He is 13 and she is 10 so age is not the problem here.

The problem is CONSENT. Its basically sexual assault.
There would be no problem with this if they kiss when she is awake...

Also can we talk about how unnecessary the kiss even was? Just pour down from the glass to her mouth πŸ˜’

So in your ridiculous view, the princess in sleeping beauty would never get woken. Great logic. Modern woke principles are getting out of control.

This is a bad take, because it is also true for couples. You cannot consent because you are asleep, but you would likely consent if you are awake.
So if it's not an assault in one of these cases, then it isn't in the other one either.

You really can’t see it? A sleeping girl can only be woken with a kiss, but in 2024 it has to be consensual so tough shit girlie you’re staying in dreamland!
In this a sick girl needs medicine, a guy only 3 years older than her delivers it by mouth because she can’t drink it herself when unconscious. Yes, even I see it as a bit creepy, but in this anime it’s used to move a possible future romance forward. You guys need to stop looking so hard for ethical problems in fiction, it’s ridiculous!

So? Even if 2 people are a couple, they do not necessarily consent to everything, so it doesn't matter if they are a couple or not.

I'm just saying that based on your logic, you cannot do anything to your partner while they are asleep, because they did not consent.

Well, I’ve been married longer than you’ve been alive and honestly if every time we wanted to do something intimate we needed to ask first, our lives would be dull as fuck. The best way to wake up is with your partner kissing you or better still doing something erotic to you. Permission for every single act would be the best way to kill a healthy relationship.

I’m finding the modern movement towards finding EVERYTHING offensive to be quite amusing, it’s definitely a better method of population control than contraception. If I remember right if someone can't drink medicine or liquid on their own. You don't want to feed it to them from cup to mouth. They won't drink it or you will just drown them. You have to force it down their throat instead. Still I'll admit that scene was still ridiculous.

Cool, so you think the wife gave her consent to this (and to everything else), because they were married: https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/sep/02/man-accused-of-enlisting-strangers-to-drugged-wife-goes-on-trial-in-france

Next time you’re near a sleeping person, try pouring liquid into their mouth, it’ll be educational for you! They won’t swallow, it will go into their lungs because the larynx is set that way for breathing. Good murder technique tho…
Also not saying spitting it in there is better, probably will also cause choking. But in case you still haven’t figured, this is an anime not a documentary. Your moral judgement is pointless.

if they spent more time on the scene and decided it was a serious sickness and the medicine had to delivered immediately without any other way, sure it could work.

At the end of the episode, out of nowhere, before trying to really wake her up; does not work.

Its a 5 year age gap. Story starts with Alicia being ~7 and Duke ~12. As of this episode they are currently Alicia at 10 and Duke at 15/16, it gets worse when you realize the Duke will be 17/18 years old in love with and yearning after a 12 year old. He's the same age as her brothers and the other sons of the major families, who are in school and are age 15, hes not 13.

@FutoiOtaku To be fair, this is also stupid, but this is the other end of the same stupid take. During those centuries, it would have been unlikely that you could have married your spouse, because they decided based on social standing and not based on love or emotions.

So the Gen Z (which does not mean "zero") concept is much more humane than those hundred years old traditions. For example, it was also perfectly normal if you murdered your neighbor in a duel, do you want to implement that tradition as well, because humanity survived?

About the kiss, I do agree it's unnecessary. Honestly, it made me laugh because of how ridiculous it is, but I don't see the problem with it? Especially it being wrong because of "consent". It's fiction. This has been happening in fiction wayyy too long before this. Case in point: Romeo and Juliet and all those Disney shows you probably have seen before.

You're watching fiction, arguing about these topics using common sense in real life isn't gonna work, and not to mention a waste of time.

@Aumachi why even talk about established couple's consent in the same discussion with *practically* 2 strangers consent. this is not what we're talking about. Its irrelevant how 2 people in an already established relationship would should or could behave anyway...

He's 15.

You should not give someone unconscious oral medication as there is a risk of aspiration/choking. In this time period however I can see it being common practice.

It was obviously used as an excuse for Duke to steal a kiss. I also don't care because a) it's a fantasy shoujo set in the renaissance and b) it was cute. The real issue is there were no developments between them at all before this and Duke is plain af.

Can't deny life would be much more interesting if duels (and the deaths thereby) were still upheld as fair and legal tradition. Same with trial by combat.

@Kitsune_089

Because of the shape of the cup, it's straight all around, with thin edge or tiny downward curve at the top. The medicine would need to be carefully poured into to her mouth to avoid choking. Yet, trying to do it with the type of cup being using would result in much of the medicine flowing not into her mouth, but flowing down the side of cup and onto her lap or chest. The medicine wouldn't fall straight into her mouth until the cup was at least near a completely horizontal angle, and by then about half the medicine would have spilt onto the bed. If the the "kiss" was something romantic or sexual, then yes it would be disturbing. However, from what I can see of the scene the "kiss" is equivalent to mouth to mouth CPR just with the purpose of giving someone medication.
