So the first 26 episode anime in a long time that I finished in around 4 days. Not sure if I should give this a 9 or 10, since the ending is less than perfect. Somewhere around a 9.5 or 9.6. Suitable ending with a proper setup for a sequel, but not really quite the perfect ending. As in I don't feel wowed by the ending.

I had a slight feeling at the back of my mind that he would lose, and sadly it turned out to be true. The message about praying being useless in this kind of situation was so true. Yet that is EXACTLY what the majority of people in this kind of situation would do, me included. Panic, despair, hopelessness and then throwing everything to God and depending entirely on God.

It was really something for Kaiji to be able to look back on the factors of the lottery and figure out how Hyodou cheated, while most people would be in absolute despair over losing their body parts and such an enormous amount of money.

The Luck of Kings indeed... Haha. Kaiji has a really long way to go before he can even match up to Hyoudou. To think that Hyoudou even gave Kaiji one chance to win. One chance to carefully think things through and figure out exactly what he was doing. To turn the tables on him.

I wonder when the 2nd season of Kaiji will air; hope it will be as epic and intense as this season. I love the Brave Men Road arc the most out of all the arcs of this series. I hope there will be arcs that match up to the intensity of Brave Men Road in the sequel(s).

So saw the crumpled sheet of paper in an instant after Hyoudou made his second draw and thought why the hell Kaiji didn't notice it all...Oh, well, Kaiji got the lesson of his lifetime and is well on his way to becoming a gambler at the price of 4 fingers and a debt of a few millions.

Still glad that i watched Akagi before watching Kaiji. Watching how "trash" squirm and begging for their life when they are cornered like the sewer rats they are never felt better.

A show about an amazing battle of wits, alliances and betrayal turns into a show about balancing on beams (fear of death, pain, and the will to attack are fine themes I suppose, but given the context, still made very boring stories) and then cheap gambles and unimpressive small-minded strategies. And by cheap gambles I mean the accomplishment of winning is cheap (because the games suck), not the actual bets. Also the characters waffling on about their shitty theories was awful every time (For example, a couple of these theories I remember are: people spend their lives making money so therefore money is worth life. As long as resources are limited people will attack each other.).

Up to episode 10 I might have called this the greatest anime ever, but the last three arcs were mostly terrible. Considering how bad they were, Fukumoto undoubtedly had only one great arc in him, so I can't bother with any more of his shit. This is so disappointing...

What the hell kind of see-the-sequel finale was that? Meh, Kaiji lost too easily IMO, it was obvious the chairman was cheating.
Anyway I got into Kaiji with a cautious but positive attitude after hearing all that good stuff about it, thankfully the animation didn't bother me a bit and I got even more interested during the first arc whose premise was very interesting, despite the various schemes straining logic a bit, the bridge part was also interesting and suspenseful, done even better by the near nihilistic speeches given by Tonegawa, but it went kinda downhill from there... all in all the show was predictable, it had some surprising moments but it still was predictable and that didn't allow me to enjoy it that much, then Kaiji's overcomplicated schemes were bordering on insanity more often than not and still worked, being revealed in a dramatic, if not pretentious, fashion... meh, a good series it is, a masterpiece hardly.
That's all I guess.

Am I the only who thought Kaiji was average?

Dragged on for ages, extremely predictable, over the top at points, really stupid shit (like saving the guy on the boat)

Felt like watching the same page of manga for 5 mins with some guy moaning and crying constantly.

Might have felt alot longer then it is because I watched it in 3 or 4 sessions... but it sure bored me to tears half the time.

6/10 Was okay, but wouldn't watch again.

Damn, in the end nothing changed for Kaiji, except for losing his ear and fingers. But I like the fact that it's not a happy ending and it's kinda realistic. Overall, a great anime.

E-Card arc dragged on for too long so the last arc was rushed. I won't even complain about the ending, it surely means there will be a 2nd season.

I want more Kaiji.

E-Kaado was way more interesting/psychological than Kaiji's idea (Tissue-box raffle) anyways, so no complaints here.

10/10 because Fukumoto's writing is elaborate, intense, & gripping.

ending was the shit i have no idea what everyone is complaining about. i mean sure, if there wasn't the manga to continue on with it would be annoying but there is..........

also 'dragged on' wtf i didn't notice due to all the tension and INTENSITY. if you didn't feel that then you obviously like anime like this ugly yet beautiful world

Compared to the other games, the last game felt rushed and less interesting... But when he bet his fingers, I was sure he would win in the end. I really enjoyed the fact that he lost, this kind of things don't happen in many anime ( especially on the final episode ).

Overall, this is one of the best anime i've seen. The second card game was amazing. I hope the second season will be at least as good as this one. 10/10

E-Card arc sucks, it became predictable when he cut off his ear... seriously why are people thinking this is better than Lotery arc? Lotery arc was meh but still better than E-Card.

I'll be watching season 2

Lol great ending. So he starts out poor, ends up poor but down 4 fingers, an ear and all his "friends" went splat. Nice. Hope Season 2 is a little more uplifting...

Very nice show though I think it peaked a bit too early with the beam walking. Last two arcs had their moments but not as gripping as the beams.

Having read the manga, I can say that your wish has been answered. But I think after watching the first season(which hasn't been translated in manga but the second season has for some reason), the second season is honestly even more intense than RPS.

That ending left me at a loss. I want to give it a 9 for that E-Card match, but this last game felt lackluster. Still, Kaiji is awesome, and I'll probably save that 9 or 10 for season two.

Lottery arc was way too predictable. There is no tension or intensity when you know there is no way Kaiji can win. That "plan" wouldn't have worked on an 8 year old, much less an old man who has been cheating people for god knows how long. And the fold... wow.

Anyways, still a great show. 8/10
On to season 2.

The ending arc was the worst arc in the entire show. And it's not because the chairman won. But the absolute simplicity and lack of thought. Only good was that it shows that thought, and not prayers are decisive.

Agreed on the bad ending arc.

Also felt the Starside hotel race was a bit too excessive. "Oops, we turned the electricity off late." Are you shitting me? The sacrifice was worth it tho. Truly a brave death. Sahara's death also felt pointless, like it just had to happen so the story can progress with Kaiji playing the E card.

Anyways, I'm going to give an 8.

Very well made series, I'm hovering between an 8 or a 9. I agree that this last arc was weaker than the rest, but this series still wins big when it comes to the absolute truth of human nature and what money will make a person do. I also like how Kaiji chastises himself for praying to god when she should have relied on himself.

Actually, I think Kaiji himself is a great character.

Not as good as Liar Game but still pretty good. If they make an anime of that, I would watch it regardless of how bad an adaption it is.

The psychological games were fun but without characters to keep me attached to a show/story, I just can't be a big fan. Kaiji's a great character but there's nothing about him or going on with him that makes me really want to see what happens to him next.

You are not alone. If it wasn't for the ending I would have written this show as absolute garbage. Kaiji was being super naive throughout the entire show and like you said, everything dragged for so long. Also some of the decisions the sidekicks (or Kaiji) made just left me in confusion but later on just made me laugh everytime.

The trash, as mentioned in the show, were so annoying that this show was almost unwatchable at times. Especially in the end those nameless people commentating and supporting were so over the top for me. I mean, cmon, even the way that most characters were depicted was extremely childish and unrealistic.

Nevertheless, I liked the ending. When he was figuring out the paper towel lottery, my mind was blown. I couldn't believe how shitty this show could get. It was so rushed and felt like the author was just flat out trolling. Anyway, it might have been a predictable ending but I still liked seeing Kaiji actually losing.

A magnificent, Suspenseful, and overall AMAZING anime!

I loved Kaiji from start to finish, every episode for the exception of a couple were brilliant, Kaiji was a great character and the old geezer was a very good villain.

This ending was indeed a "GOOD" one, Kaiji lost because he selfishly tried to literally push his luck and instead he was outplayed by the old geezer...

9/10....The reason it doesn't get a 10 is because I feel the final "arc" wasn't properly done and it just lacked the intensity of the first two parts of the anime.

Crease thing was genius! Would've never thought of that. Also, the first anime I've ever seen with a bad ending. I guess it sets up for season 2.

Overall 9/10. Pretty good, didn't like the beginning, and the suspense kinda dropped down at times (for me).
