Much of what I'm about to post is speculation without much info to go on, but at the very least a wait this long is rather abnormal and doesn't have a clear reason for it.
At this point I really don't believe S2 is taking so long due to C2C being busy with Shangri-La. After this show they worked on Saitou, and that Elf Show, both of them released one season after another after Sword S1. With Shangri-La a 24 episode show season releasing after those with a single season worth of gap, and Shangri-La S2 is nearing the end in a month or so.
If them being "busy" with Shangri-La was the reason we should've heard something by now. I believe there's an event a couple months from now where a lot of new anime will likely get announced, if they don't show any update for this then I highly doubt Shangri-La had anything to do with the delay. More likely is outside production factors from either the producers/production committee or the director. The director for this also worked on Moonlit Fantasy, and Fairy Tail, both of which got moved to JC Staff recently for some reason. It's rather unlikely this one is getting moved to JC Staff, they produce loads of anime per year as they're a very large studio and most of their productions besides OPM generally move pretty fast.
At this point we've had radio silence for over 2 years with the director, C2C, and the majority of things that could put it's production on hold not being an issue. It's rather unlikely but still possible that it could just be something more simple like planning issues or info that isn't public that's affecting it like C2C getting booked for tons of unannounced anime at high priority. More likely is that for whatever reason there may be, they could be shifting production to a whole new team/studio which takes lots of extra time to make the new season compared to a team which has already worked on and is already familiar with the series.
Realistically though it's really it's anyone's guess, I really only have an issue with it if we're stuck waiting for 3+ years and get a mediocre production that isn't up to standard for 2025. |
