Does anyone have any possible ideas, why animation isn't better than s1. Like when series' first season does well then animation and everything suppose to get better and we all know how much big hit blue lock season 1 was.manga even became most sold manga of the year because of anime. So why animation didn't get better, like is studio working on other more important projects or something??

S1 animation wasn't amazing either, TBH.

It wouldn't surprise me too much if they brought out better animation for the U20's game, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

As the opening episode, ie, episode 1, it was bound to have an above average animation. I guess due to that, they couldn't give episode 2 more time. You can expect normal average animation in the 3rd episode.

different main staff that is more weaker look how many color red new word can be found here https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=2162365

same studio does not mean same main staff for an anime anyway

anime fans have this delusion that same studio means same quality always

8Bit only cares about money. As long as it's more profitable, they will put as little effort as they can into adapting anything.

Don't know but I'm so disappointed. Blue box being a rom com has better animation in the sports part.

@_Mentalist Learn more about the industry before saying this type of stuff. 8bit earns very little from this series and most others they make compared to other companies on the committee, the ones that actually fund the project.

This is entirely fault of said committee, specially Bandai and Kodansha, for constantly shoving projects on them and with no breaks.

S1 is also have a bad animation if you noticed. Just not memorable as season 2 bcs season 2 is straight out PNG slide animation.

Cuz is adapted by 8bit, which is known for its low budget production .
I dropped S1 too cuz i find the production pretty lacking for a sport anime. (as a fan of manga reader)
If this is adapted by Production IG it'd have been perfect.
Also Slime too. I think the 2nd half of Slime S1 has bad animation/ pacing/ plot progression/ fight sequence too so i dropped it as well.
Heck, look at Ao no Hako this season. That series is not even known for its sport and it has better / more fluid animation in sport action.

S1 wasn't amazing, but there is definitely a decline, and with the popularity of Blue Lock it is a little hard to stomach. They should be investing even more in this season and we could be getting a gorgeous looking anime. There's no reason why Blue Lock doesn't deserve that kind of high quality production.
But I guess it's doing better than Ao Ashi, which we still don't know if it will even get a S2.

Maybe they just feel like why not, because they can, people were happy and didn't complain much with the corners cut in S1..so they went even further with them thinking their fanbase won't mind and they maximise their profits by spending less on production but hoping it will still sell similar numbers. That's all speculation anyway tho, but I do feel like this drop in quality is gonna effect the performance of this season unfortunately :((

@JVskunkape Usually it doesn't matter how popular a series is.
The director/ staff/ studio/ numbers of animators determine the quality of final product.
There're so many popular / fantastic series that got butchered by the wrong director/ studio.

It's a matter of time and luck at this point since there's just limited amount of good studio out there , and their schedule are usually super loaded too.
Not every studio is Mappa/ Bones/UFO/ White Fox/ Production IG/ A1 Picture/ Clover Work/ Wit Studio.
Also not every anime get handed to amazing director like Frieren's director.

@Ventus_S fair points, maybe studios that could've done Blue Lock more justice schedules were too stacked as you say.

But wasn't it the same studio for S1? So it could at least be as good if not slightly better? If it's not and they changed studio for S2 I admittedly must've missed that.

@JVskunkape Tbh I dropped S1 already cuz of mediocre production/direction from 8bit from get go lolz.
So idk, I think 8bit just doesn't invest too much for this series, or they don't have director/ staffs good at handling sport anime.
I mean from my experience, 8bit is known for its cut-corner and low budget production so it doesn't surprise me Blue Lock s2 ends up like that.

Blue Lock in particular is the toughest type of sport anime to adapt cuz it emphasize almost exclusively on the matches , and way too many monologues / character inner thought in the heat of matches, so if the director is incompetent in adding the "in-between animation" (usually anime original) and only faithfully adapting the manga frame by frame, it'd turn out into a manga slideshow like we see now.

PS: Even though i dropped S1, out of curiosity, i watched s2 ep 2 to see how bad it really is, and yeah, it's pretty awful XD. I've seen worse animation from sport anime before, but this is Blue Lock we talking about, and like you said, deserve better.

@Ventus_S yeah I hear what you're saying. Maybe it should be expected if they're known for that as a studio. But they really could've built a better reputation by trying to do their best possible job on S2 following the success of S1. Instead it feels like they phoned it in and cut even more corners, so maybe they will always be known as makers of corner cutting cheap productions. If it could've matched S1 and at least looked as good as that maybe they could've coasted on that. But there's no excuse for it looking even worse than S1, now that they should have even more to invest in it.

I'm Guessing They Were Working On Both The Movie And This Little Arc Before The Game Simultaneously, And Then Put All Their Effort Into The U-20 Game When The Movie Came Out 🤔

How ignorant .
Most of the animators/ staffs dont get paid more even if they make a hyper popular/ well produced anime masterpiece.
And yes, they dont get paid less even if they make a pile of shit.
So a good anime production really come from animators' own good will, dedication, and effort .

I don't think they ever had the funds for this season, it really pissed me off, because I went back and watched the second episode of the first season and compared it to the current episodes and holy shit. you wouldn't even believe it was the same studio. it's even more frustrating because this upcoming U-20 is not only important in the show it's also the best match in the manga up to this point so they really can't blow this. however, the good news is that the Rin and Sai flashback teased in the first episode of season two occurs during the U-20 match and that was better animation then was it looks like right now. I'm praying that they don't mess this up. but even so I don't have high hopes,

1) many sequels have worse animation (why put effort, when fans of the first season will watch anyway?)
2) football is by far the hardest sport to animate in 2D. Don't expect a well animated football anime until someone decides to make it full 3DCG, like for example The First Slam Dunk.

1. lol, so it's somehow okay for any show with second season to have bad animations? Man, people nowadays really have no standards or whatsoever.

2. Giant Killing or even Inazuma Eleven got much better animation compared to this garbage, so there's literally no excuse for this anime to be this bad, unless the studio behind it is incompetent.

1) You got me wrong, I'm not trying to defend Blue Lock. What I meant is that OP shouldn't be so surprised to see a sequel having worse animation than the first season since it's a fairly common occurence, whether we like it or not.

2) Giant Killing does have better animation but it still heavily relies on close-ups and still frames, since animating twenty players constantly running around the field is basically impossible. Football just doesn't work well with the limited animation made in Japan, unlike other sports such as baseball and golf in which players stand still for most of the time.
