MILGЯAM Episode 26 Discussion

It's been a few days now but I'm still in shock over this. I mean it was to be expected with the death flags looming above the 3 missing characters, and it's not all that surprising that the creators would have the guts to really take them out, but man... The way my heart sank and blood ran cold when Yuno started singing and I realized what was happening... That left an indelible mark on my psyche I'm pretty sure, so terribly haunting.

The "Route" in the title is interesting, as others have speculated I wonder if this is just one of many story branches, and if so does that mean we'll eventually get to see other outcomes? That would be really cool and also maybe comforting because this specific timeline is absolutely cooked lol. How will the others even survive without Shidou...

Makes me sad how things turned out, I really like Haruka, Mappi and Shidou as characters and want to know more about them. Personally I don't think any of them deserved to die based on what we know so far, it's a shame if this means we won't get to hear from them at all anymore. At least I don't need to feel guilty since I wasn't here during either voting period, if nothing else.

@Supirosk I don't think we'll see the other routes because this one was built throughout all trials. This is the route people chose and the only way to get another one would be to redo the entire project.
Say everything was the exact same, but Mahiru had gotten an innocent vote from the start. That is already a completely different route, and the same goes for every vote of every character. There are too many variables for them to do each of them.
Though I doubt it, it would be really cool if they redid these sometime from now with a new set of prisioners.

@Eruz Yeah that's a good point, it would be incredibly complicated to pull off even one alternate timeline. Just makes me wonder why even add "Route" to the title if they were only ever going to show us this one outcome anyway, I guess. Still, even though it wouldn't make sense in the context of the story, it would be nice to at least get to hear everyone's T3 songs. Kind of a bummer if the seiyuu for Haruka, Mahiru and Shidou don't get to perform them at all now, and if we never get to learn the final details of their pasts.

Getting another version of Milgram would be awesome, someone brought up how a visual novel adaptation could work well for the series and I've been thinking about that a lot. Would be cool to see.

@Eruz Yeah makes sense, giving it more meaning than that might've just been needless coping on my part lol.. Yknow despite all my daydreaming here I do actually like the idea of us only getting one chance at this experiment, makes it way more thrilling and meaningful. It's just that I'd love to know everything about the project and what their plans were, and the thought of all that staying in the dark forever kills me a bit, but that's ultimately just a me problem.

I'm sorry for your Mappi loss </3 She deserved better and I'm sure her 3rd song would be another banger... Haruka's solos introduced me to Milgram and are some of my favourites in the whole series so I'm really sad about him too :(

Oh no I wasn't really thinking the visual novel would have songs, just art and a story with different routes and endings. It would still be a TON of work and would take years to develop, but I dunno! I'm not expecting the team to ever make anything like that, but as a concept or fan project or something it doesn't seem too unrealistic considering there are choice-based games with lots of variables out there already. Though it would probably require a smaller cast, 10 characters is a lot to work with.
And yeah I've been reading the manga, it's good! Pretty neat how well the premise works in an entirely different format.
