I watched the movie today, and it was a great watch. But it was rushed. Most of the match was montage. I'm not a manga reader, but after a quick search, I found out that the movie, which was 86 minutes long adapted 32 chapters. For reference, S4 Part 2 was roughly 4 hours and adapted 44 chapters. Honestly, I think they should've wrapped up the series with another 2-cour season instead of two movies.

Unlike the matches against Inarizaki or Shiratorizawa, which focused on multiple characters, this match mainly focused on Kenma and Hinata's rivalry. So I guess making it into a movie wasn't a bad idea. But I would've preferred another season. So, question for you all, especially manga readers: do you think the match felt rushed, and would another season have been a better choice?

But then we couldn't witness such high animation quality,, so I will not complain too much.

but if they try to adapt the remaining part in just 1 movie that'll surely be a disaster.

yeah, the animation and camera angles were great. It gave a dynamic feeling. However, the previous Haikyuu seasons were also great quality wise.

And apparently, they are finishing the series with one more movie.

yeah but some of the shots were really beautiful,,, but I agree some of the cut scenes were very good so it was disappointing

I know they're gonna finish with just one movie but it is near impossible to finish the whole thing with just one movie

it was so rushed, i mean they hardly showed the other players, totally focused on just hinata and kenma, which is not the case in the manga. i hope they adapt this in episode format.

I haven't read the manga but I also figured it out. They should have made a small season like how they did on S3.

I'm concerned man. Let's see what are they planning.

Making this match ~1 cour would have been preferable but the movie worked nicely too. I felt they arranged it quite well and if you didn't read the manga you probably wouldn't even notice much or anything was cut. I mean I didn't and I read the manga long ago.

This just feels like watching a recap, manga readers will find it enjoyable to watch but For those who haven't read it or won't read it, this is quite unfortunate.

Agreed. I enjoyed it but a season would've been better.

I felt like I was watching everything in 2x speed. I watched the anime so many times that I could easily notice how fast they did the flashbacks. Everything was happening so fast, the pacing felt really weird tbh. Last season we got mid to bad animation and normal pacing now we got peak animation but TikTok/YouTube Shorts Haikyu match. Really frustating but I guess we couldn't expect anything better considering how they chose to wrap the anime up. Would still prefer normal season with mid animation and normal pacing tho.

Yep they massacre lot dialogue monologue, I prefer average animation like previous season with full details dialogue monologue, than movie with fast pacing like this,
It just weird.

this is not a movie quality in the first place, the animation and the art are like that of a weekly show, which is really underwhelming ( except that Kenma pov scene). They should have stuck to seasons at least until the last match of the last arc

It lacked the adrenaline rush from the previous season. Ik I called it adrenaline rush but honestly I have no other words to describe the feeling of watching those peak Haikyuu moments where everything slows down before the decisive event. Like Tsukishima blocking Ushiwaka or Hinata’s final spike at the Oikawa, those moments.

would have been worse as a 25 episode season. coming from just an anime-only regarding this, it was perfect, didn't feel rushed in the slightest. I felt in the edge of my seat the entire time, from start to finish. I wouldn't have changed anything.
making it a 25 episode season would have ruined the pacing and killed all the tension of watching the match.
complaints about "oh they only focused on kenma and Hinata and kageyama and the other guy I never remember the name" but honestly, this was clearly set-up as a match mostly focused towards them so that's totally fine. would not have it any other way

@Romaysa kind of a high standard to not find a lot of the scenes movie quality ngl. the composition is clean and simple but the direction and animation prowess is movie quality.

lots of the stuff they did here was not even prevalent in all 4 seasons. they got a lot of the players moving with proper timing, sync and chaos, all looking close to physically real as possible.

@Plopop could be that im used to watching movies with better animation and better art, or because there were very well animated weekly shows like Frieren, so my standards are high currently

I don't think making this into episodes would have saved it tbh.

I didn't read the manga but wow, this match is.... not as good. There is 0 intensity, and obviously, it's not comparable to Shiratorizawa or the Twins matches.

I don't mind a bad match but what is puzzling me is all that praise this movie is receiving, are Haikyuu fans just gonna cheer up for whatever comes out without trying to be even slightly objective? lol
The movie is rushed, and even if it wasn't, there has been way too much focus on Hinata and Kenma, totally killing the potential of all other characters. And there is so little focus on the actual side of the match, tactics, and all.

Simply put, if we compare Kagyama/Tssuki/Azumane/Captain/Nishinoya to their selves from different matches, you'll notice how bad this movie is lol.

The animation was slightly better ... but it wasn't enough to save it, plus S1-3 Animation (from a different studio) is still far superior.

Very much .It would have been way better I just wished they weren't so geedy and actually made another season and given it a smooth finale. I love this series it my favorite and I don't want to have such a rushed ending just because of corporate greed

@-Sleek- oh, sorry for the misinformation. I was mostly referring to the very different art style/animation the anime had in the earlier seasons, it was much better imo.

episodes would be better in general, even if 12 episodes cours or something, the worst part about anime movies is that they are inaccessble for long time after they come out due to the heavily illogical/brutal copyright laws in japan

I think this was perfect. Of course they could have adapted it into a whole season's worth of story but I don't think it would have been as meaningful. Being able to see it in this shorter, one-sitting format made me want more by the end and I think it was meant to leave you with that feeling. Just as Karasuno & Nekoma have gone at it time and time again, they will continue to do so, making it a story that never truly ends. This adaptation served as a reminder that this battle may have passed but the rivalry is still as strong as ever.
