After watching season 1, I remember many scenes which made me think Akane is very violent and mean towards Ranma... 1. Episode 1, the meeting, Akane calls Ranma a perv after hearing all his backstory and everything. Of course Ranma does take offence to it and says "its both were sawn naked, not just only you" indicating Akane is not the bigger victime like she thinks. Then to make light of the situation Ranma comments "its not a big deal since I have the bigger chest anyway". Then Akane hits him with the table Akane walks into the bath -> Akane calls him pervert -> Ranma comments her chest -> Akane hits him with table -> Ranma goes to bath again -> Ranma slaps him again Akane started this, called him perv and Ranma commented her chest.... Till here it was nuetral... But she hits him with the table, and slaps him again (for which she already did to Ranma) Since the post is getting long, I will update it for all the episodes later |

She is the most generic tsundere you can possibly imagine, especially since Ranma 1/2 is a product of it's own time and Rumiko's works are kinda famous for having characters with VERY exaggerated traits, so she is not even the biggest offender in this anime. |

@Piromysl What do you mean by 'biggest offender'? |

I feel like that rather than an "even" state it was a slowly progressing the offense so each time it's worse than previous. Also it is a super old manga so it's going to be a bit more on the violent side to be wacky. I'd say a lot of the time he does have it coming because he'll say something he knows is worse than she did to one up. Also most of the time he easily dodges whatever she tries to do. |

@WestOnAndrewAve Really? Did you see what I wrote in the post about episode 1? What do you think of it? Did you think Akane hit him with the table since Ranma provoked her (with comments on her chest), hence deserved? I'm not even counting things that Ranma dodged, only attacks that are successfully landed on him |

Imagine taking slapstick comedy so seriously....
@VivaceRex If you can't say anything back regarding the logic, conclusion of the post please say it... The question of Akane's violence is a valid one, and I'm willing to dive into it seriously... If you don't like it, don't take my post too seriously and just ignore it... People who actually think about these stuff will participate in it |

It's not just Akane. Most of Rumiko's fmc will have temperament and can dish out slapstick violence for physical comedy. And Ranma is brash, prideful and insensitive at times and totally deserved it. None of the characters in Rumic shows will ever hurt of it because it's just silly slapstick shenanigans just for laugh. |

@VivaceRex you saying Ranma totally deserved it is what boggles my mind... Did you see my post above about the episode 1 of the anime? After reading it, do you still think Ranma deserved it?? It's not just silly slap stick shenanigans, it's expression of the emotions of the characters which is central to the story... Ranma looks sad soooo many times after getting slapped by Akane... After shampoo gets introduced, Akane just slaps Ranma and walks away... Ranma looks very sad because of it... It is being mean in both physical and emotional sense... JUST SLAP STICK COMEDY is tom and jerry, the injuries of tom doesn't carry into the next scene... Here Akane twists Rama's hand with so much force that they had to go to Drugs Tofu... You cannot sweep them under the rug by saying just slapstick shenanigans |

It is a Rumiko Takahashi manga? It is a comedy? It was written in the 1980s? None of these questions matter to the story? I'm not saying bringing them up is 100% wrong, but it's certainly useless. Of course Akane is violent towards Ranma. But the intention of the violence from Takahashi's side is to generate laughs and nothing else. You can read into it all you want, but the only answers you'll get are whatever you make up in your head. Nothing that the author wanted to put there. |

He is hurt emotionally not physically. He thougt she misunderstands him and start to hate him while that's not true. Ranma just don't like she doesn't get him. He can take any beating be it from other characters or Akane but not emotionally. It doesn't help that Ranma likes to act tough and insensitive to her unknowingly by him. And Akane not being able to be honest or upfront with her feelings thus she lashing it out through physical and Ranma don't get that he just hurt her feelings. Watch more of Rumiko's stuff not just Ranma to see my point on slapstick comedy and it's relation on how these characters will navigate their emotions. |

If you get triggered by every incidence of comedy violence there can’t be many anime you can actually watch! I can’t think of a show where MC doesn’t get a lump or sequence of lumps on his head, or a handprint on his face, or a kick to the private parts… Even cute SOLs like K-On show Mio hitting Ritsu on the head repeatedly, gonna complain about that too? It amazes me that anyone would start a hate campaign against a fictional character anyway, maybe focus on challenging real 3D abusive people? |

@RandomPerson9348 RandomPerson9348 said: intention of the violence from Takahashi's side is to generate laughs and nothing else How do YOU know this? I could easily say, it is also in your head atleast in Ranma 1/2 case... Akane's violence is not just laughs, it is expressing Akane's emotion to Ranma which Ranma takes seriously ex: After shampoo introduction, Ranma and Ryouga fight and then Akane just slaps him completely unprovoked... Ranma looks very sad... That slap isn't meant to make you laugh very clearly... All of Akane's violence is not just slapstick comedy... There are so many story beats gets forwarded because of Akane's violence... The story certainly doesn't treat it as ONLY just a gag... It is much more than that |

@VivaceRex Ranma 1/2 is clearly a bit different than her other works... I don't remember in her other works, where the injuries of the characters are carried onto the next scene, like Akane twisting Ranma's arm and had to visit Dr Tofu VivaceRex said: Akane not being able to be honest or upfront with her feelings thus she lashing it out through physical Exactly my point too... The violence is not just slapstick comedy... It's the characters emotions that tied into the plot... Even Ranma's insults are also tied into the plot... Shampoo violence, Ryouga violence ARE slapstick because there is not much emotion tied into it... But Akane's violence has her emotions, love etc... It's not fair to ignore it by saying slapstick comedy in Akane's case... But atleast please respond to my original post... I have talked about incidents in episode 1... What do you think of it? Do you think Ranma deserved? Do you think Akane was mean? |

When Ryouga creeps into a teenage girl’s bed in pig form, you get upset by comedy violence in a show about martial arts and violence? Unwarranted violence in a romance may be noteworthy, but you are trying to get people to agree with your stupid attacks on a fictional character who is acting in character. I see you sending similar messages to anyone who disagrees with your take, are you upset because we don’t all fall in line with your woke assumptions? Sorry! |

@FutoiOtaku I just asked for some human decency to not spam, to not bloat the post with unnecessary, irrelevant replies... There are people who are interested in this post and you are just spamming irrelevant stuff... Saying my query is ridiculous is not 'opposition', it is irrelevant... If you think Akane is not violent, I'm interested to see the reasons you think that way... But your reply is just spam... See every other reply and see yours... You answered nothing of my query... I don't know why my post triggered you so much... This will be my last reply to you in the interest of not creating spam from my side |

@Niwaka_Samurai I think being tsundere and being mean/violent are two seperate things... I think everyone agrees that she is a tsundere... Whether she is mean and violent on other hand, people do have mixed opinions... So you agree that she is violent but still find her charming... Did I understand correctly? Fair enough |

I'm not trying to say she gets less violent or anything, but at least she becomes more affectionate towards Ranma, even in this season. She helped Ranma and didn’t completely ignore him when his secret was on the verge of being revealed. and that's what u call "violent".. makes the show more funny. It's not like she is against living ranma in her house and always taunt him by calling him freeloader. |

@apexvoid As far as I understand, they are both warm(dere) and cold(tsun) to the protagonist... From Akane to Yukinoshita all of them I mentioned fall into this category according to me... The most recent tsundere in my memory is Alya from roshidere... Momo Ayase from Dandadan is NOT a tsundere for me since I think she was never really cold to Okarun... |

But she hits him with the table, and slaps him again (for which she already did to Ranma) Since the post is getting long, I will update it for all the episodes later Maybe you should actually watch the rest of the show before making this pointless post |

I think most of users can agree with these points: 1. This anime uses a lot of violence for comedic purpose. Akane being violent towards Ranma is NOT the only instance of this. 2. Most of the times Akane is provoked by Ranma himself. Also, by using your same logic, we should call Ranma abusive, since everytime he makes remarks saying to Akane that she is not cute or not feminine. NGL, sometimes this dynamic makes me a bit sad, but most times Ranma gets a punch for saying that so that's more than even lol (and keeps the comedy going on too). One more thing: 3. I can't find this series on your watchlist. You actually watched this or should I pull the "bait used to be believable" card? |

Even her mom calls her violent in episode 1... Why is it a hot take that she is violent in 2024? And my post regarding episode 1... Don't you think there is logic and truth in my post?? If you disagree, care to explain why exactly that is? This thread, your question and your observations is like making a thread with this title: "How many of you think female Ranma's hair is pink?" Is an obvious subject that is useless to discuss. |

@Piromysl What do you mean by 'biggest offender'?

@shawnfoster shawnfoster said: Akane being violent towards Ranma is NOT the only instance of this. I think Akane's violence is a bit different to everyone... Akane's love, anger, jealousy, sadness every emotion is expressed through violence... I cannot simply ignore Akane's violence like I could with Ryouga or Shampoo... Ignoring violence is ignoring Akane's emotions shawnfoster said: Most of the times Akane is provoked by Ranma himself. I disagree... Like I mentioned in the post about episode 1, Akane first insults Ranma and Ranma insults her back and then she hits him... Akane either assumes the worst of Ranma, calls him an insult or go against him, which frustrates Ranma and insults her... The instigator is Akane... In jealous situations, the instigator is 100% Akane... Ranma never hits her back too and she still hits him... Ranma insulting Akane without provocation, I can't recall in this 12 episodes shawnfoster said: I can't find this series on your watchlist. You actually Ya I finished all 12 episodes and couldn't decide on the rating, hence didn't update it yet... |

@FreedomKME Many people here replied to me saying that Ranma is the instigator then Akane responds with violence hence Ranma deserved it... That's what I disagree with... From my post it is clear that Akane instigated with the pervert insult, Ranma responded with chest comment and then she responded with violence... While Ranma saying "Akane listen" and she still slaps him ignoring his pleas... Yes Akane is violent and yes all characters are violent... But in Akane - Ranma situation, it is Akane the instigator most times, and only Akane is the violent one... But many fans disagree with this... Hence why I created this post Imagine a girl keeps hitting you, but you can't hit her back since she is a girl, you would atleast insults to vent out the pain right... |

Then Akane hits him with the table

@Mr_Sai I watched all 12 episodes... It's just typing all incidents for 12 episodes is going to take more time, hence I only typed for episode 1... |
