Kinokoinu (as a mushroom) wanting to be in Hotaru's yard after being plucked from its home, it's a mystery sure learnt in due time (as his grandmother would foreshadow).

After sending Ayumi off, both Hotaru and Komako have time to kill, so bringing Kinokoinu to a nearby cafe is their relaxation moment, though it's a lil' karma for Komako pulling all-nighters at the very same place. Back at home, while the loads of history about Kinokoinu is a ton covered in books and trying to pinpoint its exact history, said mushroom pup making takoyaki on its own to then play in the rain, only for Hotaru to save it and unconsciously drop the diary in the heavy rain.

Yara coming in with a cake and the Ueharas with grapes, only for Komako to realize the diary being left in the rain for quite a while, too bad that Yara got his alone time with Hotaru interrupted. Komako trying to figure out who Kinokoinu actually is, there actually is no point, because everyone has fun with it and their worries washed away, especially towards Hotaru who experienced a life-changing moment when Kinokoinu entered his life. The perils of the mushroom pup digging the smartphone like dogs would hiding their bones, it too doesn't honestly matter that much.

Kinokoinu and Hotaru's grandmother's truce has finally paid off...though it needs a new phone quick.

Such a cute and adorable show, I'm pleasantly surprised.

Satisfying finale with more things revealed about Kinoko Inu. However, the whole truth about it will remains a mystery mostly due to the unfortunate accident where Hotaru's grandmother's diary got heavily damaged in the rain.

For Hotaru, it doesn't really matter. The most important thing is that Kinoko Inu makes him happy.

Yep, this was a cute, funny, and touching show. Definitely a hidden gem of the season for me.

Ultimately it's a story about how to cope with the loss of your beloved pet by having a new pet, but told in a beautiful slice-of-life way.

great anime with quite a reasonable finale episode. I just find strange it has such low score

Nice gentle ending, no surprises but no disappointment either.
I kinda wished for an alternative end where Kinono and the billions of clones he spawned when releasing spores assembled into a fungal invasion force and eradicated humanity… but it was ok the way it was I guess… ๐Ÿ˜‚

I did some small research and discovered that the TV anime adapted the first seven volumes of the original comic, but I gotta say that the ending point for the last episode was so perfect that it almost felt like an original conclusion made up by the anime staff.

Why did it move me so much when I watched a mushroom nod?

Also when Grandma wrote to Hotaru to take care of himself, soon after Hotaru told Komako to be careful.

Extremely laid-back and extremely simple, but so comforting and encouraging. One of the most unapologetically enjoyable shows of Fall 2024.
