I don’t think those are priestess’ clothes, if that’s what you are thinking
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

Bruh he's literally 9 years old, of course he doesn't look like the pinnacle of masculinity.

Nah, he's feminine looking, but most children are at least slightly femme. Probably because we traditionally associate feminine look with pureness and innocence, which is something that is also associated with children.

it seems like you don't know almost all the characters look like boys in other anime's even if they are 9 year's old, they only look feminine or like a girl when the author wanted them to look more cute and it's intensional .

it's also a historical thing. I forget where in the manga it says it but iirc it was a sort of rite of passage or showing of an age/maturity milestone. Apparently it was a thing nobles did in that time period. at least the manga makes it out to be iirc.

Androgynous feminine boys are a particularly popular Japanese archetype for some reason I don't understand.

There is no gender bender because Tokiyuki's sex is not changed by any means during the story. Fact is Tokiyuki's character design is androgynous -- he obviously is a male, but as cute as Shizuku...

@RobertBobert You guys need to stop spreading lies so naturally. There’s nothing that supports this view, neither statistically nor culturally, nothing at all. Even looking at all the anime released every year, it doesn't seem real, at least you can't say it's "popular".

@Artur_Moreira Boy, I've watched a thousand times more anime than you, so trust me, never be so judgmental about things you don't have enough knowledge. For example, read about Momiji https://myanimelist.net/character/367/Momiji_Souma

@deg Bishonens are more or less teenagers, MC is closer to shota in terms of labels. He's not even 10 years old.

@deg Yes, also pointing out the forty-year-old Gackt as an example of bishonen. Not to mention the references to unknown dudes who think the term is "queer" due to the androgynous nature of the term. The phrase about 18 years has no source, by the way. In general, article is quite chaotic and far from the current reality, which, by the way, was written about on the discussion page back in 2015. Again, the protagonist is too young to use such terms to describe him.

@deg Shonen is aimed at male teens between 13 and 18 years old. A lower threshold already marks the "kodomo" audience. Remember the old loli manga "kodomo jikan", which is about an elementary school teacher. The characters' ages are mentioned in episode 11.

@RobertBobert Shōnen manga refers to manga aimed at an audience of adolescent boys, with the primary target audience alternately defined as 9 to 18 years old and as 12 to 18 years old https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sh%C5%8Dnen_manga

@deg "alternatively defined" - yeah. Even your quote mentions my definition. Have you ever wondered why in many classic battle shonen like Naruto starting age of characters is often 12-13? Because this is the lower threshold of adolescence. An article in Japanese Wikipedia also sets the threshold at 12-13 years old, that is, upper elementary school. https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%B0%91%E5%B9%B4%E6%BC%AB%E7%94%BB
