average. Sora no Woto was excellent, well written slice of life with most fascinating setting I've seen in ages and beautiful art and music. Characters too were well written, defined and developed even if none was exactly "original". It did pull many small subtle spins and subversions on many SoL tropes though - it ain't Eva or Utena, it's small time tinkerin', but it's there nonetheles.

and OVA was bloody hilarious

I rated it 9/10 and I stand by the rating. Directing, production values, writing etc. were at "worst" average to solid and at best brilliant. As far as "hybrid series" go it's among the best of them - sunny slice of life performed in epic, brooding subtext of world dying. It perfectly captures the feeling of insert song Servante de feu which in turn crystallized what show was all about.

I could've done without KanataXBucket episode but apart from that it manages to do what it always intended to do. Criticizing it for not being war epic or pure "cute girls doing cute things" is off the mark because show never aimed for either.

Senkou no Night Raid on the other hand has been something of a mess so far; good ideas but rather unremarkable execution. It's been getting better though

There might be a reason for that.

But you know, some western cartoon, not anime.

I don't see what's particularly "western" about it. I guess I can understand the scooby doo feel but that's just a "feel" and not something concrete (and even then similarities are stretching. "Supernatural + comedy" isn't remarkable similarity between the two in my opinion. It's closer to Ghostbusters anyway IMO)

It's because the anime follows the Nostradamus prophecy that the world would end in the year 2000.

I'm not sure that I could disagree with anyone any more on something. Sora no Woto was good only because of its setting. In the vein of K-On, it uses the Slice of Life genre as an excuse to do absolutely nothing, then decide to have the world's most cliche story for 3 epsisodes, and not do it well. No characters were well developed (because that would imply that they were characterized or developed at all), and the show relied too much on over-used stereotypes to make up for the laziness with which the characters were presented.

The largest example of how the show exists only to pander to lonely otaku fanboys who've never touched a woman is the episode centered around a...wait for it...pee joke. Top that off with the ridiculous boob grabbing toward the end, and the show petty much just ends up as a piece of garbage.

Night Raid is indeed a mess, but it's definitely better than Sora no Woto because it strives to do something different and succeeds in many areas.

If this show is made by the same producers, I might have to be more wary than I anticipated, because I won't lie when I say the production is part of the reason why I enjoyed this first episode.
