I'm a big fan of Manga Time Kirara Forward, which published the Yumekui Merry manga and I had the pleasure of reading it while it was still being released. After it was completed in 2020, I had hopes that a new anime adaptation could be announced, but that's not what happened.
Even though the Anime didn't adapt even half of the manga I still have an emotional memory (I've watched it 7 times) but even so I have some problems with the anime that I will list below.
Problems with the anime
1.Few Episodes: The tiny number of chapters that were adapted left no room for the plot that would develop later.
2. Irregular rhythm: The narrative had its ups and downs in terms of rhythm and tension.
3. Abrupt conclusion: The ending was considered rushed and without an adequate resolution.
4. Unexplored world: The manga's universe was not fully developed.
5. Animation: The quality of the animation was considered average for the standards of the time.
There were only 13 episodes, half of which are not even canon, at the time I remember that they didn't adapt 30 chapters.
I even liked the filler characters, but I didn't think it was a good choice to mix them with the canon, but if they had made 24 episodes maybe I wouldn't mind.
Yumekui Merry is a 2011 anime, by the studio J.C. Staff, so the quality of the animation could have been better, I even like some specific scenes, but only because it's cool to see something animated that you previously only read in the manga.
Lately we have had many finished mangas receiving Anime adaptations and many of them were adapted until the end.
Yumekui Merry was finished with 140 chapters, so it would take a few seasons to reach the end, the chances are never totally impossible so I will wait as long as it takes for this remake to happen someday.
When the anime was produced in 2011, the manga only had 7 volumes and 40 chapters, as the author was still working on the story, they had very little material to adapt. (Something similar happened with the Fullmetal Alchemist anime in 2003)
All that said, after the manga ended I had hope that someday there would be a more worthy adaptation with current animation standards, as a fan I would be very happy if this happens, so I will wait in the near future for a good studio to be behind this remake project. |
