I got back into Durarara after I saw Roshidere last season. I really, really enjoyed Roshidere! And upon completing it, I realized that while I saw the first season of Durarara, I didn’t see the others, so would be an excellent excuse to see the rest of Durarara. And the main reason I got back into it is, of course, the Russian that’s spoken in it. And I know that a lot of people are down on the Russian in Roshidere, and I even saw some Russians, (in a thread about it I created) say as much as well. Though there were some other Russians that were saying that because of the fact it wasn’t designed for them, but rather the Japanese, they don’t mind it as much.

So that brings me to the question that is the title of this thread. Which series has better Russian, Durarara or Roshidere? I personally believe that it is Durarara, though I have not completed Durarara yet.

And also as a side question, which series depicts Russian culture better?

Roshidere does not even depict any cultural aspects of Russia lol it’s just a gimmick used by the author to justify not making any meaningful development between the characters cuz it’s played of as a “misunderstanding” as for Durarara don’t know what you’re talking about as I haven’t watched it.

the depiction of russian culture in roshidere is shallow or almost nonexistent . Durarara does a better job but not by much . The depitcion is better but still not that deep .

I haven't seen Durarara.
But Roshidere is not about russian culture, and they don't show any kind of Russian culture either.
It's just the main character is Russian, nothing else. And the writer of roshidere is not interested in showing Russian culture either, the reason why she is Russian is because according to writer Russian girls are beautiful.

Personally, first season is good, the rest really annoyed me in how they really changed the main characters, just for plot, which was not that good.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

Honestly when I first read this it got me thinking how shallow of a reason it was to make a character of mixed race like it could hv been anything but bro chose “culture” over reason lol

I mean, I know that neither anime goes into Russian culture deeply at all. That’s why it was really referred to as a side question, just something to consider on the side, considering in both animes, it was really a side feature.

And how about the Russian language itself? Like how well were the characters’ Russian?

from what I've heard originally roshidere was gonna be an isekai where the mc is reincarnated into a world where the female protagonist speaks Japanese to him thinking he doesn't understand (when he does) but they scrapped it cuz thye didn't wanna focus on worldbuilding lol

I feel like trying to incorporate isekai into everything has become the standard procedure for brainstorming ideas. It's literally become a genre of brainrot for me.

"OH I HAVE A GREAT IDEA!"
"But is it an isekai tho."
"No but-"
"Come up with something actually entertaining then."

This is my head canon now.

i dont think durarara and roshidere is comparable. roshidere is a goofy gimmick romance. durarara is a well thought out story with many deep characters

Not a native Russian.

Don't remember much in Durarara, pretty sure it does not go in depth into Russian culture. I like Simon though~

For Roshidere, it dees mention about Russian cuisine a few times, not a native Russian, so I cannot verify if they are accurate~

I have seen several romance titles with a Russian heroine. Only one of them goes in depth into Russian culture but that romance title is well ... horrible.

Because I rarely use MAL, I mainly use Discord to discuss LN/WN with other readers.
I don't really use MAL to discuss with other LN/WN readers because most readers here are Kadokawa elitists, readers who thinks that Kadakawa has the best titles and ignore all other non-Kadokawa titles. :/
MAL is also like my last source for LN news, I use lightnovel.jp for LN news.

Recently read my fourth Russian heroine romance title (Russian Girl Sitting Next To Me Is A Kisser), pretty sure it depicts Russian culture inaccurately, it is a horrible experience to read that romance title due to lack of character development.
Are Roshidere and Snow White the only Russian heroine romance titles worth reading?
Why did I put COTE Y2 on hold to read a poorly written romance title..... >_>

No idea. There might be more Russian heroine romance titles out there. Russian heroines are rare as compared to British or Scandinavian heroines.
As far as I remember, Roshidere and Snow White are the only Russian heroine romance titles worth reading~

Is Snow White > Roshidere?
@aurora_yuuki

Don't know. Despite both having Russian heroines, their approach is very different.
Roshidere has more gags while Snow White has more fluff~

Alya is half Russian but Himeno is quarter Russian~
Both girls are seductress. Himeno is much more agressive than Alya, but not Luthi's level~

Male lead wise, I prefer Masachika~

In terms of cover illustration, I like Roshidere more though~

The couple in Snow White also has better chemistry than the one in Roshidere.
Very hard to compare them as their approaches to the romance are very different~

I have not decided on a rating yet, I will place the 2 titles on the same tier.

As I mentioned, both of these romance titles are the only 2 Russian heroine titles I have read that are worth reading.
There are 2 other Russian heroine titles have poorly written character development~
