I have a theory that people hate on MT because it's a classic case of psychological projection. They see Rudeus flaws and it hits way too close to home, which causes a severe anxiety as if someone called them out directly, but unlike them, Rudeus actually gets better and becomes a better person. I still remember how people were hating on Watamote back when it was airing, calling it "cringe" and stuff like that just because Tomoko was a little bit too relatable. |

It's funny that you mentioned Watamote, because they used to bash on it, and now they all love it for some weird reason. Nobody nowadays can seem to handle they're own insecurities. So they have to project them on others, like the creator of this thread. |

I think one of the reasons on the hate on MT is due to people not reading the source material, the light novels. Many people made the mistake of only watching the anime promotion and move on to watching other anime in the next season, disregarding the source material. I felt the anime cuts a lot of content such as characters’ monologues which shows their character development. MT is much harder to adapt as the story is dependent on the character monologues. If I recall correctly from the 26 volumes of MT, Norn has more character development than Rudeus. |
