How accurate is the dub?

I heard many good things about the dub, but since I can't stand the dbz dub due to the big list of script changes and... awkward acting, I'm worried it will ruin my experience or it might change the narrative. Currently watched 6 episodes in japaneese with subs

So is the dub as good as people say it is, with good voice acting and accurate lines? Or is this just another dbz case where people are oblivous to big list of inaccuracies?

The dub is fantastic for Yu Yu Hakusho some people argue it’s even better than the sub which is rare to see but it’s debatable.

@Mr_Mayhem_101 i hear that a lot but why is it fantastic? How do I know its not butchered for the sake of being comedic

The YYH is one of the best dubs ever made!

Kurama has his accurate voice, sounding like a man whereas in the sub he sounds like a child…

The same could be said for Yusuke here ^

The difference in most voices is massive. The scripting changes were all made for better comedic jokes but it still aligns with the source material.

It’s my favourite anime of all time and the dub contributed to that. If not for the amazing cast of the dub team, I don’t think it would’ve been my favourite as they make it special.

Please watch in dub, you will not regret it.

The best dub I’ve ever watched. It’s not a gag dub like Ghost Stories. Every voice actor puts so much emotion into their character.

The dub is great, one of my favourites. I would say it pretty accurate too, don’t remember anything being different compared to the Japanese version.

Pretty damn accurate, it's a little americanised in the lingo but it doesn't take away from the overall story. The characters have a little more sass and it honestly is a great watch. You can read the manga at another time after watching it and you'll notice it's mostly the same dialogues delivered in a different language.

I'm genuinely surprised most of the answers didn't actually answer the question, but if you took a look OP yeah it's basically an official abridged series? In your main post you compared it to DBZ, and I'd say yeah the dub is basically like that. It's good if you're looking for a funny shounen, but if you want a serious story that's accurate to the manga it doesn't do it justice. A lot of throwaway comedy oneliners. I'd continue with the sub based on what it sounds like you're looking for.

Did I not explicitly recommend the manga to read afterwards because the English Dub is still a GREAT way to watch the show?
