It's one of those openings that I initially feel are meh but get better the more I watch them.
Here are some possible references I spotted:
—It starts with a cymbal just like the OG.
—Then, when when the scrolls with faces come in, one of Akane's faces (the second scroll to come in if anyone reading this has never watched or read it before) is the same one she has while dancing at 0:43 of OG.
—At 0:47 they do the same dance as 0:12 of OG.
—At 1:26 they make the same pose that they do at the end of the OG opening (it's also a common pose in fiction, but let me dream).

Apparently this is unpopular, and maybe this is a different take because I never watched the OG series in full (and didnt with Urusei yatsura either), I love this opening. The classic opening is always top-tier, but this opening really gives me Urusei Yatsura remake vibes, and I am 100% here for it

@Rammelbips Agreed, the visuals are decent but the new song sucks. They included a gong for nostalgia bait, but after that the song is just generic jpop that could be from anywhere else, there's nothing interesting or unique about the song.

Why people say the original is better? I mean, I didn't grow up watching this anime, so maybe it's nostalgia talking. So, between the new one and the yapapa thing I prefer the new one.

This OP reminds me of the first one for the first adaptation, I think they clearly decided to pay hommage to it and I'm here for it!

Little Date, the second OP, is one of my favorite ever, I hope they'll reference it too, next!
