Hi all, I have a question since this is my introduction to the Ranma series.
Is the Remakes pacing really as bad as I've heard? I have heard that it is all over the place and a disservice.
I just want to know what is more accurate to the manga's pacing, the remake or original anime.

The og anime had is slower paced while the remake is faster. The manga is very long.

It's exactly as said above, I would say the remake also works for old fans and is also appealing to a new audience, but recommend you read the manga and make a comparison.

I am a remake only but the pacing is pretty good and from what I have seen pretty mormal for adaptation (2-3 chap to 1 episode)

The only bad thing about the remake is the music. Pacing is pretty much the same, but remake gives a little more of a spotlight to the romance.

No, people is used to the old anime that ONLY IN THE FIRST PART has a slower pacing (less than 2 chapter/episode) with some addition. After that, the pacing is pretty similar to the remake, sometimes even faster (a couple of episodes covered up to 7 chapters sometimes). For this cour 1, this remake has a standard approach of 3 weekly chapters/episode, 3 episode/1 tankobon. Aside from some minor scenes, nothing was skipped

The original anime was heavily padded and had a lot of overly extended scenes and filler anime only little segments in a number of arcs (only analyzing the current content, of course, the old anime actually rushes through content later on, while also having a lot of filler episodes otherwise).

The pacing here is the same as the manga and basically adapts it panel by panel. Quite literally perfect pacing, anyone complaining either hasn't read it, or just prefer the old anime taking its sweet time to go through anything. The old anime also tends to make things far more melodramatic in tone, so some scenes that were a bit more light-hearted in the manga and new anime kinda became super theatrical in the old anime (compare Akane's hair being cut in both anime and the manga, the old anime went as far as adding a bunch of flamingos dramatically flying out of nowhere lol).

It’s literally a “best of” adaptation. It’s not meant to be perfectly paced

I think the Remake tend to be a little too fast. Standard pacing for anime adaptation is between 3 and 4 episodes for on volume. Here, it's 2,5 episodes for a volume. it's a little faster than Dragon quest dai remake and almost same pacing than FMA brotherhood.

for an action serie it's a good pacing, but for comedy and romance...

Yeah, but they don't focus enough on some part.

In an adaptation, you need to focus more on important time, here,no. It's basically just the manga with less fanservice with no more.

And it's, I think, pretty boring because if I want just the manga, I just have to read it.

I also think the seiyuu aged too much. Kappei Yamaguchi and Megumi hayashibara performance feel forced for teenager in this version

I’m watching both the original and the remake currently. I loved the remake and wanted more so I’m watching the original.

Like most people have said, the original is very slow paced which works well with its SOL side of story. A lot of slower scenes have been cut.

The remake is doing a great job imo.

First of all, the pacing is much faster than in the original series seeing that the manga series is quite long since it was written to span the length of a long series like Inuyasha, and back in the 90's there were so few shows that long series were quite common. At the current pace the first season (which was just announced to be only one cour long) will adapt the first 4 out of 38 volumes, so if this show continues to be adapted at this pace, it will take 9-10 cours (about 110-125 episodes) to adapt to the end. Here's a breakdown on what chapters in the manga were adapted in each episode, as well as and episodes from the original series as reference.

1. Chapters 1-2, Ep. 1
2. Chapters 3-5, Ep. 2-3
3. Chapters 6-9, Ep. 4-6
4. Chapters 10-13, Ep. 7-8
5. Chapters 14-16, Ep. 9-10
6. Chapters 17-19, Ep. 11-12
7. Chapters 20-22, Ep. 12-13

From the look of things, we are looking at 12 episodes. For those who are completely new to this series, I have put the events that happened next as spoilers just in case.

Seeing that A-Rank Party is going to be two cours, I am thinking a second season will be coming this summer. After all, MAPPA is pretty notorious for biting off more than they can chew. Given the number of projects they are already committed to working on, and their apparent commitment for a more sustainable working environment that it makes sense they start out with a one-cour season.

That makes sense. They also cut nabiki’s “date”with kuno where she sells him the pictures of Ranma and Akane

@IAmVento Yup, for the same reason, they are adapting the manga 1:1. I think is pretty normal to have a modern approach and focus on the manga. Said that, they are going to skip some stories in the future IMO because I don't think MAPPA is going to make ~120 eps

They cut the racist Chinese charicature voice from the jusenkyo tour guide. I guess that wasn’t in the manga either

@IAmVento in Japanese (manga, og and remake) the Jusenkyo guide just talk bad in japanese since he's not from Japan, but there is nothing racist caricature. Same for Shampoo. If in the old anime you have seen some caricature, it was the english translation (or your country translation i guess, for example in italian Shampoo used "L" instead of "R" and she used to say "Lanma") but it was absent in japanese.

@GridironOtaku
actually, I tend to think that the adaptation will be 5 volume in 1 court of 13 episode, I don't see next arc last
