I never fully realized how alone Light is. I guess after seeing him cry out for Misa of all people, I noticed it.

Sigh... he's starting to act irrational... it must be ending soon.

This chapter was great. Matsuda shooting Light when he started writing. Light starting to use his blood to write the rest. Matsuda going all ham on Light. When Light was calling people for help, even the ones he killed, I pitied him

Hell yes! I anticipated Matsuda's foiling Light eventually because he's the most unlikely guy to do so. I'm so proud! :')

As for Light: Pathetic. Simply pathetic.

My GOD (pun intended) this scene was so much better here in the manga!! Light begging for his life and for help showed us just how pathetic and alone he is. Part of me pities him, but not as much as the part of me who wants to see him rot for what he caused his father and sister.

there's good thing about light begging in the manga, but also bad thing - that's not how you treat the character you worked on for fuc$# 100 chapters, it make sense but not doing good to light characteristic.

@User-Name I thought the point of it was that after all of the people he killed, he is begging for his life. His patheticness IS the point

i didn't meant that light's death in the manga is bad, but i believe that the anime does much more justice for a character i was so invested in.
you are right in the concept of why his begging for death is ironic and metaphoric, but even in the anime he's running away out of shame, so his anime's death is on the same level, only less trashing his character.
i do not necessarily thinks that light's manga death is bad, i just like the anime more for not making light as complete duchbage, only 70% of him. lol

@User-Name bro, i didn't even finish watching death note but what are you on about? you keep saying it "does it justice" -even in your topic on why the anime is better- but again i haven't read/watched all of death note so i can't give an opinion on what you said, but they can't possibly do a character "justice" more than the writer themselves, that means they don't fully understand the character or why it would do what it did, including his [pathetic] breakdown, it was how the writer envisioned his character, simply because you liked it more doesn't mean they "did it justice".

i don't disagree with you (i already said why) but im just saying, you can't just say they did better than the writer themselves.
and just now from your topic post, i discovered they changed a lot more than i thought, the whole theme of the manga itself as you said, i can't say which one is better of course but im just telling you to state your opinion without saying they were (somehow) more faithfull to the story/characters than the writer.

happy new year brother

@IsaacLiebrt
you haven't finished watching/reading the entire death note and yet you commenting on my opinions like you understand what i'm saying.

thinking "the writer knows best" is wrong idea in creativity and literature. true that the writer have its own vision for the story, and you would call it "the real / canon / original story", but one point of story of one writer, can have another point of view in the eyes of another writer.
first thing, in weekly shounen manga, you can't possibly do exactly 100 precent what you want. your manga and story is the product of a company and not theirs. death note's writers expressed many of times they wanted to end the manga in different way, and yet they forced to continue due death note success.
most of the time that change the story, but although saying that, i do not believe that the writers made the ending this way, but as you said, because that was their vision.
it's most likely the vision of the anime director. he saw death note story as light's story rather than L or N. chapter 107 is about N's conclusion rather than light's. so he cut the last chapter out, and made the ending more connecting to light's story ending in kind of a circle way. and while it maybe wasn't the "original" writers intent, i believe the anime director did something good here that the manga writers didn't thought, or rather didn't wanted to for creativity reasons.
for that matter, i prefer the anime ending, because the director saw something that the original writers didn't, either intently or not. this is not bad thing to give different execution than the source, anime and movies does that all the time.
and to strengthen this, i don't believe the original writers would approve of the anime ending for anime that was quite so faithful to the manga, if they weren't saw the strong points of this kind of ending.

either way it's give or take in my opinion. i do not hate manga's ending as i said, but i got myself too much into light's character that i prefer the anime ending little more. you do not have to agree with me on this, but saying "manga is the source, so it's better" is wrong in death note case and other series as well.
