[SLIGHT SPOILERS]
I've seen people complaining about this chapter because they believe that Denji is "regressing" or "having no character development" and I'm really not sure what you guys are reading. Sure, there are similar through-lines between this chapter and others from the past such as Denji being down bad or Yoru comparing him to a dog but the context behind this instance and the ones from the past couldn't be more different and I don't see a lot of people talking about that.

1. Yes, Yoru compares Denji's obedient nature to a dog like Makima but this is after the former just cleared the air with Denji about her identity and her intentions with him while the later was manipulating and lying to him to literally destroy his life. Obviously, Yoru has very strong feelings for Denji. That affection is why she told Yoshida that she would keep him around as a toy even though she already defeated Pochita, which has been her goal for the entirety of Part 2. However, she is a devil and an extremely emotionally stunted one at that. She would never say something like this outright so she masks her affection through insult.

2. At this point, Denji just enjoys being down bad for beautiful women. There's been too many instances, such as sucking on a devil for Fumiko or allowing her to use him as a chair, where he's willingly done humiliating things for women he found attractive or has feelings for. Just because he's matured in his mindset towards loss doesn't mean that he's going to change what turns him on. That would be bad writing tbh and I don't think this is something that his character necessarily needs to progress from. It's just a preference.

Anyways, I hope this helps you see what some would call regression as character consistency. And I wouldn't be surprised if, combining Yoru calling him a dog, her using the "bang" sign and the cake, we see Denji have some sort of PTSD from Power's death in the next chapter but with Fujimoto I've given up assuming I know were the story's going. I'm just here for the chaos!

I think people just assume Denji wants to know who "did the deed" to him for perverse reasons. I would like to believe he's asking to know if he's being used by a devil again or if the girl he likes is reciprocating his feelings. I could be completely wrong, though.

I also think people focus way too much on the sexual side of his character, which I can kind of understand. His development, though, comes from the parts of his experiences from the people around him. That's the whole premise of part 1. He is learning how to be human. He started his life in such a harsh way. I dont really like comparing him to Guts, but they are kind of similar. Both drew the short straw on life and now have to figure out how to achieve a sense of normal or peace. Obviously, they deal with different issues and have way different personalities, but they are similar.

I dont think Denji is the best protagonist of all time, but he's definitely not the worst, and for people to say he has no development is crazy. He does have development. It just doesn't take out or chop away at the aspect of his character that people dislike.

Also, the coloration with the power scene is just great writing. If, in fact, there is some connection. Let's be real. There is no way he did that on accident. haha

Side note: It feels like part 2 is concluding, and we are getting a part 3 as the final part since the death devil was acknowledged. It is also getting close to the same number of chapters as when part 1 ended.

The people who still think he is regressing are not reading the manga with their eyes, they are sniffing it like a guard dog and playing policeman on the internet.

Denji's character progression is just about the only think I like so far about part 2. (Fighting with Pochita is pretty cool too) Asa is a welcome addition as well, but it feels like her time has passed

@babajeeds for me Asa is lowkey the best part, war devil is such an interesting concept and her duality with Asa is so well done
