So I'm confused as to how I should start. Initially, I thought about starting with Episode 0. MAL lists Episode 0 as prequel to the ONA, but the other users have been suggesting to watch the ONA first and then Episode 0, because the events of the said episode takes place much later in the main storyline. There is also a movie, which I'm also confused as to whether it is a recap or if it is an abridged version of the ONA.

Thoughts?

Watch episode 0 between episodes 16 and 17.

I watched only the series, episodes 1-16 first, then 0, then 17. Worked great for me. I don't know how in the heck it would make sense to do otherwise.

Also I think the movies are just an alternative adaptation.

The 2 movies are the same as the show minus some small scenes I'm told since they add up to a shorter run time. They were released first and the show only started airing on the day of the release of movie 2 so you can choose whichever version you'd prefer.

Episode 0 takes place between episode 16 and 17 of the show, which is why it's a little confusing. It's like when a movie shows you something near the end and then starts from the beginning to show you how you got there.

I watched episode 0 first and I don't think it really matters which way you do it. I'd recommend it if you like the above mentioned story structure, or you want something that leaves you with specific questions you'll slowly have answered as you watch. Some say it spoils some things for the story and while I can agree to an extent, I also don't think it was that big of a deal in the end. It also has a different pace/tone than most of the show so don't expect it to be the same when you start episode 1. My main downside to watching 0 first was keeping track of what happens when, since episode 0 is in the future, there's a current timeline, and then there's flashbacks throughout the show.

@wizdom224 Alright, thanks for sharing your thoughts. So they shoehorned all the content from the ONA episodes into two 2hr movies. Great.

@WestOnAndrewAve So they really are an abridged version of the ONA. Guess I'll watch all of them. Thanks for answering.
